Fier's fierce expression finally dissipated as she followed her mentor, Mosido, and her senior brother, Zorro, into the laboratory.
Mentor Mosido's expression was now very poor.
Although to outsiders, Mosido still appeared cold and sinister, as a disciple who had followed his mentor for several years, Sain noticed some differences.
Fier, who had been with Mosido longer than Sain, was the first to notice Mosido's unusual state.
As someone who could be affectionate with Mosido and even ask for magical tools, Fier had never seen her mentor so solemn in all these years.
Zorro, the senior brother, who followed closely behind, also seemed to share a similar heavy mood.
Fortunately, the poor mood of the mentor and senior brother did not stem from Sain and Fier.
Looking at the two disciples who had been waiting in the laboratory for a long time and had already set up all the experimental equipment, Mosido sighed deeply and said, "Sain, I have already extended your college mandatory task leave for another six months. During this time, focus entirely on your studies and meditation to accumulate mental energy."
"Yes, mentor," Sain replied respectfully.
After instructing Sain, Mosido turned to Fier and said, "Fier, you should also settle down. You have been stuck at the advanced apprentice level for over fifteen years."
Mentor Mosido's words made Sain and Fier immediately serious.
"Crisis" and "change"?
What exactly happened?
While Sain was still pondering the meaning behind his mentor's words, Fier asked, "Mentor, is something about to happen?"
Fier's question and Sain's puzzled expression made Mosido's face even more somber.
After a long pause, he said, "This matter was originally only known to certified black mages."
"But since you are my disciples, I will make an exception and tell you," Mosido said solemnly.
"Starting three years ago, our airships sent to the surface for raids have been targeted."
"For the past three years, every time our airships set out, there have been corresponding certified mages and knights opposing us."
"Last year, there were as many as six attackers, which led Dean Dadalon to decide to suspend the airship raids to the surface this year."
"Early this morning, Dean Dadalon gathered the sixteen certified black mages remaining at the Black Magic Academy and announced the early exploration of a parallel dimension."
"Due to the suddenness of the announcement and the special nature of the spatial rift... the first to explore and help the academy set up the corresponding coordinate generator on the other side of the spatial rift will be you, the black magic apprentices."
The amount of information in Mentor Mosido's words left Sain and Fier unprepared.
Whether it was "parallel dimension exploration" or "spatial rift," these concepts were too advanced for them, mere apprentices.
Even the public library of the Black Magic Academy had almost no content on these topics, which were likely intentionally hidden by the certified black mages.
The attacks on the airships also indicated that there was a hidden enemy watching the underground world and the academy.
Are they surface mages? And those certified knights...
While Sain was still digesting this information, Fier, being straightforward, asked, "Did the dean decide to advance the exploration of the parallel dimension because of the airship attacks?"
"If so, why doesn't the academy just eliminate those attackers? They are only six attackers..." Fier asked.
The number of black mages in Morthosbra City is not small. According to Mentor Mosido, there are sixteen certified black mages alone at the academy, not to mention the powerful dean and other hidden forces.
The threat of just six surface mages and knights should not be enough to stop Morthosbra City from retaliating or even eliminating them.
In response to Fier's question, Mosido did not show any relief.
"There are only six certified mages and knights on the surface, but who knows how many more are hiding in the shadows?"
"The continent of wizards is not a place where we black mages can run rampant. The number of holy towers and knight halls here is vast..."
Mosido shook his head and said, "Once this spatial exploration is successfully completed, I will take you back to the Western Isles."
"Work hard. Although we need to borrow your apprentice strength this time, the first to enter the spatial rift will be at least quasi-mages."
"There will be no experiments today. Go back and practice well. I have some matters to discuss with your senior brother." Mosido waved his hand and said.
After leaving the mentor's laboratory, Sain and Fier lost their interest in their usual activities.
After a brief chat, the two parted ways.
Fier headed straight for the apprentice dormitory, while Sain planned to visit the public library.
He still had a lot of college credits, and although he had never seen many books on parallel dimensions in the public library before, a thorough search might yield some results.
"Planes, independent and complete worlds within the Astral Plane."
"The most common are demiplanes and shattered planes, while the rarer ones are fully functional planes capable of nurturing intelligent races and giving birth to civilizations."
"These fully functional planes are classified based on their power levels and overall strength..."
Sain sighed lightly as he looked at the torn edge of the page at the end of the book.
Putting away the ancient book titled "Micro Elements," Sain turned to another book, "The Travels of Marco Bo."
"The Travels of Marco Bo" recorded the journey of a certified mage in a certain parallel dimension, known as the Centaur World.
Although Sain could not determine the exact level of the Centaur World from the book, he could tell from the text that it was a parallel dimension completely ruled by the wizard world.
As a mage from the wizard world, Marco Bo enjoyed a high status and some privileges while traveling in the Centaur World.
He even had in-depth interactions with several female centaurs during his journey.
"Micro Elements" and "The Travels of Marco Bo" were the only two books Sain found in the college public library that contained some knowledge and information about parallel dimensions.
Other magic books, although they mentioned parallel dimensions, only did so in passing, with less useful information than these two books.
"Centaur, what kind of creature is that? From the description in the book, it seems similar to a minotaur?"
"But minotaurs have bull heads and human bodies, while centaurs seem to have human heads and horse bodies?"
Lying in bed at night, Sain couldn't help but fall into deep thought.
Lina didn't come back today, probably because the experiment at Master Ferona's place was in a critical phase.
Sain couldn't share the news he had just received from his mentor with Lina. Otherwise, with Lina's intelligence and knowledge, she would surely be able to offer some advice.
