Crazy from worry?
Peijin had completely never expected she would hear such a sentence.
It certainly was very dangerous for girls to be out alone, recently the news had reported that a lot of girls had murdered. After seeing more of this sort of news, Peijin’s awareness had been greatly heightened.
However, she was a “boy” right now. Boys seemed to be a bit safer off than girls?
However boy or girl, both still needed to pay more attention when going out the door.
It really was her fault before. She had left their dorm and went home, at the very least she should let her Demon King roommate know.
But she hadn’t thought that He Xun would unexpectedly be so worried for her. He was afraid that she would run into danger? So after hearing her voice on the phone, he seemed to let out a breath of relief?
She didn’t know if Zheng Li had been punished by He Xun on that end of the line, but after that, Peijin didn’t hear Zheng Li’s voice again.
He Xun seemed to have switched to a quieter place to talk to her, he didn’t continue to probe for her address.
“Then… See you on Monday.”
“Ok, Brother Xun, see you on Monday.”
After hanging up the phone, Peijin clutched at her abdomen and once again threw herself back onto bed.
At this moment, only the bed’s warmth could let her continue living like this.
During dinner, Father Pei came home wearily with a briefcase in his hands. When Father Pei returned, Peijin was sitting at the dinner table, a hand holding her stomach, the other drinking the ginger brown sugar water (1) the nanny had just made for her.
(1) For my readers who have that time of the month, whenever your relative comes, if you’re not allergic, try boiling some hot water, add a teaspoon of brown sugar water (not too much) and a few (2-3) thin slices of ginger. It’s a great remedy to alleviate cramps and it helps the flow of your period!
When Father Pei saw the cup of brown sugar water, he asked, concerned, “Peipei, how are you feeling?”
Peijin wasn’t too used to talking about this topic with Father Pei. Although Father Pei was currently her dad, but she wasn’t the original (1) after all. She mumbled, “Not too bad, it’s the same like before.”
(1) Referring to her not being the original character.
Father Pei handed his briefcase to the nanny at the side, and then sat down beside Peijin, “After dinner go lay down and rest well.”
Peijin felt a bit pampered. As a Senior, there were still numerous test papers stacked in her backpack, but Father Pei didn’t think about homework or question more about it, but was worried for her body. It made her a bit stunned, and then a bit emotional.
But at a time like this, she wouldn’t even be able to move if you really let her do her practice exercises (1) and her head hurt pounded with pain. She didn’t want to do anything, just lay down. “Okay, Dad.”
(1) Homework practice exercises
Not after long, the Nanny served the steaming dishes.
As Father Pei ate, he abruptly said, “Peipei, Dad thoroughly thought about it these few days. When you said you wanted to transfer schools before, it actually isn’t not possible.”
Peijin’s hand shook, raising her head to look at Father Pei in disbelief.
Father Pei laughed, “What is it? Bursting with happiness? In the past Dad wasn’t in a good mood, you said you wanted to transfer and Dad rejected, this is Dad’s fault. Dad shouldn’t vent his feelings from work on you.”
Peijin opened her mouth, “Dad…”
“Dad seriously thought it over and felt that letting you continue to stay at a boys school was an irrational decision. You are a girl, staying around piles of boys everyday just is not a thing. Dad wishes you can have a better learning and living environment, so Dad will take care of the transferring procedures for you as quickly as possible.”
In an instant, Peijin’s mind had a myriad of words she wanted to say, but she didn’t know what was best to say.
She knew transferring was the best choice for her, the matter that she was a girl couldn’t be hidden for long. Since right now Father Pei had put it this way, what was there for her to say no to?
If she were to transfer schools, then what about He Xun…
Once separated, Zheng Li and them would probably very quickly forget about her.
Peijin bit down hard on her lower lip, “Dad, the transferring procedures, how long will it take?”
“At quickest a week, half a month at slowest, however Dad will definitely do it as soon as possible.”
A week? It’s actually so fast.
Father Pei smiled, “Peipei, this week is a perfect time for you to say goodbye to the friends you’ve made these past days, in any case, they are also classmates. In the future, there may be several people you’ll never meet again.”
Yes, this world was so vast, and Senior year happened to be an important watershed (1) of a person’s life.
(1) Watershed relates to the term “Watershed event” which is an important, decisive moment that can significantly impact/change the course of the future; much like the small, significant points depicted in the butterfly effect.
Everyone would all make different life choices, once some people separated, it was possible to really never meet them again in one’s entire life.
After realizing this, Peijin felt a little sad.
Father Pei, with his chopsticks, put food on Peijin’s plate for her, “Peipei, do you want to transfer to your previous school, or switch to a new one?”
Peijin pursed her lips, actually, in her heart, she didn’t want to transfer to her previous school. She had transmigrated for so long and her former classmates had never even contacted her. It was clear that the relationship between the original body’s owner and her classmates were very mediocre, she probably didn’t even have a close, good friend to talk to. Since it was like that, she was better off choosing a high school and starting her high school life anew.
Peijin lowered her head and thought for a moment, saying, “Dad, can I transfer to No.12 Middle that’s (1) next to the boys’ school?”
(1) Chinese School System splits middle school into two, with Junior Middle (12-15 years), and Senior Middle (15-18 years).
No. 12 Middle was the City’s Key High School (1) that Meng Meng and Xu Yi were at, adjacent to the boys’ high school. If she were to transfer to No.12 Middle, whenever she wanted to go find her past classmates later, it would be very convenient.
(1) Secondary education is separated into “Key” and “Ordinary” Schools; Key high schools are usually established in Urban environments and prioritized in funding, resulting in the accumulation of more affluent students. [Source]
Father Pei didn’t question more on why, he very swiftly agreed.
No. 12 Middle had qualified teachers, high enrollment rates, and was ranked high among the local high schools.
Most importantly, boys and girls attended class together at this school. Peijin would never have to pretend to be a boy and play herself off amidst a bunch of boys again.
After settling this problem, Father Pei’s seemed to relax a little more.
With his daughter staying in the middle of a pack of boys, he was genuinely afraid she might get corrupted. Fortunately in the present his daughter hadn’t seemed to be corrupted, and there was still time to transfer schools.
After knowing that she was about to transfer, Peijin could only think that the food in her mouth had gone completely tasteless. Undoubtedly, the nanny’s skills were superb, the dishes splendid and many, with three meats, two vegetables, and one soup, but she really didn’t have the appetite.
After half heartedly eating a few more bites, she returned to her room.
About transferring schools, should she tell He Xun ahead of time?
Peijin turned over and took out her phone, finding He Xun’s Wechat.
His remark name (1) was still “Big Demon King.” After entering the two words ‘Brother Xun’ onto the screen, she was unable to continue typing.
(1) A function on Wechat to nickname people, similar to how phone users can give people a nickname on their phone.
What was she supposed to say?
Whatever, she might as well wait till next time to tell him.
This time Peijin was home she went on to rest for four days time, waiting until her relative was just about to leave before going back to school.
As soon as she was back at her dorm room and saw He Xun’s face again, she unexpectedly had an abrupt feeling of estrangement.
Obviously they had been separated for four days. Once she transferred schools, the time they were separated would probably be more than four days.
When that time came, would He Xun’s appearance all become blurred?
“Brother Xun?”
When He Xun heard her voice he looked up and saw that Peijin had returned to their dorm. He got up and helped Pejin take her things inside and then patted Peijin’s head, “Have you completely recovered?”
Previously Peijin had told He Xun she was feeling sick so she had asked for two days leave.
Peijin nodded her head.
“Did you eat yet?”
Peijin shook her head, “Not yet.”
“There’s a new burger joint that’s opened at the school’s entrance, do you want to go?”
“Yes!”
When Peijin and He Xun arrived at the newly opened burger joint, it was already packed, and the two finally got a seat after waiting for a long while.
A majority of the shop’s customers were all high school students like them. Aside from the students from the boy’s highschool, many of them were also from No.12 middle.
What He Xun ordered was a combo meal, the combo meal included hamburgers, french fries, cola, chicken wings, chicken nuggets, just about anything.
Just as Peijin was about to take her medium iced coke, He Xun moved it aside and then placed another cup of milk before her, “Peipei, drink this.”
He Xun must’ve especially ordered this cup of milk separately, because there was no hot milk in the combo meal.
Just as Peijin had taken a sip of milk, at that time, she suddenly heard a girl’s coquettish voice from beside her.
“I don’t want to eat this, it’s too sweet.”
The boy’s voice was infinitely patient, he took the sweet potato pie aside, asking, “Then what would you like to eat? I’ll go order again.”
The girl pouted her lips, “I want to eat….you.”
The boy’s face was composed, but the reddening tips of his ears betrayed him.
He was a little strained, “Be good, don’t fuss, are you going to eat the chicken nuggets?”
The girl put her chin in both her hands and demanded, “Eat! But I want you to feed me.”
The boy shyly gave a light cough, but he didn’t reject the girl’s demand, taking a chicken nugget and placing it in the girl’s mouth.
The girl giggled and bit down on the chicken nugget with her teeth, her face full of joy from her success.
Helpless, the boy said, “Behave a little, eat your food.”
The girl gave a ‘hmph’, “Kiss, hug and hold me up high, and then I’ll obediently eat.”
The boy swiped the tip of the girl’s nose, “You.”
“Then are you going to kiss, hug, and hold me up high or not?”
The boy compromised, “Ok, ok, ok, after a while though, there’s a lot of people here.”
“Peipei.”
Peijin jumped at the sound of this call, she had completely forgotten to drink her milk while looking at the little sweethearts from the table beside her.
Right as she turned her eyes back, she saw He Xun thoughtfully looking at her.
“Brother Xun?”
He Xun smirked, “You look like…you also really want to be kissed, hugged, and held up high?”
Peijin vehemently shook her head, denying it, “I don’t….”
Actually, she truly felt a bit envious, but it was only by that tiny bit. She also knew that she was a ‘boy’ right now, how could a boy flirtatiously ask to be hugged like that girl?
And who would she demand to kiss, hug, and hold her high?
He Xun?
That wouldn’t be right. After all, there, she was nothing more than a roommate.
But… was her face actually so obvious, that even He Xun could actually tell.
He Xun chuckled, but didn’t say anything more.
Peijin let out a breath of relief.
Not after long the pair of little sweethearts next to them left.
Peijin couldn’t stop her heart from thinking, if that girl had eventually been kissed, hugged, and picked up.
Finished eating, as soon as she walked out the hamburger joint, her entire persons was raised up high in the air by He Xun.
She lowly shrieked.
She lowered her head, and was able to see He Xun’s laughing eyes.
He Xun raised his head up and looked at her, his eyes filled with her slightly surprised face.
He even went so far as to spin her in several circles as he hugged her.
After spinning a few times, He Xun put Peijin down.
Once Peijin was put down, she retreated a few steps, asking in a low voice, “Brother Xun, what’s with you!”
He Xun raised an eyebrow, “What?”
There’s still so much people here and he actually hugged her, this ‘boy’, raising her high and twirling in circles!
Could it be that he wasn’t scared of being laughed at, that people would misunderstand?
Peijin’s heart felt a mess, but outside of feeling confused, there seemingly also were a bit of other emotions there.
That emotion, seemed to be pleasant surprise and joy.
She had intended to never let He Xun do this again, but she suddenly thought, if it were faster, then she would probably transfer schools after a week.
After transferring, she might not even have a chance to get along with He Xun like this.
Since this was the case, then why couldn’t she do what she wanted?
