Next to him, Su Qiuzi was quiet and listened to Li Fa finish, she remarked, “For every grievance someone is responsible, for every debt there is a debtor. he knew that it was that mistress and his father that caused the tragedy to him and his mother, not taking revenge on others, his mind is still quite clear.”

“It was originally the fault of his father and that mistress, who else could he take revenge on?” Xu Siru looked at Su Qiuzi and asked.

Li Fa poured her some tea, which was a little hot. Su Qiuzi was refreshed by the hot feeling of her fingers through the glass. She smiled and said, “I just said this casually.”

As the few of them continued voicing out their comments, the waiter bringing the grilled barbecue arrived. The door opened and a wave of heat came in, Lao Meng received the food, then got up to close the door. When closing the door he saw a table of people not far away, he turned back and said to the three people in the booth, “I saw an acquaintance, the Criminal Police Third Squad, I’ll go over and say hello, you guys eat first.”

Now that it was dinner time, the people in the booth were indeed getting hungry. As soon as Lao Meng left, Li Fa spread the word for the two young girls to eat and even recommended this restaurant’s braised beef ribs to Su Qiuzi.

Su Qiuzi enjoyed barbecue quite a bit, in college, when she and her friends gathered in the summer, they usually chose the barbecue restaurant. This barbecue restaurant was her first time here, but it was quite to her taste. After she thanked Li Fa, she received the braised beef ribs and started to eat.

Just after eating two skewers, her phone vibrated and when she took it out, Su Qiuzi’s eyes curled and said to Li Fa and Xu Siru, “My husband’s calling, I’m going out to answer it.”

Then she got up and went out of the booth.

The air-conditioner was on inside the booth, but the heat outside was so intense. It was now past six in the evening and the sun was radiating its remaining heat, baking the entire city.

Su Qiuzi went out of the booth and raised her eyes to sweep up Lao Meng. Lao Meng was at the table where there were five or six people at the Criminal Police squad’s table. The table was piled high with beer and barbecue, and Lao Meng, who came from a criminal police background, sat among them without any sense of disposition.

Most of the people at the table were in their thirties, only one looked to be in his twenties. He sat next to Lao Meng, tall, wearing an official green T-shirt that showed off his yellow skin and tightly muscled arms. He had buzz-cut hair, fresh and clean, a cigarette between his fingers, as he listened to what Lao Meng was saying. When the side of his face was turned, his jawline was firm yet smooth and he looked more like a soldier than a detective.

“Xiao Su.” Lao Meng saw her and called out to her.

When he called, the man beside him also looked up. There seemed to be a case being discussed on the table and when he turned his head, there was still undissipated ponderings between his handsome brows. In the meantime, his eyebrows were formed into a Sichuan character “川”, seemingly both firm and wise.

Su Qiuzi smiled and nodded her head to Lao Meng, but then she smiled at the cadre of detectives on the table, then she answered the phone with a soft chuckle and called tenderly.

“Husband!”

The girl’s voice wasn’t loud, but her single word still drifted to the table, the group of people at the table had returned to their senses, while the man next to Lao Meng looked at Su Qiuzi’s back and took a long drag on his cigarette.

It’s almost seven o’clock in China now, in Christchurch it should be eleven o’clock in the morning. He Yu had just finished his busy work. He was much more busy today, he didn’t even have time to talk to Su Qiuzi over WeChat, so before going to bed, he simply made a phone call.

“Did you sleep well last night?” He Yu’s voice was hoarse, faintly sounding weary. The lights in the room were on, the window was dark, standing in front of the window, he reached out and hooked his tie, after unbuttoning his collar, sat down on the single sofa by the bedroom window.

The room was warmly lit, slightly dark, while the man in the couch pinched his brow, his handsome features were covered in a dark shadow by the light, making him even more refined and sharp.

On the other end of the phone, the girl replied that she had a good night’s sleep and that she hadn’t had any more nightmares from last night.

“Do you know why I didn’t have any nightmares?” The girl said cheerfully, “Because I think about you every day before I go to bed, so the dreams I have are really soft and sweet.”
