★World Setting

-----------------------------------

I'll add things that might be of interest.

●Nobility Titles and Settings

As mentioned in the preface of chapters 4-8, in places like the UK, nobles above the rank of baron are addressed as "Lord [Name of Estate] [Title]" or "Lord [Name of Estate]." However, in this work, for simplicity, they are addressed as "Lord [Name of Estate] [Title]," and knights are addressed as "Lord [Name of Estate]" (or "Lord [Surname]" if they don't have an estate).

In the current setting of the story, in the Kingdom of Silvester, where the Rain March Duke serves, only nobles have surnames. These are usually the names of their estates, but they may not always match due to changes in land ownership, which is a realistic scenario. Former nobles who have fallen to commoner status might still use their titles. Additionally, merchants and others might use their business names (like the Revi Trading Company) as surnames.

The ranks of nobility include Duke, Marquess, March Duke, Earl, Viscount, Baron, and Knight. These are hereditary. Below them are the Squires, who are not nobles but are treated as such for one generation and can use their surnames.

Dukes are generally the heads of families within three generations of the king at the time of his ascension, and they lose their ducal status as the bloodline diverges.

Nobles of the rank of Earl and above are called High Nobles and do not have the obligation to pay taxes to the royal family (though they may be ordered to make public investments in the capital, etc., and may also be required to pay tribute. Additionally, important locations such as ports and mines within their territories may be directly managed by the royal family).

Viscounts, Barons, and Knights do not necessarily have estates and may serve higher nobles for a salary, known as vassal nobles.
