In front of the emergency room, Wang Xing hurried over with his clothes, but he couldn't find Liu Handong and Shu Fan. He was so anxious that he beat his chest and stomped his feet. That was a ten-thousand-yuan commission fee, which was crucial for his mortgage and baby formula. Losing a wallet, a phone, or even face was acceptable, but he couldn't afford to lose Shu Fan.
Quickly walking into the emergency room, he caught a glimpse of Shu Fan at the end of the corridor. Wang Xing rushed over and saw Shu Fan pointing at a motorcycle that was speeding away, her eyes streaming with tears.
"Come with me," Wang Xing tried to pull Shu Fan, but she shook him off. The little girl actually chased after the motorcycle.
"Miss Shu, I'll take you to chase him," Wang Xing's words were effective. Shu Fan immediately returned and urged Wang Xing to start the car.
As they passed through the corridor, Wang Xing heard a scream. He peeked in and saw a nurse in the observation room drop a tray, causing chaos on the bed. There were bloody bandages, various tubes and wires, and a man with a hole in his face lying unconscious.
Wang Xing recognized this man as Gu Changjun's henchman, Dogzi, a thug who had become a project manager for the Shifeng Group's demolition company, essentially a high-level enforcer. Liu Handong's sudden departure was likely related to him.
Back in the Jetta, the walkie-talkie crackled with the police dispatcher's voice, saying that if Liu Handong couldn't be persuaded to stop, he could be shot dead.
Wang Xing quickly picked up his phone and dialed a friend in the criminal investigation team.
"Old Wan, it's Wang Xing. I have some information for you. Liu Handong is not the killer; he is also a victim. The real culprit is Gu Changjun from the Shifeng Group." Wang Xing wasn't just guessing; Gu Changjun was a former police officer who was expelled for involvement in organized crime and later hired by the Shifeng Group as a security chief, but in reality, he did all the dirty work.
On the phone, Old Wan replied, "The higher-ups have given a strict order, and I can't change it. Where are you now? I'll come over immediately. How is Ma Guoqing at Huahuo Institute?"
"Old Ma is fine; he's in the operating room. I'm at the Medical University Affiliated Hospital," Wang Xing said and hung up.
Shu Fan pushed the car door and was about to leave. Wang Xing grabbed her, "Where are you going? It's dangerous outside."
"Are you not planning to save him?" Shu Fan looked straight into Wang Xing's eyes, her clear gaze piercing deep into his soul.
Wang Xing tried to defend himself, "He's not in danger; the police just think he's a suspect."
"How much did Aunt An pay you?" Xia Fan continued to stare at Wang Xing.
"Ten thousand yuan," Wang Xing answered.
"After I turn eighteen, I can own shares in Qingshi High-Tech. I'll give you one million to save him."
Although Shu Fan was only fourteen, she was mentally mature. Moreover, girls are often more straightforward than adults. As a wealthy heiress, getting one million yuan wasn't difficult. One million yuan could pay off his mortgage and buy a good car.
Wang Xing was torn.
...
The Yamaha motorcycle sped down the road, splashing water. Ma Ling lifted her helmet and shouted, "Where are we going?"
"To the Shifeng Group," Liu Handong replied. He believed that Gu Changjun wouldn't go home but would hide in the company or some secret location. Going to the company would definitely reveal some clues.
Ma Ling suddenly accelerated, and the motorcycle sped through two blocks, stopping in front of a small clothing store.
"What are we doing?" Liu Handong asked.
"Changing clothes," Ma Ling answered briefly, placing her helmet on the handlebars and walking into the store.
A fiery young woman in her twenties was sitting on a recliner, cracking sunflower seeds. Seeing Ma Ling, she asked, "Sister Ling, what brings you here?"
"Get me an outfit, and one for him," Ma Ling said, pointing at Liu Handong.
When Liu Handong was arrested by Ma Guoqing, he had just taken off his soaked T-shirt and was still bare-chested, with well-defined muscles and a clear six-pack. The fiery woman whistled, "Is he your man?"
"Cut the crap, hurry up. We have something urgent to do," Ma Ling said impatiently. She had come out in a hurry, wearing a long T-shirt and hot pants with flip-flops, which were not suitable for a fight.
The fiery woman quickly threw a few pieces of clothing over, "The sizes are perfect. There's a changing room over there."
Ma Ling went into the changing room, and Liu Handong put on a T-shirt. As he turned, the 54 pistol tucked in his waistband caught the fiery woman's eye. She asked, "Are you a cop?"
Liu Handong didn't answer. The gun belonged to Ma Guoqing, with a green strap on the handle, but there was only one bullet left in the chamber.
Ma Ling came out of the changing room, instantly transforming from a home girl to a biker, wearing a leather jacket, jeans, and heavy motorcycle boots, with a steel necklace around her neck.
"Got any weapons?" Ma Ling asked.
"Going to fight? Sure!" The fiery woman pulled out a spiked club from behind the door. It was a security weapon, a stainless steel rod with a few spikes, more for intimidation than actual use.
"Use this," Liu Handong picked up a baseball bat from the shelf. It was a decorative item but more effective for hitting people than the spiked club.
Ma Ling swung it a couple of times and nodded.
"Change your shoes, handsome," the fiery woman handed over a pair of size 43 Oakley desert boots.
Liu Handong thanked her, took off his muddy sneakers, and put on the boots. Ma Ling was already starting the motorcycle, so he quickly got on the back.
"See you, Sister Ling, handsome," the fiery woman waved as the motorcycle sped away.
On the evening streets, the motorcycle roared through the city. Although motorcycles were banned in the city, the police often ignored high-performance motorcycles because their riders were usually wealthy and influential, and it wasn't worth the trouble to chase them.
The city was under construction, and a heavy rain had caused traffic congestion. However, Ma Ling's off-road motorcycle was unaffected, weaving through the slow-moving traffic, speeding up, and even driving on the sidewalk or through muddy construction sites, quickly reaching the Shifeng Group's headquarters in the northern suburbs.
The Shifeng Group was a powerful company with an industrial park in the northern suburbs. It was already 8 PM, but the building was still brightly lit. The electric gate was closed, leaving only a small entrance for pedestrians, with two uniformed security guards on duty.
"How do we get in?" Ma Ling asked, stopping the motorcycle twenty meters from the gate, the engine still roaring.
"Go straight in," Liu Handong said.
Ma Ling revved the engine and approached the gate, braking just before it, blocking the electric gate.
Liu Handong got off and walked to the guardhouse, knocking on the window. The guard asked, "Who are you looking for?"
"I'm looking for Gu Changjun; he owes me money," Liu Handong lied, as he wasn't sure if Gu Changjun was in the company.
"Wait a moment, I'll call him," the guard picked up the internal phone and dialed an extension. Liu Handong noticed the number was 815, which was likely the room number.
The call was answered, and the guard whispered a few words, then asked, "What's your name?"
Liu Handong raised his eyebrows and said, "We risked our lives for him, and he still owes us. Tell him to pay up, or I'll expose everything."
The guard lowered his head and made another call, then said, "You can go in. Minister Gu is in 303, on the third floor, second room on the left."
The electric gate slowly opened, and Liu Handong got back on the motorcycle. The Yamaha drove into the park.
A hidden camera near the gate flashed.
...
Gu Changjun had already seen the surveillance footage of the entrance on his office computer. The person trying to sneak in was his hated enemy, Liu Handong, who had brought a companion. Today, he had brought eight professional killers to eliminate the target, and the bad weather had been a perfect cover. However, the mission failed, and the so-called "professional killers" turned out to be amateurs.
Since taking on this job, nothing had gone smoothly. The scapegoat turned out to be a fierce tiger, not only killing his own brother but also leaving his brother's face impaled on a steel bar. Gu Changjun hated Liu Handong to the bone. Killing Shu Fan was a regular business, but killing Liu Handong was personal.
After the mission failed, he was planning to go into hiding, but Liu Handong showed up. Gu Changjun decided to kill him before leaving.
He picked up the phone, "Qiangzi, bring five men to 303. Two people will come to cause trouble. Take care of them."
"Brother Jun, dead or alive?"
"Dead, and bury them in concrete."
...
The motorcycle drove into the park, and Liu Handong suddenly patted Ma Ling's shoulder, signaling to stop. Ma Ling stopped and turned to ask, "What's up?"
"We've been tricked; Gu Jun has seen through us," Liu Handong said. He felt it was too easy to get in, and with Gu Jun's experience as a former police officer, he wouldn't be so easily fooled.
"What do we do now?" Ma Ling asked.
"Improvise. Paratroopers are trained to be surrounded," Liu Handong said confidently.
"You were a paratrooper? Special forces?" Ma Ling's eyes sparkled with admiration.
"I was a truck driver in the transportation company," Liu Handong said.
"Oh, what do we do now?"
"Go to the underground garage," Liu Handong said. The park was brightly lit with cameras everywhere, making it impossible to enter the building stealthily. It was better to go in openly.
The motorcycle drove into the underground parking lot, and this scene was seen by Gu Changjun on the surveillance monitor. He was puzzled; there was plenty of space to park in front of the building, but these two had driven into the underground garage. What were they planning?
In the underground garage, a uniformed security guard approached the motorcycle and asked what they were doing. Liu Handong asked, "Is the electrical room here?"
"Yes, what do you need?" the guard asked suspiciously.
"Sorry," Liu Handong said.
The guard was confused.
Ma Ling struck from behind with a karate chop, and the guard collapsed. Liu Handong took the guard's long flashlight and walkie-talkie and quickly walked to the electrical room, pulling all the circuit breakers without hesitation.
The Shifeng building plunged into darkness, and emergency lights came on.
"Go upstairs, Gu Changjun is in 815," Liu Handong said.
"How do you know? Have you been here before?" Ma Ling was surprised.
"Use this," Liu Handong pointed to his head.
