This book... how should I put it? It’s finally opened again, huh? How do I say “again”?

Not long ago, I accidentally saw a post by a book fan friend about me, the gist of which was that Old Bian no longer had the boldness and passion he had when writing *One Shot of Blood*.

I have to admit, I’m no longer the young man in my twenties who could sit down at the computer and write seven or eight thousand words, or even ten thousand, in one go. In the face of the long passage of time, even the most intense passion will fade.

The protagonists in my stories, from Lin Yi, Chou Tian, Shen Kun, Lu Fei, Wu Hua, Ye Shuang to Zhang He, are like myself. With the turmoil of the world and the passage of time, each one is wiser and more mature than the last. Perhaps, the main reason is that I’m getting old.

When I wrote *Border Town Rogue*, I could sit in front of the computer for half a day, or even an entire night. But now, I can’t do that anymore. When I was writing *Dynasty Sword*, I often spent an entire afternoon to finish a chapter, and I had to rack my brains to complete it. During that time, I needed three or four cups of coffee, and I would smoke countless cigarettes...

Sometimes I ask myself, have I run out of ideas, or am I really too old to continue writing?

The previous book, *Dynasty Sword*, didn’t perform well, and I didn’t really care. But later, when I saw that the ratio of pirated to legitimate copies was shockingly high, my heart felt cold. After writing for so many years, could it be that there are really very few true book friends who are willing to follow me?

It has been nine months since *Dynasty* ended. During this time, I once didn’t want to write anymore. I often felt helpless and unable to cope. More importantly, my familiar book friends all know that Old Bian is still the same Old Bian, and there are some things that Old Bian can never change.

I can’t campaign for votes, I can’t write erotic content, I can’t write overly unrealistic stories, I can’t pander to readers, I can’t pad my writing, I can’t dominate the world, I can’t topple a group, and I can’t...

There are many things I can’t do.

From a commercial writing perspective, Old Bian is really not a qualified author.

So, what can Old Bian do?

I believe that those who have been following my books for many years know that there are still many key themes in Old Bian’s writing: good men, good brothers, for ideals, for justice, braving the sword mountain, and venturing into the dragon’s lair...

Perhaps Old Bian’s only strength is writing about the world of the jianghu.

The jianghu is not the jianghu of one person; it is the jianghu of a group of people. In the jianghu, there are sword fights and grudges, as well as chivalry and tenderness. Old Bian’s jianghu is both colorful and ever-changing, filled with passionate friendships and treacherous plots...

Old Bian just wants to tell a complete story through his novels. When you finish reading the story, if you feel that you have gained something, that is enough.

Not long ago, I was browsing online and saw a post discussing Old Bian. The people arguing were divided into two groups: one group lamented the missed opportunities in Old Bian’s writing career, while the other group believed that Old Bian was an author who lacked ambition and was unwilling to adapt. The debate was heated and ongoing, but none of that was important. What was important was that one book friend posted this: "Stop arguing. In today’s era, there are very few authors like Old Bian. Please cherish him!"

When I saw this, I was deeply moved!

Thus, the idea of continuing to write a new book arose in my heart and couldn’t be extinguished. Perhaps it was because of my own unwillingness to give up, or perhaps it was because I didn’t want to abandon my hobby. But I think the main reason is that I couldn’t bear to disappoint those book friends who were still eagerly waiting for news of my new book. I didn’t want those eyes filled with anticipation to leave with disappointment.

Thus, *Absolute Violence* was born. Its background is very different from the previous book, but the core remains unchanged. It still tells the story of a commoner’s journey in the jianghu, filled with sword fights, love, and hate, as well as my usual passion and humor.

Today, I open this new book with a nervous heart, hoping it won’t end up with the same poor performance as the last one. A new book can’t do without the support of both new and old friends. I can’t compare to my younger self now; I’m older, and I have many responsibilities. Writing each chapter takes a lot of energy.
