On this day, Merle pulled out the legendary enchanted sword.

“ Huh?” she thought. “Eh? What do I do now?”

She was just an average small-town girl you’d find anywhere. She did not look particularly muscular nor intimidating in her brown dress, and more so, the arm holding the sword is pale and thin. Even her waist-length black-hair was just like any other woman’s.

She can only stare stunned at the magic sword she’d just effortlessly pulled out. As she looked around, she found the crowds gathered here at the church plaza just as speechless.

The first reason was that Merle was a recent graduate of the Magic Academy, unable to hold down a stable job, and was only here because of a friend that had dragged her out of her home. The second was that the competition to pull out the magic sword was only supposed to be a fun event for this harvest festival, a means to test and brag about your strength, so no one ever expected it to find a new wielder.

And now, after so many years onto decades, the enchanted sword Levantine had an owner once more.

“… Did I miss something?” Merle asks.

Everyone stares, mouth agape, unsure of how to reply.

Without any other options, Merle decided to stab the sword back into the ground, the same way as before.

“This can’t be!” someone yelled. “This hasn’t happened in forever!”

The crowds began to murmur.

“There’s no way that just happened.”

“Even that muscle man earlier couldn’t do it.”

“Did it truly come out?”

Of all of them, however, Merle was in the most disbelief.

“Did you pull it out, Lady?” a man said as he stepped forward from the crowd. “Then that means I can do the same.”

He was a young man with short hair and a chiseled face. With his tanned skin and a sleeveless shirt, he stands with arms crossed to show off his muscular body. Compared to Merle, he’s got a physique that looks far more likely to pull an enchanted sword out of the ground.

The man puts his hand on the sword’s hilt. Surely it would come out for someone as strong as him, especially after a delicate girl like Merle had already done it.

“It’s already been done once,” he said. “Then, it should be easy… to… do it again…”

The crowds all turned their eyes to him. Despite all his heaving and his face turning red from the strain, however, the sword did not budge an inch. Eventually, he gave up, several other men stepped up to the sword, but the results were the same.

“There must have been a mistake,” Merle thought. “Even with such strong men trying, they couldn’t do it.”

So with that in mind, she put her hand on the intimidating sword once more.
