Chapter 6: Clarification

Xu Wei had come to this restaurant a lot of times to have dinner, and after thinking about it carefully, it was Yu Shizhou who had introduced this place to her. She was quite a hard worker, and most of the time, Yu Shizhou, as her husband, was very concerned about what she ate.

Yu Shizhou felt a bit better when they arrived. After he ordered food, he met two acquaintances—Su Jing and Wan Lijue—they also went out for dinner.

Coincidentally, I chose the same restaurant as them.

Yu Shizhou had a seat as soon as he came in with a previous reservation, but Wan Lijue and Su Jing came in just now.

Xu Wei placed the dishes she didn’t like to eat at the side of the bowl, and Yu Shizhou picked up all those dishes, placing them in his bowl. Then, he replaced them with what Xu Wei liked.

The more Su Jing watched them, the more she couldn’t explain it. Yu Shizhou had always been cold and reserved since he was a kid. When they were young, he studied even if the others were playing. When everyone was dating, he was still studying.

A lot of pretty girls chased him when he was in high school, but he didn’t care about them. He was such an excellent childhood friend that she was also moved. During those times, she was young and carefree; she even thought of confessing to him.

At that time, there was this girl who was in the same class as them. The girl liked Yu Shizhou for several years, but her confession during junior high school was rejected. Yu Shizhou gradually alienated her.

She realized that the only people that could stay around Yu Shizhou were all his genuine friends or people that he liked. She couldn’t get into his heart, so she settled for second best and retreated, thinking that he would never fall in love with anyone in his life.

Seeing that he was taking care of another girl as if she was his treasure, made her heart feel uncomfortable even if she didn’t love him. It was like looking at something that you’ve wished for a long time, but could never get. And here came a person who didn’t put much effort into it, but he or she obtained what you couldn’t.

But when she thought that Xu Wei liked Wan Lijue, and Wan Lijue never gave her a chance, Su Jing’s heart regained its calmness.

She wanted to give food to Xu Wei, but Xu Wei took the bowl away and said, “I’ll do it.”

Su Jing didn’t feel embarrassed. Xu Wei had an obsession with cleanliness, and even Wan Lijue couldn’t grab something from her bowl or put something in it.

“Xu Wei, the books on the website of your company are pretty good,” Su Jing said.

Xu Wei’s company ran a website. Although it was a private enterprise, it had cultivated many best-selling authors and was quite famous.

The company hired Xu Wei before finishing school. The salary was high, and the benefits were good. Otherwise, she probably wouldn’t work in the company.

Hearing that, Xu Wei casually nodded, and Su Jing continued, “My sister writes online articles, aspiring to be a writer. She signed with Moxiang.”

Moxiang Literature City Co., Ltd. was the company where Xu Wei worked.

“I want to ask you to take care of her. I think she’s an exceptional writer. Also, it seems like a great writer she likes is under your hand? If you take care of her, she’ll definitely be famous.”

Xu Wei put down her chopsticks, and faintly said, “If she writes really well, she’ll definitely be popular, and she won’t even have to rely on me.”

Su Jing slightly smiled, looking a little embarrassed. “It’s good to have people you know in the field, thank you in advance.”

Originally, Xu Wei wanted to say that she didn’t agree or promise to do anything, so Su Jing shouldn’t say thank you, but Wan Lijue beat her to it and spoke, “ Su Lan is passionate, but she’s still in college. Wei wei, just look after her a little, it won’t be a bother.”

Xu Wei smiled. “Come on, I said as long as she works hard and has talent, she’ll be popular. She can be famous without my help.”

Wan Lijue could see that Su Jing was embarrassed. He thought that it must be Su Lan who pestered her to ask Xu Wei for help. “Just look after her for a little. I’ll treat you to dinner later.”

Before she was married, she would ask him to go eat with her, but nine out of ten times was rejection. Xu Wei was disheartened, she could be very sensitive and delicate at times. She didn’t speak.

Yu Shizhou’s calm and gentle gaze was on her. Before, when he saw that she was unhappy, he would not say or do anything to prevent her mood from worsening.

Today, he pulled her hand under the table and gently squeezed it while talking to Wan Lijue about the changes in the stock market with an indifferent face.

His actions surprised Xu Wei, and she tried to grab her hand back, but his grip became tighter. Xu Wei’s heart was moved, and she no longer struggled.

After dinner, Wan Lijue accompanied Su Jing to the movies. Yu Shizhou and Xu Wei went home.

When she went to bed, coming out of the bathroom, she saw Yu Shizhou on her bed. He had already taken a shower and was sitting on her bed.

Xu Wei walked towards him. “What are you doing?”

He looked comfortable and calm wearing his glasses on the bridge of his nose. It added a touch of elegance to his handsome face. Yu Shizhou moved onto the next page of the book he was reading and answered, “To sleep.”

Xu Wei bent down, and lifted the quilt. She drove him away. “You sleep on your own bed.”

Yu Shizhou closed the book, and said, “This is my home and my room. My wife sleeps on our bed, not my bed.”

“But…” He used to sleep in guest rooms.

“No buts… we all have obligations and rights when we get married. I have fulfilled my due obligations and must exercise my reasonable rights.”

Xu Wei was stunned. They were indeed married, but there was someone else in their hearts. Is he trying to be a rascal?

He became shameless after they got married. She tugged at the quilt, and said, “I want to sleep alone.”

Yu Shizhou used this as an opportunity and pulled her in. “Wei Wei, you can’t sleep alone all your life. We just got married, but you won’t let me sleep with you. Do you want to divorce me?”

At first, she was not used to them sleeping in the same room and bed, so they sleep in separate rooms. Now, it was half a year, and it seemed this reason wasn’t acceptable anymore.

She didn’t know what he thought, but she liked someone else. If she slept with him, it would feel like she was being unfaithful to her love.

She turned to him, and asked, “Obviously, there’s someone else in my heart, but the person lying next to me is different. It would be uncomfortable?”

Yu Shizhou turned sullen, his heart sour when he thought that she was talking about Wan Lijue. He dragged her to lay down beside him.

“Since you don’t sleep together, it proves that you’re not for each other. It’s best to forget it as soon as possible. He also won’t cheat for you.”

Xu Wei was astounded, “Can you easily forget her?”

Yu Shizhou’s face darkened, she always said that he liked Su Jing. At first, he thought it was just a joke, but it turned out she was serious.

He held her face and looked into her eyes. “I have never liked Su Jing. She was only a friend I grew up with, you are overthinking.”

She felt a bit of self-satisfaction, feeling awkward, she turned away.

Yu Shizhou continued, muttering, “I used to bully her before, and you were the first to stand up for her. You often spoke for her, too.”

Yu Shizhou gazed at her, full of longing. Xu Wei only had Wan Lijue in her eyes in the past. She didn’t even look at other boys, and he had no way of approaching her. But Su Jing could get close to her, so he approached the former to increase his chances of meeting Xu Wei.

She must think he always spoke for Su Jing, but she was wrong. He didn’t do it for Su Jing. He couldn’t stomach seeing Xu Wei sad and angry because she always lost her mind whenever she encountered Wan Lijue and Su Jing. Yu Shizhou only wanted to calm her down, but he didn’t know she focused on the wrong point.

Moving forward, he should pay attention to this. From the beginning to end, Xu Wei was the only person in his heart. He was always indifferent to feelings and relationships.

Xu Wei and Wan Lijue were childhood friends, and she liked him for so many years. It made him boil with jealousy. If possible, he was willing to trade all his friends from childhood to now for Xu Wei.

If I only met her when she was a child, grew up with her as childhood friends, embraced her when she lost her loved ones, and said to her, ‘You Still have me, and I’ll never leave you.’
