I ran towards my home at full-strength while feeling uneasy.
“Damn it, what’s going on!”
Gramps was unbelievably strong, but I wasn’t sure whether he could handle multiple wolves with each of them having instant-kill powers.
“—-!!!—-!—-“
I could hear screams coming from all over.
“Help!”
I heard a cry for help from the house lying straight ahead of me.
“Shit! I’m coming in!”
Walking to its front door, I shouted a warning. Then, I hurriedly found a glass which looked easy to break-in from, and broke it. I could feel human presences on the second floor. The wolves were difficult to sense as always.
“Oi!”
(Are they alive?)
“”We’re here…!””
I heard a weakened cry from the second floor.
“Wait for me!”
I ascended the stairs to the second floor in a flash, and barged into the room where I felt the presences.
“Kyaa!”
Seeing me covered in wolf blood, a girl who seemed to be from upper grades of elementary school, let out a small scream.
The girl was inside the room, and a couple which seemed to be her parents, stood in a way to cover her.
The man had an injured right arm, but even while distorting his face in pain, he kept a hold of the scissors in his other hand while maintaining his stance.
“This is wolf-blood.”
Relieved at hearing my words, the man relaxed his body slightly.
“More importantly, where is the wolf?”
As I wondered about that, the man answered:
“About that, as soon as my wife and I called our daughter’s name, she immediately turned the lights on in this room.
After that, the wolf became unable to enter our daughter’s room.”
“I see. In any case, let’s treat your wound for now.”
(What does this mean?)
Looking at the man’s shoulder, I walked closer to him.
“Yes, my apologies, I was bitten right before you entered this room.”
The man spoke weakly, while contorting his face in agony.
(Are those wolves weak against light?)
While bandaging him up with whatever I could find in the room, I spoke about my theory.
“I’m quite sure that those wolves are weak against light.”
“Y-, yes, that may be the case.”
The man nodded despite being confused.
“Ah, my name is Tanno Akira. We are grateful for your help. This is my wife Emi, and my daughter Marin.”
The man spoke in a rush.
“No, I didn’t do anything. I’m Yozakura Ritsu.”
“——!!——!”
All this while, the alarms continued ringing, and I could hear it becoming noisy in the distance.
“I need to find gramps quickly.”
I muttered while panicking more and more. Right then-
“Switch on all the lights in your house!!!!! Do this URGENTLY!!!”
A loud voice which sounded like it was from a broadcast flew into my ears.
“That voice…”
It reminded me of that police officer from before, but I didn’t have time to think about that.
Leaving the Tanno residence, I ran past the houses which were hurriedly switching their lights on, and headed back home.
“Gramps!”
As I sprinted back home, I felt relieved at sensing gramps’ presence in the dojo. Shouting loudly, I entered inside.
“What is it? Don’t be so loud.”
Upon entering, I saw gramps standing inside the dojo as if nothing had ever happened.
“Are you okay?”
“Where did ya’ run off to? I wouldn’t die by something of this level, but in any case, I’m heading to the Northern Police station to confirm a few things. You come too Ritsu.”
“Ah, yeah.”
I replied awkwardly. As I said that, the eastern sky started becoming brighter as the morning rays extended from inside the dojo to its porch, all the way to the garden, where it lit up the bodies of innumerable wolves.
I couldn’t see his facial expression under the shadow of the eaves. Only the tip of his sword, which reflected the sunlight and shone brilliantly.
