Chapter 10

Cheng Yan and Huo Sheng didn’t eat much.

For Cheng Yan, it was because he was too embarrassed to line up, while Huo Sheng was a bit too busy with people talking to him that he couldn’t eat.

But Cheng Yan was in a good mood with inexplicable anticipation. After this ended, he can follow behind Huo Sheng back to their room as if he was leading him back home.

Of course, he knew that it was a triplet room, with Xiao Chen joining them from the administrative team as well.

He felt a little happy but also a little disappointed with the extra presence.

He was feeling relieved that there was another person that would make him cause a blunder, exposing his feelings. But if he thinks about it again, this was a rare chance to be alone and there might not be another chance again. After all, the project teams usually change a lot each year so he might not be as close to Huo Sheng next year.

But no matter what, a situation like this is already a godsend that he dared not dream of, so what is there to be greedy about, Cheng Yan wondered.

When he entered, Xiao Chen was already in the room. Besides, they call him “Xiao Chen” but he is actually smaller than Huo Sheng by a few years and older than Cheng Yan by a little1.

Xiao Chen was an old employee of the company but lower ranked than Huo Sheng who he has contacts with. Thus, he greeted Huo Sheng with a smile once he saw him enter, “Brother Sheng, sorry about that. There was just no room left.”

Huo Sheng smiled and waved his hand to show that he didn’t mind. After a few pleasantries, he turned around and went to take a shower. Only then did Cheng Yan, who remained, politely greet Xiao Chen, and then, not knowing what to say, simply sat down on the bed silently looking at his phone.

Both of them didn’t speak, making the room silent. Maybe after two minutes or so later, a vibrating sound suddenly spread through the silent room.

Both of them looked at each other because of the vibration, and Xiao Chen asked, “Is it yours?”

Chen Yan shook his head in denial.

Xiao Chen dryly laughed and said, “Oh, maybe it’s Brother Sheng’s.”

As he said this, the lock of the door just happened to click and then the person inside came out. Xiao Chen hurriedly said, “Brother Sheng, your phone’s been ringing for a while.”

Huo Sheng looked towards the bed. He saw the phone was vibrating again and he wiped his hair as he picked it up.

There was no other sound besides the magnified voice from the phone. Huo Sheng wanted to answer the phone outside but the person on the other end said something incoherently and then hung up, causing him to be between tears and laughter.

Xiao Chen looked at his expression and asked him as he was familiar with Huo Sheng, “Brother Sheng, is it from Xiao Man?”

Huo Sheng looked at him and nodded.

“Xiao Man’s already four, right? Is she attending school?” Xiao Chen asked, “She must be even cuter now.”

Now, even Cheng Yan is looking at him, then he heard Huo Sheng say, “Yeah, she has changed quite a bit.”

“But children are such troublemakers. Look at my son, he’s six years old, but once he’s at home, he can make you busy all day.” Xiao Chen said, “Oh right, let me see what Man looks like?”

Huo Sheng took out his phone and found a picture to show it to Xiao Chen, who immediately commented on how cute she looked.

Huo Sheng noticed him and took his phone back from Xiao Chen and gave it to Cheng Yan.

Once the lights were out, the room was in darkness.

Not long after, the silent room was filled with sounds of shallow snoring and steady breathing.

Cheng Yan couldn’t sleep. He laid on his side and looked at the other bed where a side profile was printed by the moonlight, unable to stop thinking about the little girl’s face.

He wondered that if his daughter is this good-looking, then her mother must be a very beautiful person. In an instant, he couldn’t quite put his fingers around what he was feeling. Maybe he was feeling a little bitter, and maybe he was thinking that this was for the best.

Cheng Yan wasn’t aware of when he fell asleep

The next morning, before dawn, he woke up to the sound of movements in the room as he wasn’t deeply asleep.

When he opened his eyes, the room was still a little dark. Huo Sheng’s bed was empty while snoring could be faintly heard from another bed.

He sat up in a daze, thinking about where he went with sleepiness, and then he saw Huo Sheng come out from the bathroom with wet hair.

He heard Huo Sheng whisper, “Did I wake you up?”

Cheng Yan shook his head and also replied with a lowered voice, “N-No. Um, why are you up so early?”

“I have a habit of ”

I usually jog in the morning at this time so I just woke up naturally.” Huo Sheng said, “Sleep if you’re still tired. It’s still early before it’s time for assembly. Xiao Chen’s still sleeping soundly too.”

“Then what about you?” Cheng Yan guessed that Huo Sheng was not going to sleep so he subconsciously asked.

“I’m going to go downstairs for a bit.” Huo Sheng said and then asked if he wanted to come along. Cheng Yan was blank for a second and then said no.

Although Cheng Yan refused, he also went downstairs sneakily, feeling sleepless, and took a stroll with nothing to do.

When he met a waiter on the way asking if he needed anything, he said he was fine. He waited until he saw Huo Sheng sitting by the window reading a magazine from a distance, and then he secretly took out his phone and pointed it towards that direction.

And with a “kacha”, a photo was automatically stored in the photo album.
