Chapter 89

The mysterious unit, which seemed to be either the knight corps or the guard of the Kingdom of Tempest, did not appear to be about to move immediately, but it was not impossible that they might suddenly move tomorrow.
Malaki also seemed unable to guess the intentions of the unit. When he asked about the flags raised by the unit as a precaution, Malaki did not know any of them. What particularly caught his attention was that Malaki did not even know the flag of the Sun God Pyros. It seemed that in Malaki's time, the Sun God Pyros was not worshipped. It was a strange story. As far as Al knew, the Sun God Pyros was a powerful deity that existed in every major city, and there were even countries where people were ruled by the Sun God Pyros. Moreover, he strongly denied the existence of the undead. Al's speculation that the undead might have overflowed from this tomb was based on such a background.
The processing of the goblin mage's assistant device that Malaki was handling had not yet been completed, but it was no longer the time for that. Putting the processing on hold, Al and Malaki began to discuss how to move.
"The stone coffin won't fit, right?"
"Yes, that's right. The board under Lord Tempest and his remains, and the water flask on the altar, I would like to ask for your help with those. Also, the ones accompanying us will be the puppet golem and the upper work golem."
The stone coffin alone would easily exceed one ton. It was far too heavy to be moved by a transportation spell. Al had verified this a while ago, and the total weight he could carry was 330 kilograms. The disk-like object could be divided into 11 parts, each weighing 30 kilograms. This was probably due to his level of proficiency.
The board under the remains was a magical artifact, which had a combined effect of packing and preservation spells, maintaining the state of the body. Thanks to this, Tempest's body had not decayed and had turned into adipocere, preserving its appearance from life. The water flask on the altar contained a sweet, not too strong wine that Tempest had liked, and Orson had been saved thanks to this. The great mage Tempest had refused luxurious burial goods but had requested that this be included. Together with the remains, it weighed about 30 kilograms. Transporting this part would not be a problem.
"I understand about the remains, the board, and the water flask. But the golems are really big, right? No matter where we move, won't they be noticeable? And how do you command the golems without Lord Tempest?"
Al tilted his head and asked. The existence of the golems was a mystery to him. The golem he remembered was the giant figure about three meters tall in the first room he entered, which probably weighed over two tons. The puppet golem and work golem would not be much different. If something of that size moved, it would be noticed immediately. First of all, how would you give the golems instructions to move? Tempest, who created the golems, was long dead.
"The puppet golem and the upper work golem are both about the size of a human or a child. They are only slightly heavier than a human. If you get close, you'll immediately realize they are golems, but from a distance, they can move without drawing attention. As for commanding the golems... it would be faster to show you."
Al nodded at Malaki's words. But where were such golems?
"There was a large room along the way. The door is camouflaged, but it leads to the golem waiting area. Let's move to the waiting area first. We can talk after that."
The large room was probably the one where Al first encountered the ghost. It was indeed large, and the shock of encountering the ghost had prevented him from thoroughly exploring every corner. He had not noticed such a hidden room at all. The ruins were so vast that he had not been able to explore every detail. Al thought that if he ever had the chance to visit ancient ruins again, he would have to be more careful.
Al moved there with Malaki in his hand. The wall Malaki mentioned was seamless, and it was hard to believe there was a door there. Malaki gave Al detailed instructions on where to touch the wall. There was a specific position and timing to touch, which seemed to be the signal to open the wall. Such a door would not be found without magical perception.
Following Malaki's instructions, Al touched the wall at the right timing. It did not work the first two times, but on the third try, the wall finally reacted. A line of light appeared on the wall, blinking as if warning, and the part surrounded by the light indented and then silently opened to the sides. The opening was quite large, about five meters in size. Beyond it was a spacious room, about thirty meters on each side.
First, a row of silver golems about three meters tall, similar in height to the guardian golem, came into view. They had a slightly different shape, with a barrel-shaped torso and two thick arms and legs like a human. The head, which was high up, was probably a hemisphere. They gave an impression of being stocky. There were ten of them.
On the wall side, two human-sized golems stood. One was slightly taller than Al, about 170 centimeters. It had a rounded, white, glossy body that was slender like a human. The head had raised eyebrows and a nose, and the eye area was slightly indented, giving it a doll-like appearance. It seemed to have worn clothes, but they were now in tatters, with scraps scattered on the floor. The joints were spherical in shape.
The other was about 140 centimeters tall, with a barrel-shaped, dull, glossy silver torso like the larger golems, and two thin arms and legs like a human. The head was a simple hemisphere with no facial features, giving it a toy-like appearance. Unlike the other golems, whose limbs ended in simple rounded shapes, these two had five fingers like a human.
"The large golems are work golems. Of the human-sized golems, the taller one is the puppet golem, and the shorter one is the upper work golem. Please hang my crystal device around the puppet golem's neck."
Al did as he was told and hung Malaki's crystal device around the puppet golem's neck. Immediately, the puppet golem came to life as if a switch had been turned on. It moved smoothly, almost like a human. After performing a series of dance-like movements, it turned to face Al.
"Can you hear me?"
From the area around the puppet golem's head, the same voice that had been heard in Al's ear earlier sounded.
"Malaki? Can you speak?"
"Yes, I'm outputting words as sound. I can see your appearance too. So, this is what you look like. Hmm, it's been a while since I last used this, but it seems to be working fine. As expected of Lord Tempest."
The puppet golem, controlled by Malaki, lightly turned its head to check the surroundings and then examined its own hands to confirm its movements. Its body was a smooth, white, glossy material, but if it wore clothes and hid its face, it might pass for a human.
"Amazing."
"We, the assistants, recognize the surroundings through the senses of our owners. Lord Tempest was very concerned about this after his death. Therefore, he created this puppet golem to replace his senses and to be able to move and perform various tasks. I used to play with him in life. However, since I wanted to sleep with Lord Tempest, I never used this."
"Gry, I want one! I want one! I want one! I want to walk freely. I want to see Alu properly, not just in a mirror."
Gry was repeatedly shouting in Al's ear.
"Is this the only one that was created?"
"It seems Ingrid wants one. Hehe, there is only one completed golem that can connect to the assistant device, but there should be prototypes left in Lord Tempest's research tower. The design plans should also be there, so you might be able to make one by studying the prototypes. However, Lord Tempest was a genius in golem creation. You probably won't achieve the same level of completion."
Malaki seemed to understand Gry's reaction.
"Alu, please. Let's hurry to the research tower."
"Alright, alright. Let's hurry. But we can't do anything without a flying spell. First, we need to move Lord Tempest's remains."
Al held Gry's assistant device and tried to calm her down, and Gry finally quieted down.
