Chapter 9: Red Cornfruit

Hereditary skills are techniques passed down from the previous generation, and they do not require learning later in life. Fire Fang is a technique that most Fire Fang Dogs inherit.

Although hereditary skills are innate, it's not realistic to expect a newborn creature to be able to use them. Everything has a gradual process of development.

Humans are born with the ability to eat, but they must start with drinking milk and teething.

The proficiency of skills starts at the beginner level, and the next stage is mastery.

Beginner-level skills have low power and are newly acquired.

Lower-level skills can generally be used once they reach the beginner level, but even at the beginner level, higher-level skills may not be usable every time, as they are not yet proficient enough.

Fire Fang is a mid-level skill. Logically, a Fire Fang Dog's Fire Fang should only be at the beginner (2/100) level, and it shouldn't be able to use it so easily.

But it did.

Jiao San speculated that as long as the skill is displayed in the Beast Codex, the Fire Fang Dog can use it.

Of course, this is all just her speculation, and it will need to be verified when the Fire Fang Dog learns higher-level skills in the future.

Jiao San withdrew her consciousness. Although she wanted to study the points issue further, it was clearly not the time for that.

She saw the young troublemaker still sitting on the ground, the Mohwei Fox covered in injuries, with blood still on its neck.

Jiao San took out her phone and dialed 661.

"Hello, is this the Beast Emergency Center? I'm at the Hanggang Beast Center, and I have an injured Mohwei Fox. Could you please come as soon as possible?"

"Has someone already called? Oh, then it's fine."

Jiao San hung up the phone and ignored the dazed girl. She picked up the Fire Fang Dog and prepared to go home, but when she turned around, she saw a group of people standing behind her.

Humans love to watch a spectacle. In the time it took for the fight, most of the people in the area had gathered, and some were even filming with their phones.

Jiao San's scalp tingled. She picked up the Fire Fang Dog and walked away, with the Fat Dove following closely behind.

"A little girl, you seem to have a lot of potential. Are you interested in being a streamer?" A young man with red hair approached her.

"Thank you, but no." Jiao San walked around him.

"Can I have a pet battle with you?" A boy wearing a cap followed her.

"No." Jiao San refused.

"Student, which school are you from?" An aunt asked with concern.

Jiao San: "..."

...

...

Jiao San returned home, and her mother was not there, but on the dining table was a bag of Red Cornfruit, which fire-type pets love to eat.

These fruits, which can enhance the constitution of fire-type extraordinary beings, cost 700 League Coins each. They can be eaten occasionally, but eating them every day would be too expensive.

Jiao San stared at the Red Cornfruit for a while.

She picked one up and offered it to the Fire Fang Dog, smiling. "You eat it."

The Fire Fang Dog sniffed it with its nose. It had only eaten the compressed blocks provided at the pet center and had never tasted this before.

It smelled good and looked similar to the fruit on the tree near its previous home, just a different color. Unfortunately, it never got to eat the fruit from that tree.

The Fire Fang Dog no longer hesitated and swallowed the Red Cornfruit in one bite.

"Fang!"

The Fire Fang Dog's eyes widened in surprise.

This food is so delicious!

Seeing it finish, Jiao San's consciousness returned to the Beast Codex.

【Name: Fire Fang Dog】

【Attribute: Fire】

【Level: Beginner (63/1000) +】

【Skills: Bite (Beginner 73/100) +, Tackle (Mastery 135/500) +, Fire Fang (Beginner 2/100) +】

【Points: 50】

Nothing changed.

Jiao San frowned. It shouldn't be like this. After today's battle, the values changed, indicating that the Fire Fang Dog had made progress.

Eating Red Cornfruit, which can enhance the constitution of fire-type extraordinary beings, should have had some effect.

Perhaps it needs time to digest?

"Fang!"

The Fire Fang Dog reached out a paw and tugged at Jiao San's hand.

Jiao San smiled, took out another Red Cornfruit, and fed it to the Fire Fang Dog.

The Fire Fang Dog immediately swallowed it.

After it finished, Jiao San's consciousness connected to the Beast Codex again.

【Name: Fire Fang Dog】

【Attribute: Fire】

【Level: Beginner (64/1000) +】

【Skills: Bite (Beginner 73/100) +, Tackle (Mastery 135/500) +, Fire Fang (Beginner 2/100) +】

【Points: 50】

It changed!

The level went from Beginner (63/1000) + to Beginner (64/1000) +!

Although it only increased by one point, it proved her guess was correct!

However…

Jiao San looked at the four remaining Red Cornfruits on the table, hesitated for a moment, and then picked one up and offered it to the Fire Fang Dog again.

The Fire Fang Dog held the Red Cornfruit with its front paws and started to gnaw on it.

It had already eaten two, and the third one couldn't be swallowed in one bite, so it had to eat it bit by bit.

After finishing, it patted its belly contentedly.

Jiao San's consciousness connected to the Beast Codex, and she fell into deep thought.

The values didn't change.

Perhaps two Red Cornfruits are needed to increase one point?

Jiao San picked up another Red Cornfruit and offered it to the Fire Fang Dog.

"Fang."

The Fire Fang Dog patted its belly, indicating it was full.

"Good, just one more." Jiao San patted its head.

The Fire Fang Dog looked at Jiao San, wagged its red tail, and started to eat again.

In the Beast Codex, Jiao San saw that the Fire Fang Dog's level had changed to Beginner (65/1000) +.

Her guess was correct; indeed, two Red Cornfruits increase one point.

Jiao San's gaze fell on the points at the bottom, and she mentally added all 50 points to the Beginner (65/1000) + level.

【Name: Fire Fang Dog】

【Attribute: Fire】

【Level: Beginner (115/1000) +】

【Skills: Bite (Beginner 73/100) +, Tackle (Mastery 135/500) +, Fire Fang (Beginner 2/100) +】

【Points: 0】

The values really increased…

Jiao San's breathing quickened.

One Red Cornfruit costs 700 League Coins, so two Red Cornfruits cost 1400 League Coins.

1400 League Coins for one point, and with 885 points remaining, that's equivalent to 1770 Red Cornfruits.

That means…

1,239,000 League Coins…

Wow! That's enough to buy a psychic-type pet!

Jiao San almost shouted in excitement.

This points system can directly increase strength, which means she has saved so much money! Moreover, the Fire Fang Dog can increase its values through both battles and eating strength-enhancing items!

With the addition of points, she can train the Fire Fang Dog to become a mid-level pet three to four times faster than others!

What else could this be but a golden finger!

After a few seconds, Jiao San took out her phone and searched for all topics related to the Beast Codex. As expected, none of them mentioned her situation.

And spontaneous awakeners only have a 3% to 6% higher brain development compared to those who awaken later, allowing them to awaken the Beast Codex faster and have a better chance of reaching higher levels, but there's nothing particularly special about them otherwise.

Jiao San calmed down.

She had already had a hunch, and now it was just confirmed. Besides, she had already traveled through time, so having a golden finger wasn't particularly special.

Right.

Nothing particularly special…

The Fire Fang Dog looked up at Jiao San, its eyes full of confusion.

Why is her Beast Master smiling at the air?
