Peijin carefully felt for a moment, it seemed that her relative hadn’t come, but they were definitely almost here.
At this point she suddenly recalled the words of her previous high school roommate. That roommate always had extremely severe cramps. She had once said, a few days before her relative came, it started to hurt and the few days after their relative had arrived, it hurt the worst. After her relative left, she never dared to eat as she pleased. If she carelessly ate icy, cool foods, then next month she would have to suffer.
At the thought of this Peijin felt terrible. Her body should also be having cramps right now, otherwise it would’ve been impossible to have such a violent reaction from eating a bit of seafood and fruits.
By now Peijin had curled up into a small, peeled shrimp out of pain. The insides of her mouth thinned out, an agonizing groan spilling out. When He Xun heard this, he thought Peijin was doing something naughty. He was just about to make fun of them, but then suddenly realized that something wasn’t right.
Peijin didn’t have an extroverted nature, they would never disregard the situation they were in and go on to sneakily do something naughty directly in their dorm. Besides, the sound they had left forth sounded very painful, entirely not a groan of pleasure.
With such a thought, He Xun quickly threw off his covers and got up from his bed, arriving before Peijin’s bed in a few strides to gauge their condition. At the sight of Peijin breaking out into a cold sweat, he asked in worried impatience, “Nerd, what’s wrong?”
Peijin’s face was pale from pain at this time, she didn’t even have the strength to speak.
He Xun eyebrows knit together, “You can’t stay like this, I’m taking you to the clinic.”
As soon as she heard the word ‘clinic’, Peijin was able to kick a bit of life back into herself. Once they went to the clinic, wouldn’t her identity as a girl be exposed?
No, no, that would never do.
She hurriedly sat up and slowly said, word for word, “Brother Xun, I’m fine, I just ate too much fruit and have a stomachache.”
He Xun’s expression remained worried, “You just ate a few fruits, so why does your stomach hurt so bad?”
Peijin inwardly sighed. In her last life she didn’t have painful menstrual cramps. Every time she saw her roommate, pale-faced from pain, unable to walk, she was unable to understand how it could hurt so bad. Now that it was her turn, she finally understood it was super painful. She estimated that for a while in the future, she would stay away from cold foods.
Peijin slightly raised her head higher and weakly said, “Brother Xun, I’m okay, go to bed.”
He Xun tightly grasped her ice-cold hands, “How can I sleep when you’re like this?” At this moment, the more he saw Peijin’s glasses, the more annoyed he got, “Take off your glasses, aren’t you uncomfortable laying down like this?”
With this, He Xun set out to take off Peijin’s glasses.
Actually, he had wanted to ask them before, was it really good for their eyes if they kept forgetting to take off their glasses every time they went to bed? Wouldn’t their eyes become sunken in after wearing glasses for a long time? At this moment he realized this was their own business, it had nothing to do with him, so there wasn’t a need for him to lend a hand and meddle. But right now, no matter what he said they already formed a friendship from being bedmates. Then, he shouldn’t be going overboard by caring about how they wore glasses when they went to sleep, right?
He Xun wasn’t even aware that he was starting to become increasingly more involved in Peijn’s affairs. Right now he knew, people who wore thick glasses for a long time had ugly eyes, by how the nerd never let their glasses leave their body, were their eyes so ugly that they couldn’t see without them?
Before Peijin even had the time to react, He Xun instantly plucked off her glasses.
She dazedly blinked, her eyelashes fluttered, the edges of her eyes a bit moist.
He Xun had thought that Peijin’s eyes were definitely really ugly.
Because she had long worn glasses, refusing to take them off even when going to bed.
However against all his expectations, the pair of eyes behind those glasses didn’t fit the sunken, deep and haggard, ugly appearance he had anticipated. On the contrary, their eyes were unimaginably beautiful, a glossy lustre seemed to circle over their pupils. When they were fixed onto someone, unfocused and a bit innocent, it was enough to stun a person speechless.
He Xun’s first reaction was to put the glasses back on Peijin.
For eyes so beautiful and bewitching as these, he was afraid if he looked at them again, his soul would almost get sucked in.
By now Peijin was starting to slowly process what was going on. She stammered aloud, “B-Brother Xun….”
He Xun stood up, saying in an awkward posture, “Your stomach hurts, I’ll go make you a cup of hot water.”
Peijin was still in a stupor, she said after a few seconds “Okay.”
When He Xun left, she finally reacted, he had taken off her glasses!
This face of hers had been completely naked, laid bare before He Xun’s eyes!
Then just like that, her identity, had it already been exposed?
For a moment Peijin felt a bit uneasy.
She hadn’t waited for long before He Xun returned holding a cup of water.
The water wasn’t too hot or too cold, but just right.
Peijin hadn’t known He Xun had become so much more attentive, that he could actually reach this level of thoughtfulness.
After Peijin took a few sips of the warm water she discovered that she felt a lot better, she slowly licked the water drops at the corner of her lips and said softly, “Brother Xun, I’m fine, you should go to sleep.”
He Xun looked down at her moist, plump, red lips, which appeared to be so due to the water she had drank. When he realized where he had been staring at, he averted his eyes in panicked embarrassment.
He still had some doubts after he heard these words, “Nerd, are you really fine?”
Peijin assured him in return, “Really, I’m alright.”
“Okay. Then I’m going back to sleep, call me if you need anything.”
“Alright.”
On this one night, Peijin slept restlessly, and it wasn’t because her stomach hurt, but because He Xun would ask once every two hours if she was feeling alright.
Several times she would be on the verge of falling asleep, but He Xun would call her awake. She had initially wanted to get angry, but thinking about how He Xun was being worried for her, and how it had because of her he wouldn’t be getting a good night’s rest either, her anger would dissipate.
He Xun asked her once every two hours. He was even more punctual than an alarm clock was. However she didn’t hear the sound of a phone alarm, or a phone vibrating. She guessed that He Xun was acting as a humanoid clock, constantly looking at his phone to tell the time.
Peijin hadn’t expected there was a day that her Demon King roommate could be so caring.
It hadn’t been that long ago when he had still been saying that in the future, when he got a girlfriend he would never coax her, let alone become a simp and wholly worship all of her.
She had always thought there would never be the day where the arrogant and conceited, Great Young Master Xun would care about other people. But before she knew it, he actually treated her, this roommate of his, so well.
Actually her Demon King roommate, really was a very, very good person.
The next day Peijin’s body had, for the most part, recovered.
Because she hadn’t felt well last night, the two couldn’t carry out on time the morning run they had originally planned. Peijin drank congee at the canteen in the morning, her body felt really cozy when the bowl of nice warm congee went down.
After finishing breakfast, the two went to class together. When Peijin didn’t see He Xun mention to her once of what had happened, the uneasiness in her heart became all the more heavier. Had he discovered anything or not?
As soon as they arrived at class, He Xun pulled Zheng Li out of the room with a complicated look on his face.
Zheng Li peered at him blankly, “Ah’Xun, what’s wrong?”
He Xun took a cigarette lighter and cigarette from his pocket, lighting it for himself with skilled ease. In the midst of the cigarette smoke, he silently smoked, not saying a single word.
Zheng Li thought that another large fight had arose within the Xun family and promptly asked him anxiously, “Ah’Xun, what exactly is going on?”
Out of the three bros, He Xun and Ah’Xun were the closest. This could also be seen from how he addressed He Xun. (1)
(1) Reiterating, “Ah” prefix is used for close friends and family.
Fatty and Zhang Chen both called He Xun, “Brother Xun”, only Zheng Li kept affectionately calling him, “Ah’Xun.”
After He Xun smoked half of the cigarette in silence, did he turn to Zheng Li with a troubled expression, “It seems that I…. toward the Nerd…care about them too much.”
He was someone who never liked to get involved in other people’s business and moreso, didn’t know how to care for others. He was a person who didn’t even care too much about his own body, how could be concerned with other people?
He showered in cold water during the winter and didn’t blow dry his hair after, he smoked and drank, drag-raced late into the night, wasting away his young health. Because he had never cared about himself in the first place. However it was only Nerd that he cared about.
Yesterday when Nerd had said they felt unwell, he found himself in a panic. He was scared they were in pain, and feared even more they were sick.
This truly had been a situation that had never happened before.
The eyes he had glimpsed upon last night that had left him speechless still lingered in his mind even now, and would never go away for a long time.
Previously when the Nerd had worn those thick glasses, he could only deduce from the outline of their face that they were fairly nice-looking. However nice-looking was it. From the start, he had even given them the cold shoulder for being too partial towards femininity, for not being manly enough.
Their looks were entirely not good enough for him, they may have been considered to be the best among ordinary people, but at the end of the day, they were just mid-level.
He wasn’t appearance-obsessed, nor was he someone superficial who only focused on looks. He got along with others only by seeing if they made him feel comfortable.
As for the Nerd, he had rather liked them from the beginning, and he felt extremely at ease when the two of them were living together.
In fact, he didn’t care how Nerd looked, even if he was ugly, it meant nothing to him. However he had absolutely never thought that the pair of eyes under Nerd’s glasses could actually be so electrifying.
Somebody had once said, a pair of eyes could save a face. In the past he had never believed these words at all.
How was it possible that a pair of eyes could brighten a person’s entire face? However after he met Peijin, he was convinced.
Peijin’s previous appearance could only be said to be average, however after taking off their glasses and exposing their whole face, up to this moment, it still sent his heart racing.
He had never thought his own roommate had turned out to be so beautiful, so beautiful, that it made his heart stir.
Undoubtedly there was nothing particularly special about the rest of their five senses, but after being accompanied with those exquisite eyes, their entire face was brought to life. It was so beautiful to the point one couldn’t erase it from their minds.
Yes, he could only use the word ‘beautiful’ to describe them. Although the word ‘beautiful’ probably couldn’t be considered any sort of compliment to men. However aside from beautiful, he truly couldn’t find any other words or expressions to substitute it.
After Zheng Li heard him out he gave a long ‘ahhh’ sound, “Ah’ Xun, what do you mean by that?”
He Xun lowered his head and covered his brow, conflicted and struggling, “It seems… my feelings toward them are a bit unusual.”
Zheng Li had never predicted that his always calm and cool brother would actually be faced with such a day. His impression of his brother had always been unruly, glamorous, domineering, confident, this was the first time he had been seen He Xun looking so lost. Zheng Li opened his mouth, yet he didn’t know what to say.
He thought for a long time and then haltingly consoled, “What…. Cough, cough, it’s already the year 8012, right, so sexuality isn’t a big deal. If you like them, then what are you afraid of?”
He Xun took a deep breath, frustration in his voice, “But they said, they’re straight.” Of course, not long in the past he had also said the same thing, he hadn’t thought that a short while after he would be slapped in the face by it.
Zheng Li scratched his head, he also didn’t know what to do.
This wasn’t a piece of cake, ah.
He Xun threw the cigarette onto the ground and grinded it with his foot, depressed, “If they were a girl, then it would’ve been fine.”
