The brothers of the mountain stronghold brought a coffin, and the five of them worked together to bury the fifth leader, Liu Kongkong. Without the heads of the devils to accompany the burial, no one had the heart to properly arrange the funeral. Now, all the bandits led by Tiger Race had only one thought in mind: revenge. Only with the heads of the devils could they honor their fallen brothers.
Fatso's words brought the three back to their senses; they had to carry their grief and seek revenge.
Jia Daode went down the mountain to find a wandering doctor to treat the injured; Tiger Race was taking care of the wounded brothers; and Yang Yun was leading the uninjured brothers to bury their fallen comrades.
As for himself, he led Monkey to the cave where the weapons and ammunition were stored. The weapons and ammunition he had brought back from the devil's No. 1 warehouse were neatly arranged in the cave, untouched.
The Type 92 infantry gun, the mortar, and these heavy weapons that the bandits had never seen, the heavy machine gun "Wild Duck Neck" which they had suffered from and hated, but no one knew how to use; the grenade launcher, which they had also suffered from, but still no one knew how to use.
Tiger Race led the bandits down the mountain to seek trouble with the devils and wanted to bring these "high-end" weapons, but since no one knew how to use them, they would only be a burden, so they were left untouched in the cave.
He started with the grenade launcher and the "Wild Duck Neck," as these antique-level weapons were unfamiliar even to Fatso, though he had some knowledge of World War II weapons from his military background.
After fiddling with them, he finally discovered that the "Wild Duck Neck" was not so bad; at least the accuracy of the heavy machine gun's burst fire was high, making it suitable for long-range suppression.
Fortunately, they only had five Maxim machine guns, and the combination of the two types of heavy machine guns provided good coverage for both close and medium ranges. The high accuracy of the "Wild Duck Neck" at medium to long ranges complemented the Maxim's firepower, forming a well-rounded fire support system. The only downside was the need to stockpile multiple types of ammunition, which was a bit troublesome.
Fatso clearly remembered that during the Pacific War, a few members of an American machine gun squad successfully killed nearly a thousand charging Japanese soldiers. The machine guns were incredibly effective.
Fatso was envious and wanted to form an invincible machine gun squad himself, to mow down the devils like cutting wheat, making them fall in droves. The thought of it was exhilarating.
The grenade launcher was a good tool, with a range of up to 200 meters, which was farther than a hand grenade. It was light and portable, and a single soldier could carry one along with ammunition, making it useful as a support weapon for the team.
The Japanese used grenade launchers in pairs to accurately target the Nationalist Army's light and heavy machine gun positions, which, although related to their training, also made the Nationalist soldiers hate them with a passion.
After fiddling with the grenade launcher and getting familiar with its use, he put it down and started working on the mortar. Monkey watched him with wide eyes, but the more he watched, the more confused he became.
Finally, he came to the Type 92 infantry gun he had brought back. The reason he brought this gun back was simple.
The Japanese Type 92 infantry gun had a simple structure, was lightweight, and could fire both high-angle and direct shots. It was perfect for destroying fortifications, knocking out Japanese tanks and armored vehicles, and was easy to move, requiring only two people to carry it.
As he was figuring out how to operate the Type 92 infantry gun, a special mark on the gun barrel made his heart skip a beat. This was...
"The sixteen-petaled chrysanthemum crest of the Japanese imperial family... Holy shit!"
"Damn... This is going to be a big deal..."
"Oh... And there's Emperor Hirohito's personal signature... It's going to be hard not to get rich with this... Wow..."
"Ahaha, you devils, with this gun in hand, watch me mess you up... I love this gun, hahaha!"
"..."
Fatso's sudden excitement and manic laughter left Monkey bewildered, but it was the first time he had seen his fat son-in-law laugh so happily. How could he not join in?
"What are you laughing at?" Fatso turned his head and saw Monkey laughing, a silly grin on his face.
"You laugh, so I laugh." Monkey thought it was a good idea to flatter his fat son-in-law, at least to avoid a few push-ups in the future.
"Ha, good, we must laugh today, laugh with me, with this treasure, the devils will start to suffer." Fatso's sadness over the deaths of his brothers in the stronghold was replaced by immense joy. From what he knew of history, the value of this gun alone would make Qianye agree to any of his conditions.
It was just a matter of whether Qianye would agree to some "impolite" conditions.
"Ha..." Monkey immediately joined in Fatso's laughter, even though he had no idea what his fat son-in-law was laughing about.
After they laughed until they were tired, they finally stopped. Fatso looked at the Type 92 infantry gun, thought for a moment, and then a sly smile spread across his face—bait to lure the puppet army commander Wu was ready!
"Monkey, go find a large piece of white paper and a piece of charcoal, quickly." Fatso urged Monkey.
Monkey nodded and ran out quickly.
The entire stronghold was full of illiterate bandits, but fortunately, the second leader, Sai Diaochan, had studied for two years in a private school, so there were some white papers in the house. Even though it was summer, the charcoal from last winter was still available.
Fatso took the white paper and placed it over the sixteen-petaled chrysanthemum crest on the Type 92 infantry gun, then used the charcoal to trace the mark onto the paper. Soon, the clear image of the imperial crest appeared on the paper.
"Son-in-law, you're amazing!" Monkey looked at everything in awe, his words a mix of flattery and genuine admiration and curiosity. His fat son-in-law knew so much.
"Whether I'm amazing or not, I don't know, but with this treasure, I know the devils will suffer!" Fatso said, then used the blank part of the paper to trace Emperor Hirohito's signature.
Monkey looked at the Type 92 infantry gun with curiosity, wondering if this thing was a powerful weapon that could wipe out all the devils in Qingzhou with one shot.
After finishing, he carefully folded the paper and put it in his pocket, then took out another cigarette, gave one to Monkey, and they both smoked as they walked out of the cave.
At night, Fatso laughed in his sleep many times. The bandits in the stronghold were all gloomy because of the many deaths of their brothers, but only he could laugh so happily.
The next morning, Fatso got up early. Last night, he had already asked Tiger Race to contact the sixth leader, Old Li, the puppet army captain he had kicked hard. They were to meet today, and he would start his plan to harm the puppet army commander Wu.
Today was also the day he had agreed to meet with Colonel Ma, who would bring selected Eighth Route Army soldiers for him to inspect, along with the five Maxim machine guns for exchange.
Fatso changed into a long robe, put on a hat, and dressed up. He took a twenty-shot pistol and led Monkey down the mountain. The meeting place with Old Li was in a small town called Lian Mountain, ten miles away, at a teahouse in the town.
