“Ahaha… Obaa-san, you came… I didn’t slack off! I was just measuring the distance I had left and the best route to take, hahaha…” Although her legs felt like collapsing, Tongtong smiled innocently at Yuan Qiongshuang to strengthen her excuse.
One could see the other party had changed her clothes; her clothes were still purple but had more elegant patterns. There was a pair of birds which added a noble attitude.
“Who is Obaa-san?”
“Obaa-san is obviously you, duh…” Tongtong replied without thinking. She glanced at Yuan Qiongshuang, who stared at her for her to explain more. “Eh, well… In my home village, Obaa-san is a title for women. It’s like calling men “gentlemen”. An obaa-san is a beautiful and virtuous lady…”
Senior Yuan studied Tongtong, who was breaking out in a cold sweat, and snorted, “What a sweet talker.”
Her eyes softened although she criticized Tongtong.
Tongtong fake smiled and her heart sighed. All women like hearing good things, and it seems that this cultivator is no exception…
She quietly peered at Yuan Qiongshuang’s face and felt that, in fact, she really wasn’t lacking in looks- she had a very proper face, just that her expression required some work. Compared to those TV idols, her figure was hotter. Her height was a little taller than average, her front busty and her back perky, her chest must be size D…
Tongtong estimated her age to fairly young, around thirty years old. In her school, there was a math teacher known as the “Kill-all teacher” who had the same cold temperament.
Just as Tongtong lost track of what she was thinking, she saw Yuan Qiongshuang swiftly whip out her two slender jade-like fingers and pick up the stone boulder on the ground that had taken Tongtong half her life away as if it was an embroidery needle. “How many laps did you do?”
“Uh… one, only one…” Tongtong looked down at the ground ashamed as she raised one finger- only after she calmed her heart down did she notice that she had raised her middle finger- and hastily added a sentence; “There’s still one-third to go…”
What?! A good, model student should always be honest! Tongtong always thought of herself as a good student, but when Yuan Qiongshuang’s eyes flashed a murderous aura and made Tongtong swallow subconsciously, she quietly thought, actually, it’s better not to tell the truth…
“Two hours have passed; yet one lap you cannot last, huh?” One has to admit when someone spins a huge boulder on one finger, they look like a cool evil villain from some animated film. Ah, if only the boulder wasn’t swaying as if to greet Tongtong’s face in the next second, she would have professed her absolute loyalty to this person without hesitating.
But in this situation… she just wanted to retreat more and more, far away from this unmerciful, pitiless Obaa-san!
In her heart, Tongtong wanted to shrink away: this pitiful one is just a chicken-strength girl, okay? Simply lifting the stone is already an accomplished feat…
Yuan Qiongshuang coldly continued, “Did you think cultivation was child’s-play? Without perseverance and motivation to work harder, I suggest you simply give up cultivation!” Without waiting for Tongtong’s answer, she reprimanded, “Body refination is about exercising your body and strengthening your spirit so that all your meridians can be prepared, only then can energy circulate in your body…”
“Oh… so that’s how it is!” Tongtong nodded her head, putting on an educated student air. However, in her heart, she complained: Isn’t this just strength-based training? Even so, lugging around a large rock cannot compare to an actual training program! Why can’t we learn about cool sports like parkour? Not just interesting but also practical…
“I don’t care whatever you do, but if by tomorrow you haven’t finished ten rounds, don’t come here in the future.” Yuan Qiongshuang’s voice hung over her neck like death, “I can teach rookie students, but I will never receive coward students.” Without judging Tongtong’s mournful face, she flipped her sleeves and left.
A couple seconds later, Tongtong collapsed to the ground, frustrated. She lay there, one hand covering her eyes, the other under her head, bitterness overflowing from her eyes.
What exactly is cultivation?
What is the purpose of Self-cultivation?
All those questions were asked in her heart.
After a while, Tongtong suddenly sat up, clenched her right hand and pounded it into her left palm. “That’s right! Cultivation isn’t just for longevity, it’s to find the way! Self-cultivation is for eating sweet and drinking spicy, any path you take no one else cares! To do whatever you want, cultivation is needed!”
The more she thought, the more excited and eager she got, eventually pounding her chest with confidence.
All around her, the disciples staying in groups of two or threes looked at her as if she was a complete idiot.
However, three “pa- pa- pa” claps instantly cleared the looks from their eyes, wondering how to react.
“To do whatever one wants… well said,” said the clear, thin, and elegant voice not as cold as Yuan Qiongshuang’s. Two octaves lower, but made everyone feel comfortable.
Tongtong resumed her original posture and turned her head to see who talked. A pair of peach-flower eyes curved into crescent moons as if smiling. The face was delicate, but it made Tongtong feel a bit embarrassed to the point of wanting to dig a hole to bury herself- it’s better to lose face in front of the opponent a couple times.
“Ha, haha… you overpraise me, it’s really not a lot…” she pinched her hot earlobe, managed a stiff smile, and really didn’t know what expression to use at this moment.
“Look, it’s Brother Su…”
“Stop pushing, I already saw…”
“Ahhhahhahh, is he looking at me? Quick, how does my make-up look? Is there a flower?”
“So handsome…I’m going to faint!”
Su Yan pretended not to hear the chatter and expressed nothing. Behind him, Ji Ya growled threateningly as he pawed at the ground a few times. His eyes flashed dangerously and the disciples felt a sudden want to run away quickly. No matter how cowardly this made them look, they scuttled away; the more courageous ones could only step backwards to find a safe position where they could look at their idol and enjoy the gossip.
He considered Tongtong’s ashen dirty face and the large stone boulder beside her, and then took out a small jade bottle from his storage pouch, handed it to her, and quietly said, “Awaken the spirit, change the status.”
Stunned, Tongtong received the small bottle as all her logic went out her head: This jade bottle looks very expensive! Isn’t this Hetian jade or Yangzhi jade? Ah, who cares what type it is, this definitely isn’t some normal jade product!
–Wait, the other party has already saved her embarrassment once, then to accept this item without paying him back… Thinking to here, Tongtong’s eager eyes dimmed and she dropped her head.
Su Yan didn’t plan on waiting out her fierce psychological battle. After she accepted his gift, he withdrew his hand, flipped his sleeves and took off with Ji Ya without any dust in their wake.
Now only Tongtong was left fighting in her mind; Accept? Don’t accept? Accept? Don’t accept… what if, we just don’t accept, or else I’ll feel forever indebted to him!
–The most important part; let him know Tongtong is a girl with a strong spirit! Yes!
Tongtong made her decision and raised her head only to look confused; “Where’d he go?”
If she wasn’t holding the jade bottle, she would’ve thought what happened earlier was just an illusion, Su Yan was never actually there.
Alright, well now there isn’t any need to make a decision, the other party already left. So then she should just accept it. Tongtong’s eyes creased into a crescent moon as she smiled like a cat.
She pulled out the cork of the bottle and tilted the bottle. A couple round, lovely vermilion red pills spilt out and gave off a faint clear scent. As her eyes lit up, she felt she couldn’t hold back anymore and dumped it into her mouth.
Upon impact, the pill melted faster than chocolate and filled her mouth with a pleasant flavour. When she swallowed it, the liquid spread a warm current throughout her body and relieved any soreness in her limbs. Even the small cuts on her hands were healed… so magical!
She sprang up and tentatively heaved the boulder. This felt so much lighter and easier!
A cultivation pill!
Su Yan, you are a considerate person!
Tongtong clutched the jade bottle to her bosom and was so touched- the next time she saw him she must thank him!
She clutched the jade bottle in her hand and smiled as she began walking with the boulder towards the tree. In the meanwhile, the disciples left behind had began to form a circle of gossip.
“Did you see it, the Immortal Healing Pill- the red core! The pill given out once per every month to disciples above Foundation Establishment(1)… Brother Su really is generous…” This was punctuated with a sigh.
(1)- Foundation Establishment is the second stage in cultivation.
“What does that matter, Brother Su is already at Core Formation stage (2)and receives the most attention and care from the leaders. Obviously he would get more than just one, why so surprised?”
(2)- Third Stage of cultivation..
“Wow, that female disciple is really lucky, just like that she got the attention of Brother Su! It seems in the future no one can be rude to her…” This was said in a jesting tone.
One disciple laughed heartily.
Tongtong still didn’t know that Su Yan had given her an elixir and that this sort of item was precious to ordinary disciples, and simply thought that a spirit recovery pill had no effect on him. She only knew that after swallowing this pill, her entire body was filled with strength and energy, like how Popeye was filled with energy when he ate spinach! (3)
(3) – For all the kids like me who have no idea who Popeye is, Popeye is a cartoon character (1930-ish) depicted as a muscular sailor (although he doesn’t look buff lol) because of all the spinach he ate. Click here if you want more info.
The impossible original task that had a slim chance of success was made easier, and in her heart, Tongtong felt more grateful towards Su Yan.
Like this, she successfully completed ten rounds with a large stone boulder and was so tired she fell to the ground and didn’t move anymore- And the jade bottle? Completely empty.
