I'm writing while fighting off drowsiness.
Winter futons are so cozy and wonderful.
“Lana, Monica...”
““...Yes?””
Not being able to use a knife = not being able to participate = not getting a reward. The thought of this made the two of them lack energy. Rina couldn’t help but smile wryly at their obvious disappointment.
“How many off-duty maids can we gather?”
“...Considering some might be out... maybe around 10?” Lana answered thoughtfully. If she had mentioned it the day before, they might have been able to gather more.
“...10, huh?”
“What do you want to do with them?” Monica asked, clearly curious about what Rina was planning.
“I could make some sweets for them—”
““What do we need to do!?””
Before Rina could finish, Lana and Monica immediately perked up. Sweets were irresistible.
“Go pick some Cuckberries.”
There were plenty of ripe ones, and it would be a waste to let them rot. However, Rina alone had her limits, so she thought it would be a good idea to get them as a reward.
“Sure!!”
“If we get to make sweets, I’m worried that the on-duty maids might notice and cause trouble...”
Monica agreed readily, but Lana voiced her concern. Picking berries together would draw attention, and if they figured out something was up, it could lead to arguments.
“For the on-duty maids, how about—”
Rina thought about what to do. It was impossible to include all the maids. Not only would the quantity be an issue, but the maids who helped would be upset if those who didn’t do anything got rewards.
“What about a rock-paper-scissors tournament to decide a few winners? Those who couldn’t help can just accept that they weren’t off-duty.”
Otherwise, it would be endless. If she didn’t give out rewards, they might keep asking to help with various tasks. It was a compromise.
“...Yeah... That sounds good. Monica, let’s go right away.”
“Sure thing. I’ll do my best, Rina!!”
With the reward secured, the two of them left the kitchen in high spirits.
