Wu Wengu's phone call was to his granddaughter, Wu Kexin, the community police officer responsible for Qinghe Road at the Hongxing Police Station. Although she was just a community police officer, Wu Kexin was quite well-known at the police station, and even in the district, partly because of her striking beauty and partly due to her connection with Wu Wengu.
"Although we are in the right, it's best to let the police handle this matter," Wu Wengu said with a smile, noticing Yu Lifei looking at him.
"I will follow your instructions," Yu Lifei replied, though he actually didn't want the police to get involved. Since he had already knocked the opponents down, he thought it would be best to leave quickly without attracting the police.
A few minutes later, a police car sped over without slowing down as it approached them. Yu Lifei was about to step aside when the car screeched to a halt, stopping right in front of him and Wu Wengu, less than ten centimeters away.
Just as Yu Lifei was about to speak, a female police officer stepped out of the car, catching his eye. She wore a well-fitted police uniform and a police cap, with a curvaceous figure that exuded a sense of vigor and sharpness, as well as intelligence and efficiency. As she approached, Yu Lifei noticed her neatly cut short hair, a broad forehead, arched eyebrows, clear and large eyes with long lashes, a delicate nose, and a small, red mouth.
Seeing Yu Lifei's stunned gaze, she glared at him, her anger evident. Upon recognizing his attire, her eyes showed surprise. Yu Lifei then realized he had been rude and took a step back, feeling embarrassed.
"Grandpa, are you okay?" Wu Kexin, without checking the two men on the ground, walked to Wu Wengu's side, holding his arms with concern.
Seeing her back, Yu Lifei suddenly remembered that this was the girl who had picked up Wu Wengu at the train station in the evening. In her police uniform, she had a different aura, like a peony and a lily, each with its own charm.
"I'm fine. It's those two on the ground who might need to be sent to the hospital," Wu Wengu chuckled. "By the way, this is Yu Lifei, a new friend I just met. He arrived in Tanzhou today."
"Grandpa, let me handle this. You should go home first," Wu Kexin said, finally noticing the two men on the ground. She then looked at Yu Lifei coldly and said, "Yu Lifei, you need to come to the police station with me."
Hearing that Yu Lifei had to go to the police station, Wu Wengu was a bit worried. Although Yu Lifei was not related to him, the fact that he had met him twice in one day suggested a connection. Moreover, Yu Lifei's actions had been quite forceful, and if the matter was pursued, it could become troublesome. Therefore, he insisted on going to the police station as well, at least as a witness to cooperate with the police.
Wu Kexin couldn't persuade Wu Wengu otherwise, so she had to take both him and Yu Lifei to the police station. The two men on the ground, who were unconscious, were sent directly to the hospital. They would have to be questioned after they woke up. At the police station, Wu Wengu was taken to an office, while Yu Lifei was brought to an interrogation room, where Wu Kexin and another officer questioned him.
"Grandpa, did Yu Lifei really take down these two men by himself?" After finishing Yu Lifei's statement, Wu Kexin was skeptical. Looking at Yu Lifei's slim and lanky figure, she couldn't believe he had such strength. The hospital had just called, reporting that one of the men had lost three teeth, and the other had lost five teeth and had a fractured left cheekbone. The force required to knock out teeth was considerable, and even a hammer might not achieve such an effect.
"Do you doubt my eyesight?" Wu Wengu said, displeased. He had come to the police station to ensure Yu Lifei wouldn't be at a disadvantage. Once there, he firmly stood by Yu Lifei, even though he hadn't seen everything clearly. Based on his experience, he was sure Yu Lifei had acted alone.
"If that's true, it could be a bit troublesome. The two men who tried to rob you are now seriously injured, and Yu Lifei will have to pay their medical bills. Additionally, if they press charges, he might be detained or even sentenced," Wu Kexin said, wrinkling her cute nose. She had already asked Yu Lifei about his background and no longer held his initial rudeness against him.
Regardless of who Yu Lifei was, he was still a young man who had just come from the countryside. The two men were clearly after money and had a criminal record, which made them more culpable.
"That's not acceptable. Yu Lifei was just defending himself. You can't expect him to cooperate with robbers," Wu Wengu said indignantly.
"These two are habitual offenders. Let's have Chief Ren talk to them. Yu Lifei will have to stay at the police station tonight and can leave in the morning," Wu Kexin said. She knew her grandfather had just met Yu Lifei that day, and although he was warm-hearted, she didn't want him to worry too much.
"Yu Lifei came to Tanzhou alone, with no family or friends. He's young, and it's not good to throw him into society suddenly. I've decided to give him a job at the museum. With his skills, he would make an excellent security guard," Wu Wengu said.
"That's not necessarily true. Being a security guard requires more than just martial arts skills. It's important to be responsible and, most importantly, to have good character," Wu Kexin said. Although she had just started her career, she was very passionate about her work. In college, Wu Wengu had wanted her to study history and archaeology, but she insisted on attending a police academy. This decision had almost caused a rift with her family, and her father, Wu Zhicun, was still unhappy about it.
"Does Yu Lifei lack good character?" Wu Wengu said angrily. The events of the evening had shown that Yu Lifei had a strong sense of justice and was skilled, making him more than qualified to be a security guard.
"Who lacks good character, Wu Lao?" Ren Jingtian walked in with a smile. He was the "Chief Ren" Wu Kexin had mentioned, the deputy chief of the Hongxing Police Station, only a few years older than her. His father had been Wu Wengu's student, and because of this connection, he was very supportive of Wu Kexin.
"Chief Ren, my grandfather wants Yu Lifei to work as a security guard at the museum," Wu Kexin said, looking to Ren Jingtian for help. In her eyes, anyone could be a potential criminal. If Yu Lifei caused trouble at the museum, it would tarnish her grandfather's reputation.
"Kexin, how many times have I told you to call me Brother Ren when there are no outsiders around?" Ren Jingtian pretended to be displeased but understood Wu Kexin's concern. He turned to Wu Wengu and said with a smile, "Wu Lao, Yu Lifei is skilled, but he's just arrived in Tanzhou, and the job of a museum security guard is important. Perhaps we should think about it more."
"I will discuss this with Zhicun," Wu Wengu insisted, confident in his judgment. He rarely made mistakes when appraising antiques, and he believed he could also judge people well. Yu Lifei's clear eyes told him that this was a kind and brave young man.
"Being favored by Wu Lao, this young man is quite fortunate," Ren Jingtian said with a smile. Seeing Wu Kexin's anxiousness, he waved at her and then said to Wu Wengu, "Wu Lao, since Yu Lifei will be working as a security guard at the museum, I think you should take him with you. Also, Kexin, there's no need to file a report for today's incident." For anyone, having a criminal record is not good, even if it was self-defense, as there are different types of self-defense.
"Kexin, see? You should learn more from Brother Ren," Wu Wengu said, finally smiling. Although the incident was minor, it could have significant implications for Yu Lifei in the future. For Wu Wengu, it was a small favor, but for Yu Lifei, it could be a lifelong burden.
After entering the police station, Yu Lifei had remained mostly silent. Even when Wu Kexin questioned him, he answered only briefly. He understood that if the police were serious, he could be in trouble. But because of Wu Wengu, his trouble had disappeared. This made Yu Lifei even more grateful to Wu Wengu, feeling that he owed him a favor. And the last thing Yu Lifei wanted was to owe anyone a favor.
