Chapter 80

In front of her, a creature appeared with thick limbs, resembling a salamander overall, but its body was covered with scales similar to those of a fish. Its slightly open mouth revealed a large number of sharp teeth inside.
'Reptile'?
This word popped up in Lin's mind. How could this name be so uninteresting? There are so many creatures that can crawl, why is only this one called a reptile?
Although this reptile looked very fierce, its size disappointed Lin. It was only about thirty centimeters long, including its tail, which was almost as long as its body.
The reptile did not approach the water hole; it just stood far away, watching Leviathan. Lin only slightly moved her tentacles, and it instantly turned and fled.
Want to run?
Lin had no intention of only attacking large creatures; she would not let the small ones off either. She would kill at least one of each type of creature here to establish her dominance.
Leviathan released a type of soldier, also about thirty centimeters long. This was an experimental soldier. Instead of the water-jetting system used in water, Lin equipped it with a multi-directional jet system. It could inhale a large amount of air through its head, compress it with muscles inside its body, and then release the compressed air through jet ports. It also had six segmented limbs to assist in running.
Lin had done a lot of calculations for this system and believed she had made it quite perfect.
However, whether it could run fast or not was unknown.
This was the new charger, similar to the previous one, with a long, barbed horn on its head to pierce through opponents.
Lin placed the charger on the ground, and its system instantly activated, charging forward!
It was quite fast.
Lin focused on the charger's field of vision. The surrounding spires were rapidly receding. The reptile that had fled earlier was now in front of the charger.
The reptile looked back and accelerated, running with its limbs. However, Lin's charger still followed closely, closing the distance with its jet system. Lin did not think the reptile's scales could withstand the charger's horn. As soon as it caught up, it could easily pierce through the reptile.
The charger's speed increased, and Lin felt it was almost like it was rushing through water. Just as it was about to reach its target, the reptile suddenly swung its tail and ran to the left, entering the gap between two spires.
Lin immediately turned the charger to the left, closed the jet port at the tail, and opened the jet port on the right side to stop the forward momentum. After successfully turning, she reopened the tail jet port and continued chasing the reptile.
The distance was slightly increased, but this turning method had already minimized the extra distance due to the high speed. However, it was still less flexible than running on legs.
However, this slight distance was almost negligible, and the charger quickly caught up to the fleeing reptile again.
In the chase through the forest, the reptile turned several more times, but the charger's turning actions became smoother each time. Lin could even predict when the reptile would turn.
Finally, the reptile turned into a dead end. In front of it were three tightly packed spires, and behind it was the rapidly approaching charger...
The reptile had no time to react. The charger's horn pierced through its back scales, and the tip of the horn emerged from the reptile's chest.
The reptile no longer struggled, but the charger itself had no ability to feed, so Leviathan had to walk to the kill site.
This felt a bit off. Although this time the reptile only wandered around and did not run too far, if it had run too far, the hard-earned prey might have been taken away.
The charger needed to be equipped with a structure for digesting food.
Leviathan walked to the kill site and released a collector to disassemble the reptile.
The organs of the reptile were similar to those of a salamander. This creature was probably evolved from a salamander. It used harder scales to prevent water loss from its skin. However, it had a new and interesting organ inside, like a lung, with some tubes connected to small holes in its head, which could contract to absorb oxygen.
This seemed to be called a 'lung'.
Lin's air sac also had the ability to contract, but it was not as complex. The inside of the 'lung' had many net-like structures, and it was unknown what their function was.
This organ was suitable for absorbing a large amount of oxygen, but since there was already plenty of oxygen, it did not seem very useful.
After eating the reptile, Lin recovered the charger and the collector and continued walking in a random direction.
What kind of creature would she encounter next? No matter what, even if it was the previous worm, Lin was prepared for battle. However, whether she would win or not would only be known after the actual fight.
Leviathan strolled through the spire forest, where the temperature was usually cool. However, Lin suddenly felt a wave of heat, accompanied by a current of air that raised the temperature around her.
Could the ocean's warming have affected this place? ... No, this heat wave came from the opposite direction of the ocean.
Leviathan quickly walked in the direction of the heat wave. After passing through a row of spires, Lin arrived at a vast area.
Within Lin's field of vision was an endless expanse of yellow sand. Here, it was like the land from a hundred million years ago... no water, no creatures, only sand grains dancing in the wind and an endless desert...
From this, it seemed that the spire forest was not very large, and plants had not extended further inland. Perhaps the mist could not drift too far or for some other reason.
Lin looked back, and the row of spires seemed like a giant wall dividing the desert and the spire forest. This made Lin suspect again that these spires might not be ordinary rocks.
Lin felt a bit disappointed. She had originally thought she would see a land teeming with life, but instead, she saw the scene from a hundred million years ago...
Just as Leviathan was about to turn and leave, a voice suddenly entered Lin's mind.
The eye tentacles looked in the direction of the voice. Above the spire forest, two creatures suddenly flew over, heading towards the desert at an extremely fast speed.
Flying creatures!
Lin immediately released the charger. Although Leviathan's speed could not catch up to these creatures, the charger clearly could. It followed the two creatures at an extremely fast speed, while Leviathan followed behind at a slower pace.
To see the environment clearly while moving at high speed, the charger's eyes were specially modified to capture a large number of images instantly. It could clearly see the shape of the two creatures in the air.
These two creatures had slender bodies, over a meter long, with a thick chest and three pairs of segmented limbs. Their heads had large eyes, and the most noticeable feature was the four transparent, flat, and elongated structures on both sides of their bodies. They seemed to use these to fly, which was different from jellyfish.
These creatures were called 'giant dragonflies,' which seemed like a pretty cool name, much better than 'reptile.'
The charger followed the dragonflies while studying their structure. Lin already had the idea of creating her own, so she did not necessarily need to catch them.
Lin was also very interested in seeing where they would fly to. Did these creatures always live in the air, or would they land on the ground? Marine creatures had many species that never approached the seabed.
The charger followed the giant dragonflies across the desert. After crossing a sand dune, Lin saw their target.
That is...
At the bottom of the sand dune, there was a large sand pit where a considerable number of dragonflies had gathered. In the center of the sand pit, there was a large creature.
This creature looked somewhat like a Brontoscorpio, with pincers for front limbs and eight segmented legs, but its body was massive, over three meters long, and its tail did not have a curved hook. Its armor seemed to have been damaged by something, with cracks all over it. The giant dragonflies were flying around it, occasionally diving to attack the cracks in its armor and eating the blood that flowed out.
Lin temporarily called it a 'desert scorpion.' The desert scorpion waved its pincers but could not catch the extremely fast dragonflies. If this continued, it would surely die.
