Why am I even a history teacher?
I, Alternia Karchess, have always been dissatisfied.
I should be working as a mage in the royal palace by now.
There’s no way my skills should have let me fall.
The only reason I can think of is that I was born into a baron’s family.
As proof, the current royal palace mages come from the earl’s family, the parents of Kyle.
I cursed my birth.
I should at least be teaching magic at a prestigious academy for nobles.
There’s no way my skills should have let me fall, yet for some reason, I’m teaching history.
What was most humiliating was that Alusha, who teaches magic, is also from a baron’s family.
Damn it. If we’re of the same status, there’s no way I should lose to her.
Why am I even a history teacher?
In the midst of this life filled with complaints, I dismissed Alice Surface’s question during class as trivial.
However, later on, that question made me realize a significant misunderstanding in my understanding of history.
A fatal error for a history teacher.
I was already tired of my complaint-filled life, but the thought of being denied my position as a history teacher was an unbearable pain.
Damn it.
After that, I only thought about how to belittle Alice Surface.
Learning that the prince and Kyle were planning to commit a crime at the dance party was a coincidence.
Their plan was a tempting, irresistible lure, like sweet honey.
If it went well, Alice would lose everything, and even if it failed, she would be hurt enough to not be able to come back to the academy.
I offered my cooperation to the prince and Kyle.
Dane, the commoner, was genuinely happy to have me, a teacher, on their side, but the prince and Kyle didn’t seem to care much.
This only further irritated me, and my anger was directed at Alice.
For some reason, the prince strongly advised Kyle to set up a light magic barrier.
While I didn’t feel it was necessary, the idea of a barrier that even Alusha, who teaches magic, couldn’t break seemed like a good plan. That idealistic teacher would surely come to Alice’s aid. If she found herself unable to break the barrier, she might lose confidence and quit her job.
Serves her right.
The plan at the dance party went off without a hitch.
Alice cried.
When I heard that Alice would be taking a leave of absence from the academy, I thought I had won.
I finally won in my own life.
What I didn’t expect was that the archaeology teacher, Michael, approached me before Alusha.
“I despise you!”
What a bratty, damn girl.
I ignored her and went to my class.
When I entered the classroom, the girls who usually scream when I come in and the boys who chatter about trivial things were all sitting in silence.
“What’s going on? Everyone is so quiet today.”
No student responded to my question as a teacher.
During class, no one answered when I called on them.
In every class, no one.
Even though Alice was gone.
I was always dissatisfied, but at least the students used to listen to my lectures.
No matter who I am, as long as I’m a teacher, the students should listen to my lectures.
In the end, I continued my lectures for five hours, with no one listening.
Even as a history teacher, as long as there are students who listen to my lectures, I should be a teacher.
Why can’t I even be a history teacher anymore?
