Chapter 8

2 min read470 words

Mother passed away giving birth to me.

But Father showered me with love, making up for Mother’s absence.

Because of this, I never once felt lonely as a child.

When Father was busy, Karina the maid, the butler, the chef, and everyone in the mansion were always there for me.

I knew how special this was and how blessed I was, to the point of being grateful to God, so I decided from the time I was old enough to understand that I would do everything I could for the Duke’s family.

At the age of eight, when I was invited to a tea party to decide the Prince’s fiancée, Father didn’t say anything, but I thought that if I could become the fiancée, it would be an honor for Father. So, I hoped I could become the fiancée.

However, on the day of the tea party, I got lost in the palace for the first time.

I had lost Karina at some point and found myself surrounded by greenery like a forest, which made me cry from anxiety.

“... What’s wrong?”

The boy appeared at that moment.

With his golden, wavy hair and deep blue eyes, I think I fell in love with him the moment I saw him.

“Where am I? I’m scared.”

Fear overcame my infatuation, and my tears wouldn’t stop.

The boy was at a loss with my incessant crying.

“It’s okay. There’s nothing to be afraid of. You came for the tea party, right? I’ll take you there right away.”

The boy’s earnestness calmed my fear, but since I had never cried before, I didn’t know how to stop the tears once they started.

The boy, at a loss with my crying, took a deep breath and looked at me.

“I’ll cast a spell to cheer you up!”

“A spell?”

“Yes! My special spell!”

As he said this, he raised his hand, and a small rainbow appeared before me.

I was amazed by this miracle.

“Wow! Wow! Are you a magician?”

The boy looked surprised by my sudden smile but soon smiled kindly at me.

“I’m glad you’re smiling.”

At the same time as the boy’s words, I heard Karina’s frantic voice from a distance.

“Miss Alice!”

When I realized it, the boy was gone, and I was found by Karina, who helped me reach the tea party safely, and I was designated as the Prince’s fiancée.

From that day on, I never cried again.

As the daughter of a Duke and the Prince’s fiancée, I couldn’t afford to act shamefully. I had to protect my family and my country, putting my own feelings aside.

I couldn’t become a weak young lady who cried.

That’s why the only time I cried was at that dance party, when Mr. Alusha appeared before me after eight years.
