Relying on the surrounding jars, the two people could barely hold their ground. However, the remaining space for their movement was getting smaller and smaller, and soon they would have nowhere to run.
Although the two mechanical puppets were relentlessly pursuing the True God Cultists, it was clear that before the True God Cultists were all killed, Ji Ran and Anya would also be surrounded by them!
A group of frenzied Level 5 and Level 6 True God Cultists was not something the two of them could withstand. Even relying on their combat instincts, they could be completely torn apart!
Ji Ran fought back with all his might, but apart from the first attack which achieved significant results, the other two attacks were in vain—combat instincts made the True God Cultists dodge his attacks, and the fierce counterattacks almost prevented Ji Ran from escaping.
"No, we need to think of a way..." Ji Ran was drenched in sweat. If he activated his alchemical armament now, it would be enough to kill a few True God Cultists. But what about afterward? Would the two of them be at the mercy of the others?
"Charge to the back of those two mechanical puppets! They can serve as our shields!" Anya suddenly said. Ji Ran was enlightened and turned his head to look at the mechanical puppets that were chasing the True God Cultists.
"Follow me!" With a determined bite of his lip, Ji Ran turned around. With the help of a jar, he circled around and charged!
A short distance away! His lightness of body allowed Ji Ran to directly pass through several True God Cultists, but he did not completely escape their range. Flowing Wind! His figure became elusive again, and his long sword slashed toward those True God Cultists!
Instinctively, several True God Cultists immediately retreated to avoid Ji Ran's sword. This inadvertently left a path for the two of them. Although the opportunity was fleeting, Anya seized it.
Aurora enveloped her body, turning her into a small ball of light. Lowering her body, she charged!
With a swoosh, Anya passed through the path left by the True God Cultists and rushed to the front of the mechanical puppets. With a slight turn, she circled around to the back of the mechanical puppets.
Ji Ran followed closely behind but was trapped by the True God Cultists who had regained their senses. However, Ji Ran's agility was no less than that of these Level 5 and Level 6 True God Cultists. Charge! Turn! Jump! Roll! A series of dazzling movements often left him just escaping from various attacks, making the scene extremely tense.
Anya was on edge the whole time. But when she finally saw Ji Ran, though disheveled, manage to reach the back of the mechanical puppets, she couldn't help but smile.
"I didn't admit defeat when I lost to you, but now it seems that even if I reach the Silver Rank, I wouldn't have the confidence to defeat you..."
Ji Ran's clothes were tattered, and he had a few scratches, but he paid no attention to them: "Oh? Could it be that my beauty tempted you to hold back?"
Anya almost choked on his words: "Get lost! What I mean is, your movements are so agile. They even surpass my level!"
Ji Ran smiled slightly: "I have a specialty in swordsmanship in this aspect... Be careful!" As he said this, he suddenly leaped forward, grabbed Anya's waist, and pulled her to the ground. Then, the sound of a spell explosion rang out where they had just been.
"You two damned little rats are quite agile. But give up, you are destined to become sacrifices to the True God!" Morse, seeing that the True God Cultists had not resolved the situation for a long time, was clearly becoming impatient.
Once Morse focused his attention on them, it was impossible for Ji Ran and Anya to remain safe. Moreover, they were in even greater danger... A clear-headed Level 7 priest was far more terrifying than a group of frenzied Level 5 and Level 6 cultists!
The two were forced to flee repeatedly by Morse's various divine spells, looking extremely disheveled. It was easy to imagine that if this continued, they would inevitably fall to Morse's attacks...
"True God Cult rats, it's time to end this farce!"
Suddenly, a loud voice echoed across the platform.
Ji Ran looked up and saw that a spatial rift had appeared in the night sky above the platform at some point! Behind the rift, one could see the endless void, a deep darkness that seemed to want to suck one in. In the rift, Vice Dean Galant was stepping out!
As if there were invisible steps in the air, Galant remained motionless in mid-air. He wore a black robe adorned with runes representing fire, frost, and hurricane, which shimmered with a mysterious light in the night sky. In his hand, he held a curved staff. The staff looked unremarkable, but something held by a Gold Rank Great Mage was certainly not ordinary.
"Galant! You actually came out of the sanctuary!" Morse looked up at Vice Dean Galant, a rare hint of panic flashing in his eyes.
"I don't know what you were thinking, but trying to trap a group of alchemy masters with a mutated sanctuary spell... I wonder if you've sacrificed your brains to your so-called True God?" Galant mocked Morse.
Morse did not become angry, but remained quite calm.
"There was no other choice. If we hadn't been delayed for so long, we would have succeeded by now!" Morse gritted his teeth as he glared at Galant.
"Regardless, I'm out now, and you, for your True God, will offer your lives!" Galant glanced down and waved his staff, sending a large whirlwind from the tip of the staff.
The whirlwind suddenly disintegrated in the air, turning into countless wind blades that instantly flew toward the remaining True God Cultists!
The True God Cultists had lost most of their rationality, only their instincts remained. Seeing the wind blades, some gathered their aura or cast defensive spells, trying to withstand the wind blades. But the sharpness of the wind blades far exceeded their imagination!
In the next moment, blood and flesh flew everywhere. The True God Cultists were sliced into countless pieces, a far more tragic end than those killed by the large mechanical puppets.
Galant frowned slightly and casually threw a fireball down. The fireball split in the air and landed on the ground, igniting all the blood and flesh. Almost instantly, the ground was left with only piles of charred ashes.
"Phew, this looks much cleaner now. And that thing... it looks too disgusting!" Having eliminated the frenzied True God Cultists, Galant turned his attention to the Divine Messenger.
"The power of my god is beyond your imagination, Galant!" Morse suddenly laughed.
The Divine Messenger, who was battling the large mechanical puppet, suddenly stopped, its body contracting. It quickly shrank into a ball and then suddenly expanded!
The Divine Messenger transformed into a thin sheet, enveloping the entire square. Morse, Ji Ran, and Anya were all within its range. Galant's expression changed as he immediately raised his staff.
"Break!" A white light in the air directly struck the thin sheet of the Divine Messenger!
The white light pierced through the sheet and hit Morse. Although the white light seemed unremarkable, the magical energy it contained was extremely terrifying. Upon hitting Morse, it exploded, instantly enveloping his entire body!
Morse desperately raised his staff to cast a protective spell to resist the white light. But from the look on his face, he was clearly struggling.
"Desperate struggle!" Galant shouted again, waving his staff. A large mass of flames formed in front of the staff, eventually taking the shape of a firebird.
The firebird let out a high-pitched cry, lowered its head, and charged straight at Morse!
"Damn it, Galant, even if you are a Level 9 Great Mage, you can't kill me!" Morse's face twisted in a grimace, and he spat out a mouthful of blood. Then, he raised his staff again, and a golden light rained down from his head!
The firebird was blocked by the golden light. However, the heat from the firebird clearly penetrated the golden light and scorched Morse's body, burning his clothes and charring his eyebrows and beard. But even so, Morse dared not stop channeling his magic into the golden light. Otherwise, not just his clothes and facial hair would turn to ashes.
Morse spat out another mouthful of blood, raised his head, and smiled.
"My god is all-powerful!"
With these words, the Divine Messenger rapidly contracted into a ball and then vanished into the starry sky of the Tower of Wisdom!
"Damn! It's a monster with spatial attributes... and it used my breaking of the Tower of Wisdom's spatial seal to escape. That True God Cult priest is a clever one..." Galant frowned, looking at the devastated platform below.
"Those two children were taken by Morse... I must find him!" Galant waved his staff, and he was immediately enveloped by a swirling array of various magical runes.
"The traces are faint, and the range is large. But as long as you are within the Azure Wind, you can't escape!" Galant waved his staff again, and another spatial rift appeared in the air. He turned and stepped into the rift.
The platform inside the Tower of Wisdom returned to silence. The large mechanical puppets, having lost their opponents, wandered aimlessly on the ground. The two lower-level mechanical puppets, after circling twice, slowly descended the spiral staircase.
On the platform, only the glow of the jars and pipes and the characteristic hum of the machinery remained.
The bloodstains and black ashes on the ground slowly disappeared under the light of the stars in the sky.
