Chapter 10

Due to Chen Mo entering the stage of body cultivation, both his body and mind were strengthened. Therefore, what used to take over six hours to deliver, he completed in just four hours. Of course, he did not count the time for lunch. However, today he did not have lunch either, as the midday meal was simply too terrible.

Especially after ordering a bowl of noodles, he felt that the oil was a bit irritating to his throat, so he concluded that it was gutter oil. But even though he could taste it, it was of no use, and he could only silently abandon the noodles he had just taken a bite of and go to deliver packages with an empty stomach.

More than two hours earlier than usual, he returned to the delivery station, handed over the packages he had collected to the counter, and after filling out today's work report, he was about to leave when Manager Wu called him.

"Chen Mo, come here for a moment." Manager Wu, seeing that Chen Mo had finished his work, called him over.

"Manager, you need me?" Chen Mo asked after entering the office.

"Sure! This is for you." Manager Wu took out a file folder containing several pages of paper and handed it to Chen Mo, saying, "This is the internship report you mentioned before. I have already completed it and stamped it for you. You can directly submit it to your school as your internship report."

"Manager Wu, thank you very much." Chen Mo was delighted to see what he needed and expressed his gratitude.

"It's not a big deal, just a small matter, no need to thank me." Manager Wu smiled and said.

"Manager Wu, is there something...?" Chen Mo asked, noticing that Manager Wu's smile seemed forced.

"I'm leaving tomorrow. A new manager will start tomorrow, so I can only help you with this much." Manager Wu explained.

"What? Manager Wu, you were doing well, why are you leaving?" Chen Mo asked, somewhat confused.

"Ah! It's nothing, I just don't want to do it anymore. Chen Mo, do well. I originally planned to give you a raise this month, but it's not possible now. However, I have already talked to the finance department and approved a 2,000 yuan bonus for you. You can go and collect it later. Also, the bonus is for everyone, please inform them on my behalf." Manager Wu said.

"Alright, then I'll take my leave, Manager Wu." Chen Mo could only bid farewell, as he was just a small nobody with no power.

"Go ahead!" Manager Wu said with a bitter smile.

After Chen Mo informed the others and collected the 2,000 yuan bonus, he vaguely overheard a few employees discussing Manager Wu. It seemed that a relative of a department head from headquarters was coming, so Manager Wu was being transferred to a rural area.

Manager Wu was doing well, but he suddenly faced an unexpected disaster. It was like being hit by a bullet while lying down. His family was all here, and going to a rural area would be very inconvenient. His child had just been born and needed his care, so in a fit of anger, he resigned and distributed all the bonuses before leaving.

After hearing this, Chen Mo could only shake his head and turn to leave, as he had no good solution.

Back home, after being hungry all day, he used the pot and stove he bought to cook a meal, and finally felt satisfied after eating. Although it was all vegetarian, it was much better and healthier than the breakfast and lunch he bought outside.

Thinking about it, he felt tears welling up. It seemed he would have to bring his own lunch tomorrow, as he really couldn't eat the food outside anymore.

After eating, he counted all his assets and was somewhat depressed to find that after saving for two years, he only had 10,000 yuan left, due to rent, tuition, and living expenses. What could he do with this? He probably couldn't even afford the land lease fees to return home.

Forget it, he would temporarily cultivate to the first level of Qi. The most important thing now was cultivation, and other matters could be dealt with later. If he really had no money, he could take a loan, or borrow from his friends, or even go back home and farm his own land, though thinking about his parents' expressions at that time made him feel a headache. His family hoped he could live in the city, but if he went back to farm, it would make them lose face in the village!

Forget it, he would cultivate to the first level of Qi, and there would always be a way out. Once he reached the first level of Qi, many things would be easier to handle. With this thought, he placed the small white bead in his palm and began to circulate his energy.

By the time he finished his practice at around five in the morning, he felt his connection with the small white bead had become a bit tighter, and he was very pleased. According to the feeling of his practice, once he reached the first level of Qi, he might be able to unlock some of the secrets of the small white bead.

However, his body was still covered in black substances. It seemed that without the nourishment of spiritual energy, his body had accumulated a lot of toxins.

After washing up, eating, and finishing his chores, he walked to work, carrying a lunch box he had prepared for the noon meal.

Chen Mo's work at the delivery station was actually quite simple, just responsible for delivering and collecting packages in a specific area every day. However, since it was a part-time job, he was not assigned to a fixed area, so he had to cover areas where deliveries were not completed, collections were needed, or where there were staff shortages, like a brick that could be placed wherever needed.

However, on this day, everyone was still there, gathered to wait for the new manager's speech. Manager Wu had already completed the handover, and the new manager had taken over.

The morning meeting did not say much. A supervisor from headquarters introduced the new manager, Guo Xing, and then Guo Xing gave a few encouraging words before dismissing everyone to continue their work as usual. Chen Mo did not take it to heart, continuing to do his job as usual, but he still felt a bit sorry about Manager Wu's departure.

A week later, with the increase in cultivation time, the amount of black substances being expelled had decreased. His skin became somewhat tender, and his body and mind were always in a good state. It seemed that his height had also increased, from a previously average height to nearly 1.8 meters.

Chen Mo felt that he was almost touching the threshold of the first level of Qi. During his cultivation last night, he vaguely felt a blockage in one of his meridians. Once he broke through, he would reach the first level of Qi. This was explained in the transmission jade talisman, so Chen Mo was very pleased, and he smiled on his way to work.

"Chen Mo, come here for a moment!" Manager Guo called him as soon as he saw Chen Mo come to work.

"Manager Guo, what's the matter?" Chen Mo asked. Since Manager Guo took over, he had not assigned any special tasks to anyone. Two days ago, a new employee joined, and according to rumors, he was Manager Guo's brother-in-law, but it did not concern Chen Mo much.

"From today on, you will be responsible for delivering packages in Area 4." Manager Guo said.

"Area 4? Isn't it handled by Su Huaiming?" Chen Mo mentioned Su Huaiming, who was Manager Guo's brother-in-law. The delivery station divided the area into several zones, each represented by a number.

The day after Manager Guo started, he brought in his brother-in-law. However, since all the positions were in the county, and a new employee could not immediately replace an old one, his brother-in-law was assigned to a vacant position. It just so happened that the delivery person in Area 4 had resigned, so Su Huaiming took over the position.

"Take responsibility for it, no need for so many words!" Manager Guo said impatiently.

"Then do I not need to handle the leftover packages and the temporary shifts I was responsible for?" Chen Mo asked.

"You will still handle those, so I am only assigning you the delivery work for Area 4, while Su Huaiming will handle the collection work." Manager Guo said.

Chen Mo felt a bit disgusted. Everyone knew that delivering packages did not earn much and was exhausting. Collecting packages was a good job, as you could earn a commission of one yuan for each package collected, which was both easy and profitable. He did not expect Manager Guo to play such a clever game.

"Manager Guo, this is not in accordance with the rules. If I am responsible for the work in Area 4, then the collection work should also be assigned to me." Chen Mo said, as he could not just work without being paid.

"Are you the manager or am I? Will you do the work I assign you? Either get to work quickly or get out!" Manager Guo said, as he had long been dissatisfied with Chen Mo, who always came back earlier than others and left early. He had been observing him for a week, and today he wanted to set an example with his first fire after taking office!
