49 - Wedding Rush

3 min read696 wordsMature

How will Merle react when she sees the bouquet? As Lucille thought about it, her heart pounded.

She had put her thoughts into the flower language. She doesn’t know if Merle even knows flower language. But she doesn’t have to know. If she thought about it, it’s fine.

Lucille didn’t realize how naturally she smiled when she thought of Merle.

A bell rang as she was lost in her imagination. Lucille noticed she was passing in front of a church and when she looked behind her, she saw a bride in a wedding dress being hugged by her groom in a tuxedo, both laughing happily.

When she threw the bouquet into the crowds around them, a girl jumped and caught it.

“A marriage… how nice.”

She tried to imagine what would happen if she and Merle got married. She wondered if there would be two brides since they’re both women and began to drool.

Merle in a wedding dress would be the most adorable and precious thing ever.

–Could they be like that one day? Is there a future where Merle conquers the world as the Demon King? Hope overflows in her heart and doesn’t stop.

When Lucille returned to the castle, she saw Page and Ramiel.

Page was sitting cross-legged on one side of the throne. Ramiel sits on the other side with her back straight. The complete opposites united by their love for their hometown.

“Hey, Succubus! It’s been too long!” Page said as he waved.

“We’re thankful for the kindness you’ve shown us,” Ramiel said, bowing her head.

Lucille hides the bouquet behind her back, she bows slightly then takes her place beside Merle on the throne.

“It seems that the Old Man’s town has recovered significantly, and he came all the way here to thank us,” Merle said.

“That I did, it’s incredible,” Page said.

Lucille wanted to give Merle the bouquet as soon as possible; though angry at the unexpected guests, she forcibly suppressed her emotions.

“The town is likely to go back to the way it was before thanks to Her Majesty sending us supplies and doctors. They told us could finally travel outside the town again,” Page continued. “That’s why I have to thank you personally, Demon King, I couldn’t do anything less.”

“That’s wonderful to hear!” Lucille said.

Page looks curiously at Lucille. “… Did I say something wrong?”

“No! Not at all! I’m glad your town is back to life!”

Lucille said while in her mind, she shouted, “I want to give King Merle this bouquet and flirt with her as soon as possible!”

“Well… then, I suppose we should head back to our town,” Page said. “We’re going to build a new house and start a new life there.”

“Hmm, why is that?” Merle asked.

Page shyly scratched the back of his head.

“About that… I’ve decided to marry this man,” Ramiel said, expression unchanged but her cheeks red as she nodded.

“Huh?! You’re kidding! Seriously? I thought I saw something between you two from the start! When?! When did you propose?” Merle shouts, leaning out of her throne.

Beside her, Lucille was just as surprised and envious.

“It was last week,” Ramiel said. “He’s been taking care of me and I thought I would like to stay with him. If I wanted to stay with him, perhaps I should marry him?”

Merle groans. “Seriously, Old Man?!”

“Yeah, I’m hoping to get married and build the town back up,” Page said. “After I returned, the residents want me to stay and become the new mayor so I decided it was time to quit the mercenary business.”

“You’re getting married, going from unemployed to Mayor Old Man, you’re incredible,” Merle said.

“I didn’t want to betray everyone’s hopes and I want to develop the town, so I made my choice,” Page said.

“Hey, don’t let me stop you,” Merle said. “I’m jealous but have my congratulations still.”

Page laughs. “Thank you. What about you, Your Majesty? You got anyone in your life like that?”

“I do,” Merle said.

“Really?” Page said. “That’s even an even bigger surprise! Who and where are they?”

“Lucille, and right beside me.”
