Chapter 55

"Brother Sima, you need to be more careful in the future. It seems that the senior disciple harbors hostility towards you." Lu Tianyu immediately said with concern.
"It's nothing. A mere inexperienced brat is not even in my eyes." Sima Ye smiled faintly, as if nothing in the world could catch his attention. His calmness and confidence made Lu Tianyu secretly admire him.
Lu Tianyu knew that if Sima Ye were not astonishingly cultivated or had an extremely firm mind, it would be impossible for him to achieve this.
"Alright, Brother Lu, let's go up the mountain." Sima Ye said indifferently and immediately took the lead, heading towards the high mountain where the Flowing Cloud Sect was located.
Lu Tianyu nodded and followed. The closer they got to the mountain, the stronger the无形 pressure became.
However, just as the two were about to step onto the path leading up the mountain, the clouds ahead suddenly parted, and a young disciple of the Flowing Cloud Sect in a white robe quickly walked out of the mist.
"Are the two of you here to participate in the Flowing Cloud Sect's disciple selection competition?" The disciple gave a slight bow to Lu Tianyu and then asked straightforwardly.
"Yes." Lu Tianyu and Sima Ye nodded in unison.
"In that case, please stay in the nearby town for three days. The time to ascend the mountain is only after three days." The disciple immediately said slowly.
"Oh? In previous years, those who participated in the disciple selection competition would go directly up the mountain to stay, right?" Lu Tianyu immediately asked in confusion.
He had learned from Zhao Yunbing that all those who participated in the disciple selection competition could, upon arriving at the Flowing Cloud Sect, hold the Flowing Cloud Token and go directly up the mountain to stay within the sect, waiting for the competition to officially begin.
He didn't expect the rules to have changed this year.
"I'm sorry, this is the sect's rule. Please return and do not ascend the mountain." The white-robed disciple gave a slight bow, quickly stepped back, and once again disappeared into the mist behind him.
"Since that's the case, let's go down the mountain first and come back in three days!" Seeing this, Sima Ye immediately said indifferently and turned to head towards the nearby town.
About a quarter of an hour later, the two arrived at the nearby Flowing Cloud City. This city was a direct jurisdiction of the Flowing Cloud Sect, granted by the emperor of the Qinlan Empire. Everything in the city was decided by the Flowing Cloud Sect, and the city's rules were also set by the sect.
Even the guards at the city gate were several Flowing Cloud Sect disciples in white robes.
Standing at the city gate, Lu Tianyu immediately saw a huge stone stele on the right side of the gate, inscribed with the rules of Flowing Cloud City.
These rules were called the "Ten Nos."
No causing trouble or fighting within the city, violators will be executed without mercy.
No stealing within the city, violators will be executed without mercy.
No harassing virtuous women within the city, violators will be executed without mercy.
No littering within the city, violators will have their limbs amputated.
...
Each rule was listed in great detail. Lu Tianyu couldn't help but secretly admire. If this city could truly achieve these rules, wouldn't it be like a paradise?
Taking out their identity passes, Lu Tianyu and Sima Ye entered the city. After entering, Lu Tianyu discovered that this Flowing Cloud City was indeed different from other towns.
Not only were the streets incredibly wide and exceptionally clean, with no litter or dirt, but the people on the road all wore smiles, showing great warmth, without the coldness and hostility of the outside world.
Even the gates of the mansions on both sides of the street were open, and although the owners were not at home, valuable items were casually placed in the halls, yet no one dared to steal them.
On both sides of the street, there were countless shops, offering everything one could need, presenting a scene of prosperity and flourishing.
"This city is indeed very nice. In the future, once I settle down in the Flowing Cloud Sect, I must return and bring my mother and sister Lu Yi here to live in this paradise." Lu Tianyu secretly resolved in his heart. This time, no matter what, he had to strive to become an inner disciple, because he had already learned from Zhao Yunbing that as long as one became an inner disciple of the Flowing Cloud Sect, the sect would grant a property in this Flowing Cloud City for their family to live in.
This was also one of the important means by which the Flowing Cloud Sect controlled its disciples. If even their families were brought here, how could they dare to rebel in the future? Once a disciple betrayed the sect, the first to suffer punishment would be their family. This was one of the reasons why the Flowing Cloud Sect had the fewest traitors among the three sects, six schools, and nine major sects over the years.
Lu Tianyu, now penniless, had to borrow some silver from Sima Ye. The two stayed in an inn in the city, waiting for the three days to pass before participating in the Flowing Cloud Sect's disciple selection competition.
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, three days had passed. During these three days, Lu Tianyu and Sima Ye did not leave their room, focusing on cultivation and resting to prepare for the competition, hoping to make a name for themselves and become inner disciples of the Flowing Cloud Sect.
In the early morning of the third day, the two woke up early from their cultivation and left Flowing Cloud City together, heading towards the entrance of the Flowing Cloud Sect.
On the way, there were a steady stream of people, mostly young men, all dressed in tight-fitting clothes, with no weak cultivation. It was clear that they were all coming to participate in the Flowing Cloud Sect's annual disciple selection competition.
Lu Tianyu roughly counted the number of people and couldn't help but draw a deep breath. From the city gate to his current position, there were already no fewer than two hundred people, and more were still coming out of the city. It was evident that the number of participants in this competition was substantial, and the competition would be fierce.
Releasing his divine sense slightly, Lu Tianyu was even more startled. He couldn't detect the cultivation levels of the people around him, indicating that among those participating in the competition, he was one of the weaker ones.
This was not surprising, as the Flowing Cloud Token was usually only distributed to large and medium-sized families on the continent. A small family like the Lu Family, with only a thousand people, had no chance of obtaining it.
If it weren't for the fortunate encounter with the dying Zhao Tianxiao, Lu Tianyu would have had no chance to come to the Flowing Cloud Sect.
It was clear that most of the people coming to participate in the competition were elite disciples from large and medium-sized families on the continent, who had received various forms of support from their families. How could their strength be weak?
Lu Tianyu's heart became uneasy. After seeing so many strong competitors, his confidence wavered. With so many people stronger than him, could he really become an inner disciple of the Flowing Cloud Sect?
Seeing the faint worry on Lu Tianyu's face, Sima Ye immediately smiled and comforted him, "Brother Lu, you don't need to worry. Although there are many participants and they are all strong, you shouldn't undervalue yourself. I believe in you, and I know you can do it."
"Thank you, Brother Sima. I will try my best." Lu Tianyu immediately nodded, and his unease instantly disappeared. He decided to give it his all this time, and even if he failed in the end, as long as he had tried his best, he could be at peace with himself.
Taking a deep breath and with a calm mind, Lu Tianyu and Sima Ye followed the crowd and quickly arrived at the foot of the mountain where the Flowing Cloud Sect was located.
At the foot of the mountain, a platform had been quietly built, entirely made of green stone, three meters high, and large enough to accommodate a thousand people.
At the edge of the platform, several Flowing Cloud Sect disciples in white robes were checking the Flowing Cloud Tokens of the participants. Those without a token were immediately driven away.
Lu Tianyu and Sima Ye took out their Flowing Cloud Tokens and handed them to a white-robed disciple. The disciple input a thread of battle qi into the token, carefully checked it for authenticity, and then let Lu Tianyu and Sima Ye onto the platform.
"Where is your Flowing Cloud Token?" At this moment, Lu Tianyu heard the white-robed disciple behind him shout.
Turning his head, Lu Tianyu immediately saw a young man in a brocade robe being blocked.
"I am the young master of the Qian Family. Do I have the qualifications to participate in the disciple selection?" The young man was very arrogant, casually tapping his waist and taking out a Qian Family token, waving it in front of the white-robed disciple.
"I don't care if you are the young master of the Qian Family or the Zhao Family. Please show your Flowing Cloud Token." The white-robed disciple didn't even look at the token and continued to say coldly.
"My Flowing Cloud Token was stolen, but I really had one. If you don't believe me, ask your seniors." The young man immediately shouted loudly.
"Without a Flowing Cloud Token, you have no qualifications to step onto the platform. Please leave." The white-robed disciple immediately issued an expulsion order without mercy.
"Let me through, I have a Flowing Cloud Token, it was just stolen... Ah!" The young man looked past the white-robed man, towards the platform behind him, and his eyes immediately narrowed, staring intently at Sima Ye.
"It's him, he stole my Flowing Cloud Token." The young man raised his hand and pointed at Sima Ye, letting out a thunderous roar.
Hearing this, everyone on the platform turned to look at Sima Ye, but Sima Ye stood there calmly, a deep and unfathomable smile on his face, ignoring everyone's gaze.
"Master Qian, please be reasonable. You should know the rules of our Flowing Cloud Sect. Our annual disciple selection competition only recognizes the token, not the person. Since you don't have the ability to protect the token, what qualifications do you have to participate in the disciple selection? Please leave quickly, or I will not be polite." The white-robed disciple, without turning his head, sternly rebuked Master Qian.
"Boy, quickly return my Flowing Cloud Token. If not, when I catch you, I will tear you to pieces..." Master Qian immediately glared at Sima Ye on the platform and roared wildly.
"Take him away!" The white-robed disciple's face turned dark, and he suddenly shouted.
"Swish, swish" Several Flowing Cloud Sect disciples immediately rushed out from behind the platform, quickly subdued Master Qian, and took him away.
"Next!"
