6 - Learning Magic

This continent is huge.

Many of them are not really habitable, and most of them are home to powerful demons.

In the past, that land was called “The Land of Demons” or “The Land Abandoned by God.”

But on the other hand, due to the vastness of the continent, there is also a large area for humans to live.

Several countries existed and little by little, they defeated the demons, cultivated the forests, and expanded the human territory.

One day, the king of a certain kingdom invaded one of the smaller countries with ambition.

From that point on, the era of human wars began.

Many countries fought and killed each other, some got swallowed up, some got divided.

Wars give birth to more battles, and it seemed to go on forever without stopping.

Then one day, it happened.

One day, a large country next to the magic land was destroyed.

It was not by the hands of humans.

It was by the hand of black demons, or rather, it would be better to call it a tsunami.

The black tsunami with the jet-black giant dragon at its head quickly wiped out several countries, but its momentum has never waned.

Ironically, the long battle between humanity was stopped by the hand of a demon.

The surviving nations joined hands to form an alliance against the demons.

However, the black tsunami devoured them as if they were meaningless.

The countries that had lost the power to fight back were quickly swallowed up by the tsunami, and the late country of Revelion could only wait for the destruction that was sure to come in near future.

–Just then, God descended.

From the heavens, God wielded his extreme light to extinguish the black demons and gave the people an oracle, slightly altering the world.

He said that he would send Malevito to the Kingdom of Revelion, a country that is nearly intact thanks to the nearby Misty Forest.

Some time has passed since then, and it seems that I’ve come to this place.

This is where the old man’s situation comes in further.

The old man was apparently quite famous for his fight against the black demon, and he was looking for an apprentice who could inherit his power and knowledge.

He even taught magic to a promising cat.

It was during this time that he heard about Malevito and cast his net through the kingdom.

Malevito existed long ago, and many of them brought knowledge and power to the people.

In fact, some books and ruins prove that Malevito was in this continent, Aruba, and on the other ones.

So the old man took notice of my talent and sent me the cat as soon as possible.

It seems that he intends to make me his disciple.

This was a great opportunity for me to gain knowledge from my predecessors.

According to Taku, the game is in a constant state of research, with various information not having been presented or analyzed at all.

The library truly is a treasure trove of information.

And naturally, I agreed to be his apprentice.

The first step is to sense the mana in the body.

I was sitting in the hall at the back of the library, Zen meditating, when the old man put his hand on my shoulder and poured mana into me.

Something warm entered my body, mana. I understood that there was something similar to that inside me.

I was taught that it was the magic power, the “odo”, that circulates in the body.

The old man smiled happily, and the cat looked at him with his eyes wide open.

The next thing I did was to train myself to manipulate the odo, which I did in the same way I move my body.

The next exercise was to release the odo. I was given a jar that was supposed to store magic power, and I poured my odo into it.

The next thing I did was to release the odo out of my body in the same way, and then I went straight to assess the odo outside and the magical power, the “mana.”

For the time being, let’s open the menu.

You can open the menu by saying it out loud or by thinking, “Open Menu.”

The contents were simple: Skills, Friends, Party, and Close Gate.

In the skills section, you can see the skills you’ve already acquired and you can also spend skill points to acquire or enhance your skills.

The friends section allows you to see who you’ve registered as friends with, and you can talk to them in friend chat.

You can have a party of up to six people, and the effect of having one is that you can share XP between the members, which is one of the reasons why summoning techniques are considered unfavorable.

Finally, there’s the Close Gate, which in traditional terms is like a logout button.

It means that you can log out of the game without using your voice.

Yesterday afternoon, when the four of us were leaving, we talked about what time we should meet.

Apparently, Taku had been a beta tester of the game, but all he knew was that what he was playing during the beta was an old ruin, and next is the city.
