Chapter 84

In the Military General Hospital.

At this cool night, the darkness was like a transparent veil that gently enveloped the bustling city.

The ward was quiet. Qin Shu glanced at the electronic display screen on the snow-white wall. It was almost twelve o’clock at midnight. Ling Mohan had not returned since he went to the military area in the morning. There hadn’t been any news since then either.

Qin Shu hugged her knees with both hands and gently placed her chin on her knees. She couldn’t help but sigh. There was an indescribable depression in her heart, and she was also a little worried.

Ling Mohan said that there were a lot of explosives buried around the base, so he went over to search for them. She didn’t know how it was going and whether he would encounter any danger.

The head nurse came to make the rounds of the wards. Seeing that Qin Shu was still awake, the head nurse said sternly, “Miss Qin, you haven’t fully recovered yet. You should rest early.”

“I’ll sleep now.” Qin Shu smiled with embarrassment at her and quickly lay down to sleep.

The head nurse turned off the light and then went out.

After a while, the ward fell into darkness. It was quiet, and only hazy light penetrated in through the window.

Qin Shu closed her eyes and slowly fell asleep.

After an unknown amount of time, she vaguely felt that someone was kissing her forehead.

Qin Shu’s heart skipped a beat. She opened her eyes and saw Ling Mohan’s enlarged handsome face. She could not see him clearly in the dark, but she could feel that the man’s deep and sharp eyes were staring at her, and the familiar and domineering breath lingered around her nose.

“You’re back?” She wanted to get up.

Ling Mohan pressed his hand down on her shoulder and whispered, “Go to sleep.”

Afterwards, he did not even take off his military coat and directly rolled over to lie beside Qin Shu. However, he did not hold her in his arms as domineeringly as usual, instead, he lay there peacefully.

Why did this hooligan behave so properly tonight?

Qin Shu was a little surprised. She felt it unspeakably strange, but she did not think too much and closed her eyes to fall sleep again.

She was never motionless in sleep. She kicked the quilt out of bed in the middle of the night. Feeling cold, she subconsciously leaned towards the man.

The warm aura and strong arms made Qin Shu feel very safe in her sleep and she kept moving closer to him.

She was already accustomed to being hugged by Ling Mohan and sleeping soundly in his arms. Her body also seemed to have memories of that and moved to roll into the other party’s arms.

However, in the next second, Qin Shu was suddenly pushed away by a force violently.

She suddenly woke up and realized that Ling Mohan had pushed her away. She didn’t know whether he was intentional or unintentional.

However, regardless of whether it was intentional or unintentional, this made Qin Shu a little unhappy. She tilted her head to see the man whose eyes were closed. She could vaguely hear his steady and long breathing. He should be sound asleep, so Qin Shu decided not to hold him responsible for the push.

She quietly got out of bed and pulled up the quilt, covering herself again. And she felt somewhat angry, so she moved a bit and kept a foot away from Ling Mohan.

But when it came to the second half of the night, Qin Shu slowly moved towards the man again.

She stretched out her long legs and rested them on Ling Mohan’s thin waist. She wanted to hug the other party’s neck with her white arms, and her head also intended to lean against his chest.

These were all habitual actions. She treated Ling Mohan as a big pillow.

Just as she was finding a comfortable position, Qin Shu was pushed by another strong force and rolled to the edge of the hospital bed, almost falling down.

Fortunately, Ling Mohan reacted quickly and grabbed her arm hard.

However, Qin Shu did not appreciate it. She shook off Ling Mohan’s hand and turned her back to the man.

Now she woke up completely. Thinking about how she had been ruthlessly pushed away by the man twice tonight when she offered to “throw herself on him,” as if she wanted him that badly, a wave of suppressed anger surged in her heart and she hugged the quilt even harder.

Bastard!

Qin Shu was so angry that she couldn’t fall sleep. She angrily scolded Ling Mohan in her heart. He was clearly kissing and hugging her this morning, but now he just pushed her away for no reason. They were not in the military area, could it be that he still wanted them to maintain a serious relationship as superior and subordinate?

Since that’s the case, then why did he come to her bed? Why didn’t he just go back to the military area so that she wouldn’t be annoyed!

The more Qin Shu thought about it, the angrier she became. She felt that Ling Mohan treated her as a gadget. He hugged her in his arms when he was happy and kicked her away when he was unhappy. He was simply a bad bastard.

“Are you angry?” A warm breath came to her ears. In the dark night, Ling Mohan’s voice was low, deep and sexy, and there was even a hint of doting affection carried with it.

Qin Shu suppressed her anger and said sarcastically, “I’m just a humble secretary. How dare I get angry with the colonel? You can do whatever you want. I’m sleepy. If you have any other orders, Colonel, talk to me tomorrow.”

“Colonel,” “Secretary,” she said like that. Ling Mohan frowned resignedly, but he still didn’t say anything.

Qin Shu didn’t get a reply and the anger in her heart increased by another degree.

The night then passed in her grievance and annoyance.

When she woke up the next day, Qin Shu found it was empty beside her. She scanned the ward and did not see the figure of the certain man.

He’s gone?

Qin Shu sat up on the bed and stared at nowhere blankly for a while before slowly curling her lips and smiling habitually.

So be it. He could come and go as he liked. Who cared about him!

In any case, there was nothing romantic between the two of them. If it weren’t for the irritating incident that happened three years ago when she was drunk, there wouldn’t be such a messy relationship between them.

It was just like what Ling Mohan had said, he did all the things for her in order to take on the responsibility.

Qin Shu hummed a tune as she brushed her teeth and washed her face for breakfast. She did not ask the guard when Ling Mohan left or when he would return.

She didn’t care anymore!

In the morning, Qin Shu used the iPad to login to her work-specific email address, and opened the military materials that Special Assistant Yang had sent her earlier to read.

She had a strong memory and was a quick reader. In less than half a day, she had memorized one-third of the materials.

For the next two days, Ling Mohan did not come back, nor did she hear any news from him.

This situation was like what happened after that night three years ago, when he suddenly disappeared from Qin Shu’s sight.

This time, Qin Shu was very calm. Not only was she not angry, she was actually happy and at ease about it.

She held the iPad every day to read the military materials, which were dull and boring, but she actually enjoyed reading them and memorized them well in two days.

In the evening, Qin Shu hit upon an idea. She went to the attending doctor and discharged herself from the hospital with the approval form.

Qin Shu did not tell Ling Mohan about this. She directly packed her things and the guard drove her back to the villa in the military compound.

At this time, it was already dark. The sentries around the villa were patrolling. From time to time, the loud shouting of soldiers could be heard from the distant playground. It was estimated that they were training at night.

The cold night breeze blew over, causing Qin Shu’s long hair to be a little messy.

When the guard at the door saw her, he immediately saluted her.

Qin Shu nodded, opened the door and walked in. The man in the living room suddenly raised his head, and the two of them were both caught off guard to meet each other.

Their eyes met, and they both frowned.

Qin Shu stared at Ling Mohan’s bare chest in disbelief. A shocking blood scar was there on his skin and it hadn’t formed a scab, looking bloody. He was holding a gauze that was stained with blood in his hand, and there were some ointments and clean gauze on the table in front of him.

“You …” Qin Shu took a few steps forward and ran over quickly.

Ling Mohan’s expression darkened. He quickly closed his open shirt and scolded her unhappily, “Who allowed you to leave the hospital?”

Qin Shu did not answer. Instead, she stared at his chest and asked with obvious anxiety, “How did you get injured? Why didn’t you call Doctor Zheng over?”

“It’s a slight injury,” he said unconcernedly and glared at Qin Shu sternly, “I told you to stay in the hospital. Why did you come back? Do you still feel dizzy now?”

Qin Shu twitched her mouth and glared back at him. “What are you so fierce about? What bad things could happen to me? The discharge was approved by the doctor. But you, you haven’t told me anything about the injury on your chest. And you haven’t changed the dressings yet. Why are you covering it? Show me!”

“How dare you talk back to me? Looks like I’ve spoiled you!” Ling Mohan rapped her forehead and then wanted to put on his military coat again. He didn’t want to show Qin Shu the wound on his chest.

Qin Shu was anxious and was about to strip off his clothes.

“Knock it off!” Ling Mohan grabbed her hand and furrowed his eyebrows. He paused for a moment and said, “It’ll scare you.”

Qin Shu sniffed at his words and curved the corner of her mouth, saying, “I’m not those soft and weak little girls. I won’t be frightened by your injury.”

She was very stubborn. Ling Mohan could not persuade her, so he could only pull open his clothes again, revealing a large patch of honey-colored and sturdy skin. His chest muscles were robust and strong, causing Qin Shu’s heartbeat to accelerate.

At this moment of facing the seductive man, she had to be calm!

Qin Shu’s gaze landed on the wound. It was about ten centimeters long and was close to his right chest. The flesh and blood were flipping outwards, and she could faintly see watery blood. It truly looked a bit terrifying!

“How did you get hurt?” Qin Shu couldn’t help but ask again, her eyes revealing some worry.

Ling Mohan said in a deep voice, “A few days ago, when we went into the base to search, there were still some explosives that weren’t found. Then some of them exploded, and I was injured by the shrapnel.”

It was actually the explosive!

Qin Shu was secretly shocked.

Although she had long since known that a special forces soldier like him would often visit dangerous areas, and he had long since become accustomed to this, she still couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable in her heart when hearing him mention the danger so lightly, as if he had put his life aside.

All of a sudden, Qin Shu remembered Ling Mohan’s unusual behavior the night before yesterday. He pushed her away twice. Was it because she touched his wound?

At that time, he had just gotten injured and had specially hurried back to the hospital to keep her company, but she lost her temper…

Qin Shu’s heart was filled with regret. She uncomfortably cleared her throat and hurriedly picked up the gauze and the ointment. “Let me apply the medicine to your wound.”

Ling Mohan raised his eyebrows slightly and stared at her for a while. He nodded and said, “Alright!”

He didn’t want Qin Shu to know about him being injured because he was afraid of scaring her, but now it seemed that Qin Shu wasn’t as cowardly as he imagined.

In retrospect, Qin Shu had stayed by his side for so long, and she had encountered dangers many times. Although her face was pale with fright every time, she was always calm at the critical moment and never panicked.

Ling Mohan’s thin lips curled up slightly, and he suddenly pressed his hand on Qin Shu’s head and gave her a hard kiss on the forehead.

“Hey, don’t move!”

Qin Shu was about to apply the medicine to him, but affected by his movement, her hand shook and the bottle containing the medicine powder fell on the man’s crotch. The medicine powder was scattered everywhere.

“It’s all your fault,” Qin Shu complained. She used her hand to gather the powder and wanted to put them back into the bottle.

Wait, something seemed wrong.

“Whoosh!” Qin Shu retracted her hand and subconsciously raised her head. She discovered that Ling Mohan was staring at her with an extremely deep gaze.
