Chapter 19.2 - Demon Saber

When Hua Yi woke up again, the day had passed. Instinctively, he did not move. First, he closed his eyes and felt his body. He found that the wound was not so painful, and that the anesthetics on his body were basically gone. Strength was restored in his hands and feet. This relieved him, but then Hua Yi remembered his bizarre experience.

As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw the “quirky” protagonist beside him.

He didn’t know when Chang An’s saber got into his incredibly big bag. He also didn’t know where they had fallen asleep. In such a dangerous forest, they even curled up and slept together. Chang An was sitting on the trunk as he slept, as if he wanted to appear like some kind of man with noble character that was beyond the mundane world. Unfortunately, he was quite disorganized. As he slept, his head would unconsciously tilt to one side. When it tilted to a certain extent, he’d fall down, and he will get up in a daze and sit back under the tree again, and then he’d fall asleep again in an instant.

Hua Yi watched this peculiar young man for a while and slowly sat up.

Chang An was startled by his movements. He opened his eyes and looked at Hua Yi. The first sentence that came out of his mouth was: “Do you have any sugar buds?”

Hua Yi took a handful out from his package, put it in his hand and picked out a few pieces from it. Under Chang An’s reluctant eyes, he explained, “Those pieces can’t be eaten. They contain poison powder.”

Chang An took one piece of sugar with relish and peeled it off, then collected the rest. He had a strange feeling for sugar buds. As a child, A’yan liked to hide some pieces and secretly give them to him. And when he got to Bei Shi, every time his bastard Shifu exhausted him, he’d threw him a reward, which was also this kind of soft and sweet candy.

Hua Yi stared at him for a while and finally asked, “Why don’t you lie down and sleep?”

Chang An rubbed his eyes. “I want to take care of the fire.”

Hua Yi’s eyes fell on the fire that had long been extinguished and fell silent.

Chang An followed his gaze and asked himself in confusion: “How did it die?”

Hua Yi sighed, then got up, poked and stirred the fire for a while until it was burning again. He sat there with a simple and honest smile on his face. It looked light, yet it seemed to indicate a cold and hard background. He asked casually, “You saved me indiscriminately. Aren’t you afraid that I might be a bad person?”

Chang An yawned and said vaguely, “Zhe Yan said that you saved me.”

Hua Yi glanced at him and asked, “You are… Seventeen? Eighteen?”

“En,” Chang An nodded unconcernedly. “Almost.”

Hua Yi hesitated for a moment. He didn’t ask where he came from or how he learned his amazing skills. Facing Chang An, he felt speechless. The young man he had suspected with malice had just saved his life.

These past years, aside from the friends whom he had gone through life and death with by chance, there were only two other kinds of people that Hua Yi had met. They were his pursuers and his employers. However, this time, he met a special one.

He had been so skillful for many years, but at this moment, the “Silly Big Man” from his childhood suddenly came back and he didn’t know what to do.

While Hua Yi was pondering how to strike up a conversation with the young man, he didn’t expect that during his moment of silence, Chang An had already fallen asleep. It was probably because someone else was now taking care of the fire that he felt relieved enough to rest against his luggage, lying down comfortably.

His saber technique was so powerful that it was almost monstrous. Hua Yi couldn’t help suspecting that the young man was also a mercenary. However, seeing how careless he was, he thought that he might’ve been thinking too much.

Hua Yi frowned and thought about Chang An for a while, but he couldn’t figure out anything. After much hesitation, he finally took off his tattered coat and laid it over Chang An. Then he took advantage of the fire to deal with his wounds.
