Chapter 24: Identity Revealed (Three in One) – Part Two
Mai Gu Forest was a Level 45 grinding area. With as much as a 6 level difference, even Naozhong and the others wouldn’t dare to enter or leave the forest alone. If they accidentally stepped into the hatred range of a Skeletal Wild Dog, they would be very unfortunate.
But Xiao Ran wasn’t afraid at all. It wasn’t because he had confidence in his skills and thought that he could completely avoid the mobs, but because he didn’t need to be careful at all.
After opening the database to search for the coordinates he wanted, he walked to the sparsely populated area.
With his bold change in position along with the sparsely populated Mai Gu Forest and numerous wild mobs, Xiao Ran stepped into the hatred range of a Skeletal Wild Dog in under a minute.
A pile of bones under a rotting tree quickly condensed into a small wild dog. Although the wild dog was a dry skeletal frame, its glowing eyes and skeletal jaw with snarling teeth still gave people goosebumps.
The newborn baby wild dog aimed at the target of its hatred. It snapped its teeth viciously at Xiao Ran for a while, then suddenly its entire head dropped down, and the dim light in its eyes became pitiful. It fell to the ground and made a whimpering noise, as if it were begging for mercy.
Not just that baby wild dog, but all the wild dogs on the road looked at Xiao Ran as if he were a ghost, and hid in the corner in fear that he would approach them. Their pitiful appearance was completely different from when they were attacking players.
That was the benefit of a god-level NPC.
If Xiao Ran didn’t take the initiative to attack them, even if he got too close to them, they wouldn’t dare to attack a god-level NPC.
The only downside was that this feature could easily make teammates suspicious when in a team.
So unless is was necessary, Xiao Ran wouldn’t walk at the front of the team, and would usually attack mobs in his line of sight as fast as possible.
Although it was mildly troublesome to do all the time, once he got used to it, those small actions weren’t a big issue for him.
According to the coordinates displayed in the database, Xiao Ran ran toward the destination – a deep pit that had been surveyed in the middle of the forest.
The ground along the edge of the pit was covered with black blood. As soon as Xiao Ran got near the pit, he smelled the disgusting scent of rust and blood.
He stuck his head out and looked down. The center of the pit was dark, but he could vaguely make out some white bones at the bottom of the pit. Under the grey sky of Mai Gu Forest, the large pit with a radius of ten meters and a depth of ten meters looked extremely treacherous and haunting.
If a player accidentally fell it, he’s sure it would not be a good experience.
But Xiao Ran was going to take advantage of the deep pit today to kill many monsters in leaps and bounds.
According to official data, instances were without a doubt the first fastest way to level up, and second way was to do the main quest. When the number of instances was all used up and there was no main quest to complete, it was time to kill mobs in grinding areas.
And what Xiao Ran had to do today while killing monsters was incomparable to killing monsters of the same level.
Since killing monsters at higher levels would yield extra experience as rewards, the greater the level difference, the more extra experience there would be.
With Xiao Ran’s current level of 39, killing those Level 45 Skeletal Wild Dogs with a level difference of 6 would get extra experience as high as 600%, more than Elite or Royal mobs.
After checking the surroundings near the deep pit, he repeatedly confirming that the deep pit’s slope was as he thought. If he fell down, he wouldn’t be able to climb up again. Xiao Ran took out his large brush and went back into the Mai Gu Forest again. This time, instead of ignoring the Skeletal Wild Dogs he saw along the road, he used his skills one by one to cause them minimal damage.
After being attacked, the pitiful wild dogs finally bared their sharp fangs. With long-toothed snarls, they stretched out their skeletal front legs and charged toward Xiao Ran.
Due to the huge amount of mobs that he needed to attract, Xiao Ran didn’t use too many delicate tactics like in the instances. He just casually struck them, then turned around and ran.
Along the way as he ran, Xiao Ran alerted more Skeletal Wild Dogs.
One, two, three, four, five…… One of them caught up. After using the Reed Painting skill, the five wild dogs were gathered together again.
Xiao Ran had a lot of crowd control skills, and in a short amount of time, there were twenty Skeletal Wild Dogs following closely behind him.
If anyone saw the scene just then, they would have been shocked.
The wild dogs were lined up in twos and threes. They were gathered into three lines to chase after Xiao Ran. If not for his precise operations, there would have been no way to gather the little mobs so perfectly.
Xiao Ran rushed out of the forest with the wild dogs. Seeing that he was getting closer to the deep pit, Xiao Ran didn’t slow down. Instead, he sped up toward the center of the deep pit. The Skeletal Wild Dogs behind him also chased ahead with all of their strength.
Xiao Ran sprinted full speed ahead toward the edge of the deep pit, then leapt. Just as he was about to fall into the pit, he flicked his wrist and a small white cloud appeared in front of him. The distance was exactly right, and Xiao Ran landed steadily on the white cloud.
The Skeletal Wild Dogs that followed him were not so lucky. Xiao Ran had jumped too suddenly. The first three ran into the deep pit without hesitation. The next two noticed something was wrong and paused just a step away from the deep pit, but the one behind them couldn’t stop the train, and it pushed the two innocent Skeletal Wild Dogs down.
After luring four or five Skeletal Wild Dogs into the pit like that, the remaining wild dogs snarled at Xiao Ran in mid-air. Some even made heroic leaps, trying to catch Xiao Ran.
Xiao Ran calculated the time. There was still a short amount left on the three second duration for the white cloud, so he jumped up again. The moment his body was in the air, the time limit for the white cloud under his feet expired. He quickly drew another white cloud in the position where his feet would land, and successfully landed on a new white cloud.
The position of the new white cloud was just above the previous white cloud. When the wild dog that leapt up was about to step on the previous white cloud, it dissipated into mist, and the wild dog unfortunately stumbled and fell.
Xiao Ran’s operations seemed simple, but there were in fact very precise requirements for the timing and release of the white cloud, since both the duration and cooldown time were three seconds. In that extremely short period of time in the air, he had to first calculate the landing point, then draw the white cloud at the landing point so that he could steadily land on it.
The position and timing must be extremely accurate. Being too fast or too slow would cause his body to fall from mid-air into the deep pit.
Although they saw their companion fall into the deep pit, Xiao Ran was still within their range of hatred. The Skeletal Wild Dogs jumped up one after another like moths to a flame to climb up to Xiao Ran in mid-air, then fell into the deep pit one after another, no exceptions.
Seeing that the last wild dog had fallen into the pit, Xiao Ran breathed a sigh of relief and drew a white cloud to calmly and smoothly return to the ground.
Twenty wild dogs had all entered the pit, and only a few bones could be seen faintly trembling inside. If it weren’t for the continuous barking, it would be very difficult to distinguish the Skeletal Wild Dogs from the original bones at the bottom of the pit.
Xiao Ran glanced at his results in satisfaction. Then, using the same tactic, he went a different direction and attracted twenty more Skeletal Wild Dogs into the pit.
Twenty, forty, sixty, eighty…… After reaching eighty, Xiao Ran stopped counting them.
In fact, if he really wanted to, hundreds of wild dogs could be lured into the pit. But with that many, the collective howling of the wild dogs would be too loud, and it would easily attract the attention of other players.
Now that the wild dogs had fallen into the buggy terrain that Xiao Ran had prepared and couldn’t climb up, it meant that any spellcasting plater, so long as they had a group attack skill, could stand on the edge of the pit and easily harvest the experience and equipment inside of it.
