Chapter 9

4 min read900 words

Old 15.16.

The man in the white coat, Githos, was surprisingly kind, contrary to my first impression. I had imagined he would be more aloof, given his typical researcher demeanor.

Perhaps the effect of being "Navi's favorite" had something to do with it.

I should be grateful to Navi.

With that thought, I arrived in front of the archive room.

Suddenly, a window popped up.

≪Do you want to use the archive room? YES/NO≫

A confirmation window here? I don’t really understand the criteria. Of course, it’s YES.

≪You used the archive room of the Comprehensive Guild without accepting any quests. You have obtained the title "Well-Prepared"≫

Can titles really be obtained so easily?

Despite my doubts, I entered the archive room.

The scene that greeted me left my mouth agape.

The room wasn’t very large. There was a table in the center, surrounded by bookshelves.

That was fine, but what was with the mountain of books on the table?

Even though the use was free, could they really leave so many books scattered around like this?

Despite the clear labels on the shelves, many books were left on the table.

As a book lover, I couldn’t ignore this state.

It seemed there were no other users besides me.

Then, there was only one thing to do.

・

・

・

“Phew”

How much time had passed? I finally placed the last book on the shelf and let out a sigh.

I started organizing the books. Books with titles on the cover were easy, but some didn’t have titles. It seemed that some were just collections of personal notes.

-

Therefore, I had to check the contents of some books, which took more time than expected.

However, the content was very informative. Indeed, the firsthand accounts of those who had experienced it firsthand contained a lot of information that wasn’t in the compiled materials. I felt that organizing them was worth it.

Actually, while checking the contents, an announcement came.

≪You have reached a certain level of proficiency and have acquired the skill "Monster Knowledge"≫

≪Experience points have been added to the Tamer and Librarian professions≫

≪The level of the Librarian profession has increased≫

So, even though I hadn’t read much, I had acquired a skill and leveled up as a Librarian.

A new SP display appeared. It’s probably the status points I can adjust myself.

It seems that when a profession level increases, half of the 10 SP is allocated to the corresponding status.

I don’t know about other professions.

Also, even though my Librarian level increased, the "Reading" skill level didn’t.

It seems that organizing books is considered a librarian-like activity, but it’s not related to reading.

Let’s check the new skills and titles.

First, the titles.

"Well-Prepared" A title given to those who understand the importance of preparation.

Effect: Increases proficiency in unlearned knowledge skills (small)

This title is incredibly helpful for me.

While checking this title, I noticed another title had changed.

"Indication of Talent" A title given to those who acquire skills and arts during the tutorial.

Effect: You can identify the skill you are closest to acquiring among unlearned skills. The skill you are currently closest to acquiring is "Information."

It’s a bit vague, but indeed, besides reading monster-related books, the only thing I did was organize the archive room, so it must have been judged as organizing information.

Next, the skill.

"Monster Knowledge LV1" Passive Skill

- Provides adjustments to actions against monsters based on the skill level.

I managed to acquire the skill I aimed for in one go.

Since it provides adjustments to actions against monsters, it will naturally provide adjustments to taming as well.

There were various adjustments, but I was able to acquire it faster than expected.

It’s probably thanks to the new title "Well-Prepared," which is doing a great job.

However, despite being so involved with books, the "Reading" skill didn’t level up.

It seems that a significant amount of proficiency is required for skill level-ups.

Is it easy to learn but hard to master?

While I was thinking about this, a sudden alarm sound, "beep, beep, beep," rang out.

It was an alarm indicating that nearly three hours had passed in the real world.

This game progresses at one-third the speed of the real world, but for health reasons, you are forcibly logged out after three hours in the real world. Therefore, an alarm warns you about 30 minutes before that.

And you can’t log back in for an hour after logging out.

……It seems I spent over five hours in the archive room. I didn’t expect to spend my first day just listening to an NPC’s complaints and organizing the archive room. However, I did manage to read some books and feel closer to my goal, so personally, it was very meaningful.

I opened the menu and selected logout.

≪Do you want to log out? YES/NO≫

I pressed YES.
