With a degree in broadcasting, she could speak English very well. But she had little opportunity to open her mouth; after all, she wasn’t familiar with construction and business terms.
While talking about their work, Su Qiuzi also listened to Cherry talk a bit about her family. She had always been a strong woman and, after graduating from her PhD, she was currently working as an executive in a tourism company. Because of her work, she didn’t consider her personal issues until very late. She married her husband only a few years ago and had just given birth to a child this year.
She was a very career-oriented woman with an elitist atmosphere around her. Su Qiuzi’s personal preference was also towards her career. Although she was already married to He Yu, her work was still uppermost in her heart.
Career was a woman’s second life. She and Cherry’s views were very much in sync, and the two also had a few chats. Later on, as the conversation at the banquet turned to work, in case she was bored, Cherry took the initiative to invite her to see her daughter.
Cherry’s daughter was in the crib, with a nanny there to watch over her. After bringing Su Qiuzi over, she held her daughter in her arms and had a few laughs with Su Qiuzi, then left the room.
The baby’s room was set up cozily, slightly warmer than outside with a milky scent to it. The tiny baby in the cradle was extraordinarily cute, with green eyes, white skin and long curly blonde hair, much like a doll.
It was the first time Su Qiuzi had ever observed a baby so closely. She engaged the nanny in conversation about taking care of the kids. The nanny was a chubby woman in her fifties, who was very amiable as she patiently chatted with her.
After asking for the nanny’s consent, Su Qiuzi held the baby in her arms. The baby was good natured and didn’t cry when held by a stranger. She picked her up and the little toddler’s arms waved and played with her hair.
Su Qiuzi smelled the scent of milk, and with a soft baby in her arms, her heart became soft.
She wasn’t sure if she’d be this soft later when she had kids. Well, she wouldn’t be having kids in these recent years, but not as late as Cherry, either. He Yu was older than her and she still had to attend to his needs.
If it was before, she might have thought that she and He Yu wouldn’t have children because they didn’t know when they would divorce. But after spending some time with him recently, Su Qiuzi’s heart gradually settled down. She had a sense of confidence and security in her heart, all of which was given to her by He Yu.
She might really be married to him for the rest of her life. They would live together, raise children together, and then grow old together in the future. If she did have children, it would be better for them to look like He Yu, who looked much better than her.
In the midst of thinking, the baby room’s door opened. Su Qiuzi looked up to see He Yu standing in the doorway looking at her. He took off his jacket, revealing a black turtleneck sweater on top. His figure was straight and slender and the gentle light struck the outline of his features, making them appear extraordinarily deep.
Once Su Qiuzi saw him coming in, she smiled and asked, “Do you think the baby is pretty?” When she finished, she saw He Yu just standing in the doorway and added, “Come over here and look.”
He Yu did not move. His brows were slightly furrowed and his long, curved eyelashes created some shadows below his eyelids. Raising his eyes, he gave her a gentle look and, with a gentle smile, he said, “I’ve just drunk some, it’s not good for the baby.”
He Yu was a very self-controlled person and would usually drink at dinner parties, but only to an extent; however, today he seemed to have indulged a little. He stood there, his voice sounding low and hoarse, as mellow and intoxicating as wine.
When he said that he couldn’t go over to look, Su Qiuzi’s eyes flashed with regret, but then the baby grabbed her hair to keep her attention on it. She smiled, wide enough to curve her eyes that were brown like a quiet lake under the moon, reflecting the cool moonlight.
“Qiuzi.” He Yu called her.
“Huh?” The young woman returned to her senses and looked at him.
“Come here.” With a slight movement in his throat, He Yu smiled slightly, all tenderness in his eyes and he said, “I want to kiss you.”
The nanny had just left, and there were only them and the baby in the baby room. The warm wind blew into the room, bringing the fragrance of milk. Su Qiuzi was stunned for a moment, then she raised her eyes to look at her husband. She felt a tickling like snowflakes were falling on her heart, and it was sweet after they melted.
She put the baby down, walked to He Yu’s side, looked at him with a smile, and said, “I’m here.”
