Chapter 42: Blood Debt Must Be Repaid
Without the smoke of war, the air was filled with a stimulating tension. Zhao Heng changed his posture, leaning against the sofa, and closed his eyes slightly, shouting to Fat Qiao:
"Central Cannon!"
Fat Qiao's mouth opened wide: "Boss, are you playing blind chess?"
Zhao Heng, leaning against the sofa, did not say much more, only waving for Fat Qiao to move the pieces for him. Fat Qiao pulled out a central cannon as instructed, feeling his blood surge. After all, he was engaged in a smokeless war, a classic game that would leave a mark in the Huahai chess world.
Zhao Siqing bit her red lips, thinking about something but decided to win and then humiliate Zhao Heng.
The originally gentle opening of the chess game was quickly turned into a battlefield by Zhao Heng. His chess style was always decisive and fierce, unlike Uncle Feng, who taught him chess. Zhao Heng preferred to pursue ultimate victory through absolute attack, masking his weaknesses with bold moves.
Of course, each of Zhao Heng's moves was carefully thought out and calculated, but his speed was still astonishing. Almost as soon as Qiao Yun reported the opponent's move, Zhao Heng would recite his response, and he never once looked at the board, which left the onlookers in awe.
Ding Lingling's face gradually changed from mockery to complexity. She hadn't expected that the mountain boy would do everything to surprise her. Not only could he calmly face her with her prominent background, but he could also act arrogantly and deeply in front of Zhao Siqing, which left her feeling somewhat uncomfortable. She had always wanted Zhao Heng to be humiliated but saw him dominate every time.
Tu Honggang, rubbing his large bald head, had a glint of aggression in his eyes. Looking at Zhao Heng, who was right in front of him, he had at least three times the urge to smash a bottle on his head. But every time he approached, he could feel the killing intent emanating from Zhao Heng, which made him hesitate.
Thinking of his loss on the basketball court, he decided to suppress his anger for now and wait until he gathered enough athletes to take revenge.
Fifteen minutes later, Zhao Heng, with his eyes still closed, said calmly: "Officer Zhao, after thirty-six moves, I will win by a slight margin. If you don't want to lose too badly, let's call it a draw now. No hard feelings, and I'll drink three glasses of strong liquor to apologize to you!"
Ding Lingling pointed at Zhao Heng mockingly: "Are you a chess saint? Just win then."
Song Qingguan, looking at the board, was confused:
"Boss, are you winning?"
The pieces were still fiercely battling, and both sides looked strong, with no clear advantage. Zhao Siqing's eyes also showed a hint of confusion. She had already sensed that Zhao Heng was skilled, but she was furious at his arrogance: "There's no need for apologies between us. Let's finish this game."
Zhao Siqing moved a horse: "I can afford to lose!"
Song Qingguan noticed Fat Qiao's slight shake of the head.
"Fight to the death?"
Zhao Heng smiled: "I'll oblige you!"
Half an hour later, Zhao Siqing was left with a chariot and a cannon, while Zhao Heng had only a horse and two pawns that had crossed the river. Zhao Heng sipped a glass of lemon water slowly and said as the opponent was deep in thought: "The game is already decided! Officer Zhao has some skills, but you're too proud!"
Fat Qiao was in awe of Zhao Heng. He could now see the outcome of the game. It was unrealistic for Zhao Siqing to try to force a win with her remaining chariot and cannon. Once the battle entered the late stage, with most of the usual pieces gone, the cannon's role became less significant, even less than a pawn.
Now, only seven pieces remained on the board, and the outcome was clear.
Ding Lingling and Tu Honggang frowned.
Zhao Siqing's face was grim as she collected the pieces: "Again!"
Zhao Heng smiled: "Let you have a chariot, a horse, or a cannon?"
Zhao Siqing was frustrated: "No need!"
At almost the same moment, more than ten black vans sped towards the Huahai bar. Out stepped Brother Feihu, bandaged, and a group of fierce black-clad men. Five of them had an especially intimidating presence, their every move exuding a different kind of killing intent, clearly men who had seen much bloodshed.
A security guard rushed over: "Brother Feihu, they're inside!"
"Surround them; don't let them out."
As Brother Feihu led his men into the bar, Zhao Siqing was sweating on her forehead.
Although Zhao Heng had thoroughly defeated her in the first game, even while playing blind, she still thought she had been too complacent, leading to her narrow loss. She believed that if she focused in the second game, she would regain her dignity. However, she lost again without any suspense.
When Zhao Heng opened his eyes and broke through the opponent's defenses to capture the general, he still had a chariot, a horse, and a cannon at his disposal. Zhao Siqing's face was ashen. Zhao Heng then said calmly: "Officer Zhao, do you want to play a third game? I'm happy to play tonight if you do."
"Sis Qing, crush him!"
Ding Lingling, unable to tolerate Zhao Heng's arrogance, held a bottle and said to Zhao Siqing: "He won by luck; he'll definitely lose if we play again." Then she closed her mouth, remembering that Zhao Heng had already won two out of three games, making the third game meaningless.
"I lost!"
Zhao Siqing exhaled, reluctantly admitting defeat. She said coldly: "The matter with Fat Qiao is settled. I won't hold him responsible or report him to the police. But you'd better not break the law again, especially not in front of me, or I won't be lenient."
When Zhao Heng asked for something, Zhao Siqing added: "Don't talk to me about revenge. As a detective captain, I'm always ready to use my power for personal gain. If you break the law, I'll arrest you without hesitation."
She displayed her authority as a woman, and Qiao Yun and Song Qingguan silently nodded in agreement. Zhao Heng seemed unsurprised by her attitude and responded with a faint smile: "If you want to take revenge, come at me. Even if you find an excuse to shoot me, it's fine, but don't go after them!"
"Otherwise, Officer Zhao's days won't be easy."
Zhao Heng pointed at Qiao Yun and Song Qingguan, who felt a warm spring in their hearts.
Zhao Siqing didn't pay much attention to Zhao Heng's threat but glanced at him curiously, surprised by his sense of righteousness. He took everything on himself and didn't involve his friends. This could be a weakness to exploit in the future. A faint smile crossed her lips.
While Zhao Siqing was thinking, Ding Lingling stood up straight and said fiercely: "Sis Qing, why are you making promises to such people? They're clearly three despicable cheats who deceive young girls. Just arrest them, and we can testify."
"Right, we can testify that they are cheats."
Tu Honggang, seizing the opportunity, added: "That's right. Gentlemen keep their promises, but you don't need to be so considerate when dealing with people." He waved a half-empty bottle, threatening Zhao Heng and his friends, and his companions shouted, ready to attack.
Zhao Siqing waved them to quiet down. Although she was angry at Zhao Heng's arrogance, she was still a detective captain and had to maintain some credibility, especially in a public place. She said calmly: "It's fine, let them go. I'll see them again soon."
She waved at Zhao Heng and his friends: "Go."
Zhao Heng's face was expressionless. He stood up, patted his clothes, and was about to leave with Qiao Yun and Song Qingguan when a commotion at the entrance caught his attention. Dozens of people split into three groups and blocked all their exits, each looking fierce like wild beasts just out of the mountains.
The surrounding patrons first scattered, then gathered to see what was happening.
"Brother, we meet again."
Brother Feihu displayed a smug look. Although he knew Zhao Heng's formidable skills, he had brought nearly a hundred men, including five fierce knife-wielding men personally assigned by Lord Zhang. His confidence was unshaken, so he pointed at Zhao Heng and shouted: "You owe the Qing Gang a blood debt, and it's time to pay!"
Qiao Yun and Song Qingguan's faces turned serious.
