Sukuo went out.
She got in the car, sat down, and fastened her seatbelt.
After a few days without seeing each other, Gu Beixian seemed a bit thinner, his already deep-set features becoming even more angular, his eyebrows and eyes so handsome that one couldn't look away.
Sukuo realized she still loved him deeply and couldn't forget him at all.
"Here, it's a welcome gift," Gu Beixian said, handing her an exquisite dark blue velvet jewelry box.
Sukuo took it, opened it, and found a "Weng Zhong" carved from white jade.
Weng Zhong is a famous jade carving known for its protective qualities.
The jade figure stood in a long robe, with simple lines used to depict its facial features and clothing, the carving technique being concise and powerful.
The jade was smooth, elegant, and translucent, a true gem among jade.
Sukuo held the jewelry box, tilted her head to look at him, and smiled faintly, "Why did you give me such an expensive gift?"
Gu Beixian smiled lightly, gazing into her eyes, "You restore ancient paintings and calligraphy, and you might come into contact with things from ancient tombs. Wearing something protective would be good. Come, let me put it on you."
He picked up the jade carving and placed it around Sukuo's neck.
As his fingers gathered her hair, his fingertips accidentally brushed against her neck.
The touch was cool and bone-chilling, causing Sukuo's skin to shiver slightly, and her heart followed suit.
She had always been sensitive to his touch.
Thinking about their current relationship, Sukuo felt a bitter taste in her heart and forced a smile, "Don't give me anything else in the future."
It would easily lead to misunderstandings, making her think he still had feelings for her. She would inevitably overthink and even yearn for more.
Gu Beixian placed his long fingers on the steering wheel and said casually, "It's just a small jade carving, don't take it to heart."
He started the car.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the old Gu family residence.
As soon as they entered, the white-haired Gu grandmother, frail and trembling, came forward and hugged Sukuo, "Oh, my dear granddaughter-in-law, I've missed you so much!"
Sukuo always felt that the grandmother's behavior today was a bit exaggerated.
Usually, she maintained a noble and dignified demeanor.
Sukuo smiled and asked, "Grandma, what important matter do you need me for?"
The grandmother took her hand and glanced at Gu Beixian, "Let's eat first, we'll talk after."
The meal was very lavish, with a table full of delicacies.
The grandmother kept serving Sukuo, smiling at her, "Three years ago, I chose a wife for Beixian from all over the city. Among so many girls' photos, I immediately chose you. You have clear eyebrows and bright eyes, and your ears have drooping pearls, a sign of good fortune for your husband. Indeed, after Beixian married you, his leg recovered after just two years, and his company has been doing better and better."
Suddenly, the grandmother covered her mouth and started coughing violently.
Sukuo hurriedly patted her back.
After coughing, the grandmother grabbed her hand, "You are such a perfect child, gentle and calm, hardworking and loyal. When Beixian's leg couldn't stand, his temper was very bad, and many caregivers and servants couldn't bear it and left. Only you stayed by his side. If it weren't for you, he might have been ruined for life."
Tears streamed down her face.
Sukuo quickly took out a tissue to wipe her tears.
Gu Beixian's grip on his chopsticks tightened, his eyes dark and thoughtful.
The grandmother glanced at him and said breathlessly, "Grandma now has only one wish, that you and Beixian will be good to each other and give me a big, healthy grandson soon."
Sukuo glanced awkwardly at Gu Beixian.
It seemed he hadn't told the grandmother about their divorce.
The grandmother's voice grew weaker, "I'm old, and I might pass away at any moment. If I can see your child born before I die, I will die content."
Sukuo's nose tingled, and she quickly said, "Grandma, you will live a long life."
"I know my own body best, I'm eighty years old," the grandmother covered her chest and struggled to stand, "I feel uncomfortable, I'll go lie down."
Sukuo hurriedly helped her to the bedroom.
Just before reaching the bedroom door.
The grandmother suddenly turned around and said to Gu Beixian, "Starting tonight, you two will stay here. When Sukuo gets pregnant, you can move back."
Gu Beixian was about to speak, but the grandmother, hunched over, shuffled into the bedroom.
Sukuo carefully supported her, afraid of hurting her with too much force.
After lying down, the grandmother took her hand and whispered, "I know you moved back to your parents' house. Don't worry, as long as I'm here, you won't get divorced. Beixian is filial, he listens to me."
"But..."
"There's no 'but.' That Chu Suosuo can only share in good times, not in hard times. Such a heartless person doesn't deserve to enter our Gu family."
Sukuo paused and said, "Grandma, should we call a doctor to check on you?"
"No need, I'm old and have many illnesses. Doctors can't do much. Go eat, and close the door for me."
"Okay, you rest well."
Once Sukuo left, the grandmother sat up in bed, looking energetic, a stark contrast to her frail appearance earlier.
Sukuo returned to the dining table.
Grandpa Gu served her a lamb leg, "Xiao Su, eat while it's hot."
"Thank you, Grandpa."
Sukuo put on disposable gloves and started eating slowly.
Gu Beixian looked at Grandpa Gu, "Grandpa, the last time I saw Grandma, she was quite strong. How did she become so frail in such a short time?"
Grandpa Gu sighed heavily, "Old age does that. One moment she's lively, the next she's gone. You two must be good to each other and not upset her."
Gu Beixian's handsome face turned serious.
After the meal, the two returned to the guest bedroom.
As soon as the door closed.
Sukuo asked, "What should we do? Are we really going to stay here?"
Gu Beixian's brow furrowed, and he loosened his tie, "With Grandma's condition, she can't handle any shock. Let's stay for a few days and see how it goes."
Sukuo looked back at the bed, "There's only one bed, how are we going to sleep?"
Gu Beixian's lips curved slightly, "Close your eyes and sleep."
Sukuo was a bit anxious, "I'm not joking, I'm serious."
Gu Beixian slowly took off his watch and threw it on the bedside table, "You go take a shower first, then I'll go."
"Okay."
Sukuo went to the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth, then quickly took a shower.
When she came back, it was Gu Beixian's turn to shower.
Lying in bed, she couldn't sleep, her mind racing. They were about to divorce, yet they were still sleeping in the same bed. What was this all about?
Suddenly, Gu Beixian's phone on the bedside table rang.
Sukuo didn't like to invade his privacy, so she let it ring.
After ringing twice, it stopped.
Not long after, her phone rang.
Sukuo glanced at the caller ID, it was an unknown number.
When she answered, a sweet female voice said, "Sister Sukuo, is Brother Beixian with you?"
"Who is this?"
The woman paused for a second and said, "I'm his sister."
Sukuo thought it might be one of Gu Beixian's cousins, so she said, "He's in the shower, I'll have him call you back when he's done."
"Okay, thank you."
After showering, Gu Beixian came out without clothes, only a towel around his waist, and a towel in his hand to dry his hair.
His broad shoulders and long legs were extremely impressive.
His abs were well-defined and strong, the muscle lines beautiful, exuding a mesmerizing charm under the orange light.
Sukuo's heart raced, and her ears turned red as if they had been touched by a flame.
She turned her head to avoid his gaze and said softly, "One of your sisters just called you, you should call her back."
Gu Beixian nodded and walked to the bedside table to pick up his phone.
He walked out.
When he returned, his handsome face was dark and stormy, and he asked coldly, "Did you do this on purpose?"
Sukuo was taken aback, "What?"
"Suosuo attempted suicide, what did you say to her?"
Her mind went blank!
After a few seconds, Sukuo found her voice, "I didn't know she was Chu Suosuo. She said she was your sister, and I thought she was one of your cousins, so I told her you were in the shower."
Gu Beixian's face remained cold, and he said nothing, opening the wardrobe and taking out clothes to put on.
After dressing, he walked out.
Grandpa Gu heard the commotion and came out to ask, "It's the middle of the night, where are you going?"
Gu Beixian said solemnly, "I have something to take care of."
"What is it?"
"Suosuo is in the hospital, I'm going to see her."
Grandpa Gu raised his voice to the guest bedroom, "Xiao Su, you go with him."
Grandpa Gu was decisive and didn't take no for an answer.
Sukuo couldn't disobey him and said, "Okay, Grandpa."
She dressed and left with Gu Beixian.
After passing a crossroads.
Sukuo said, "Just drop me off at any hotel."
Gu Beixian, holding the steering wheel, kept his eyes on the road, "Come with me, explain to Suosuo."
Sukuo felt a heavy block in her chest.
Although she was calm and unassuming, she had her own principles.
It wasn't her fault, so what was there to explain?
Sensing her displeasure, Gu Beixian took a hand off the wheel, rubbed her hair, and said softly, "Suosuo has severe depression, please, for me."
An hour later.
The two arrived at Chu Suosuo's hospital room.
She had just had her stomach pumped and lay in bed, her face extremely pale, her hair disheveled, and her body under the blanket thin and frail.
When Sukuo saw her face, she was greatly shocked!
