Feeling the pulse of life, and being buried not too deep, Chu Nan just needed to crawl out from a gap to escape.
Chu Nan felt invigorated. He had mostly superficial injuries, the worst being a large gash on his head, which had bled profusely, covering his face. However, the bleeding had stopped. Chu Nan didn't know how long he had been unconscious, but he felt a strong hunger, suggesting he had been out for a while. Yet, why was it so quiet outside? It seemed no rescue teams had arrived yet.
Given the magnitude of the earthquake in Jiangtian City, the entire country should be shaken, and rescue teams should have arrived immediately. Perhaps he had been unconscious for a short time, so they hadn't arrived yet.
While lost in thought, Chu Nan began to move cautiously, trying to crawl out. As for the strange dream about eliminating all humans, selecting the strongest, and only Adam and Eve surviving in a new world, Chu Nan dismissed it as a bizarre dream. His focus was on escaping and surviving.
The seventh cell was only one story, so Chu Nan wasn't buried too deep. He was lucky; the safety triangle had worked. As he carefully crawled out from under the concrete slab, he suddenly froze.
It was a cold, dark night, with a pale red moon hanging in the sky, like a blood moon. Everywhere he looked, there were ruins and debris.
Bodies, incomplete and mangled, were trapped under broken concrete and rebar, their exposed parts shocking to see.
Blood, organs, bones, and limbs were scattered everywhere, and some heads were mashed into pulp.
Chu Nan squatted down, hands on the ground, and vomited. His stomach was empty, and nothing came out.
Suddenly, he noticed a faint red light. Looking towards it, he saw a small magnifying glass stuck in the debris, reflecting the moonlight and emitting a slight red glow.
He picked up the magnifying glass, a simple one with a small handle. Just as he was about to discard it, he noticed a moon reflected in the lens, red and trembling, its light rippling like waves, quite beautiful.
"Ssssh—"
Suddenly, a faint sound came from nearby.
Chu Nan was startled and looked up, seeing a concrete slab nearby vibrating slightly. A hand emerged from a crack, trying to crawl out, covered in blood.
"There's someone alive—!" Chu Nan called out. This was the first living person he had seen.
He quickly pocketed the magnifying glass and ran over, shouting, "Be careful, don't move around, I'll help you." He feared that if the person moved, the concrete might collapse again.
The person didn't respond, just pushing hard against the concrete slab.
Chu Nan lifted one side of the slab, trying to help the person underneath. Suddenly, the slab shook violently and flipped up, the person underneath having incredible strength, easily lifting the heavy slab.
Caught off guard, Chu Nan almost fell over.
He quickly let go of the slab and saw the person underneath.
Chu Nan shuddered, his body trembling, and he took a few steps back.
The person's face was twisted, with a familiar scar on the forehead. It was "Three Eyes," the bully from the same cell.
Three Eyes was covered in blood, his face twisted into a strange, stiff smile. Chu Nan stared at his head, feeling a strange sensation.
Three Eyes clearly hadn't had Chu Nan's luck. His head had been crushed, half of his skull shattered, exposing white, mushy brain matter, some of which had dripped onto his face.
With such a severe injury, how could Three Eyes still be alive?
Seeing the white, mushy brain matter and Three Eyes' terrifying face, Chu Nan felt a chill run down his spine.
Three Eyes' face was stiff, showing no pain. He reached out and pulled out a bloody arm, putting it to his mouth and gnawing on it, soon covering his face in blood.
This scene was horrifying. Chu Nan was terrified, and a thought crossed his mind: Three Eyes was no longer human.
He stumbled back, turning to run, but a "ssssh" sound came from behind. He turned to see Three Eyes' terrifying face and his red and white, mangled head.
Three Eyes grabbed Chu Nan's shoulders, almost crushing his bones.
Three Eyes' strength was incredible, far beyond that of a normal person.
With a mouth full of blood, Three Eyes grabbed Chu Nan's shoulders and bit at his throat.
Chu Nan, in a panic, instinctively resisted, grabbing Three Eyes' head to prevent him from biting his throat.
Despite his desperate cries for help, there was no one around, only the cold, pale red moonlight and a gentle autumn breeze.
It was a terrifying, eerie night.
Three Eyes' strength was immense. Even with his head held back, his mouth slowly approached Chu Nan's throat.
Chu Nan kicked at Three Eyes' lower body, which would have made a normal person collapse in pain, but Three Eyes showed no reaction.
This confirmed Chu Nan's suspicion that Three Eyes was no longer human, though he couldn't understand why he hadn't died and become a monster.
From the murder by Li Feng and the false accusation to his detention, it felt like he was trapped in a never-ending nightmare. Now, after the earthquake, the nightmare had become even more terrifying, beyond his comprehension.
Everywhere was in ruins, with no rescue personnel in sight, no living people, only bodies and organs, and ... dead people turned into monsters.
Three Eyes' mouth finally bit into Chu Nan's throat.
The pain in his throat made Chu Nan's hands, which were holding Three Eyes' head, suddenly grab into his mushy brain matter.
The brain matter, like mud, was pulled out. Three Eyes, who was about to bite Chu Nan's throat, suddenly howled, lifted his head, and with a powerful swing, threw Chu Nan away.
Chu Nan hit a broken concrete slab with a "bang," screaming in pain, his body sliding down, his head throbbing as if it would split open.
"Ah—" Chu Nan, unable to bear it, clutched his head and rolled on the ground.
Three Eyes, with his brain matter scooped out, seemed to lose all strength, twitched his face a few times, and then fell to the ground, motionless.
Chu Nan's head throbbed intensely, as if it would split open. Suddenly, the pain turned into a burning sensation, like a wave of heat spreading.
A wave of heat also surged from his palm, traveling up his arm and into his head, merging with the heat in his brain.
Chu Nan looked at his palm in shock.
His hands were covered in the mushy brain matter he had pulled from Three Eyes' head. In the white brain matter was a small, red-brown, soybean-sized object. The heat wave had come from this object, entering his palm and flowing into his head.
"What is this? Could Three Eyes' strange behavior be because of this thing in his head? So, when I pulled it out, he stopped moving?"
As the heat wave slowly subsided, Chu Nan felt a similar, bean-like object in his head, hollow and with a thin stream of heat flowing through it.
This stream of heat came from the red-brown object in Three Eyes' brain, which he had absorbed.
Chu Nan was completely confused, even thinking he was in a nightmare. He bit his finger, the pain confirming it wasn't a dream.
"Could it be ... I've crossed over? Otherwise, even with an earthquake, this shouldn't happen. But ... looking around, it still seems to be the detention center, though it's mostly destroyed ..."
Chu Nan looked up, noticing the pale red moon in the sky, adding to the eerie, terrifying atmosphere of the post-earthquake night.
Three Eyes, lying on the other side, was motionless. Chu Nan, slightly calmer, decided to leave this eerie, terrifying place.
He took a few steps, but his right foot was suddenly grabbed.
Startled, Chu Nan almost screamed. Looking down, he saw a bloody hand emerging from a gap, tightly gripping his right foot and pulling him down with incredible strength, like Three Eyes.
"Who is it—?"
Chu Nan shouted, struggling to free his leg. Suddenly, the earth moved, and a mangled head emerged, biting into his leg.
Another mangled head, Chu Nan recognized the face. It was one of the eighteen people in his cell, a young man who had been arrested for theft.
His face was twisted and stiff, biting into Chu Nan's leg and trying to gnaw on it. Clearly, this person, like Three Eyes, was in a state of being dead yet still moving, another dead person turned into a monster.
