It was easy to appease Jiang Ren the other night. It was the first time he believed her words. But this time he wasn’t so easy to appease.
He was someone who was lacking in any sense of security. Xu Jia’s appearance at the airport shattered all his gentleness.
His arms locked around the side of her legs. Meng Ting tried to calm him down. She still remembered that time Jiang Ren beat up that guy at the hospital. Several male doctors tried to pull him away but were unable to. What was he doing?
Her fingers pressed against his shoulders turned white. Ming Ting could feel the young man’s strong physique and scorching body temperature under her palms.
His breathing was hard. It was anger from being deceived.
He wouldn’t be so angry if she lied to him about something else.
Meng Ting’s voice trembled. She didn’t know what she was saying, “I’m not together with Xu Jia. That’s never happened. Really.”
Jiang Ren stared her down expressionlessly, then snorted, “I don’t believe you.”
Most pretty women are liars, cheating men of their feelings and heart, turning smart men into fools, especially when the woman was as pretty as she is.
He grabbed the back of her head and kissed her.
Meng Ting whimpered and punched him. Her pink and tender fists pounding on his shoulder didn’t hurt at all. It was only giving him a little trouble. Finally, he grew impatient with being gentle. His other hand snatched both of her wrists, tugging downward slightly, and forced her to raise her chin to meet him.
She didn’t know how pretty she was.
He wanted to do this to her ever since the night she called Xu Jia to break up with him.
Her body was fragrant. Her mouth was sweet. Even her teary and frightened eyes made his spine shudder.
Jiang Ren thought about it, all the way from that starry night to waiting for her at the bus station every day to the airport. He was learning the most useless yet it was also the most troublesome of human traits——respect.
He was learning this all because of her, but if they couldn’t help him obtain her, what was the use of it all?
He wanted to kill the man outside. Even more, he wanted to kill the girl who dared to play him like a fool.
But, fucking hell, he liked her.
He really liked her.
Liked her so much that before killing her, he’d end himself.
Meng Ting whimpered.
Jiang Ren was scary! Her whole body was shaking. He wasn’t thinking clearly, but she was. This was the men’s bathroom at the airport! If her younger brother and Xu Jia couldn’t find her, they’d panic in search of her.
The monotone ring of her phone sounded.
He leaned against the sink, hugging her tightly as he kissed her.
Her lips were turning numb. The phone rang persistently for some time before it stopped.
She felt this was a nightmare.
Meng Ting finally realized that in the past when he would deliberately kiss her fingers and she’d hit him, he didn’t retaliate because he was indulging her. In reality, when he’s mad, no one could stop him.
She didn’t know how long he kissed her.
At first, she wanted to break away from him. Then, she wanted to bite him. But in the end, she had no strength to fight back. She was embarrassed and angry, finding it difficult to breathe; she only wanted to cry.
When her phone rang once again, Shu Yang walked in from outside. He and Xu Jia split up to find Meng Ting. He called her as he walked, not expecting to hear a faint ring in this area.
He couldn’t believe Meng Ting’s phone would ring in the men’s bathroom, yet because he was worried for her, he decided to take a look inside.
Upon entering, he saw something that turned his blood cold——his step-sister was being kissed by a young man at the sink.
Meng Ting was furious.
Jiang Ren has lost his mind; she still had hers.
She saw Shu Yang come in through her watery eyes.
Shu Yang yanked Jiang Ren’s shoulders from behind, yet Jiang Ren ignored him and kissed her hard.
Meng Ting vowed she has never wanted so desperately to find to hole to bury herself in until this moment.
Shu Yang mustered all his strength and was finally able to drag Jiang Ren off of Meng Ting. Meng Ting covered her mouth, her wrists red. She blinked her eyes, fighting back the urge to cry.
Shu Yang was infuriated. He sent a punch to Jiang Ren’s face.
Jiang Ren sneered coldly. Jiang Ren caught his fist and fought back fiercely.
Jiang Ren wasn’t trash like Chen Shuo. He’s learned sanda***.
***sanda: Chinese combat sport***
Shu Yang was angry; he was angrier. Meng Ting and Xu Jia faked their breakup. They really dared!
His fists were fierce. He’s never backed down in a fight with anyone.
Shu Yang clutched his stomach, his face pale.
Meng Ting wiped her eyes. When she jumped off the sink, her legs were weak. She didn’t know how to stop the fight, but she knew this wasn’t good. Jiang Ren could fight one on ten. How could Shu Yang, a scholarly straight-A student, match him?
Chen Shuo was still lying in the hospital. She won’t allow anything to happen to her little brother.
Shu Yang fell to the ground. Meng Ting hugged Jiang Ren’s waist, mustering all her strength to drag him back.
His brute force was so strong that she stumbled.
He grabbed her hand, not letting her fall. Jiang Ren’s face was icy. He didn’t make another move.
Her voice was a little stuffy as she asked, “Are you done?”
She intended to scold him, but her words came out carrying a distressed softness. Jiang Ren’s body stiffened. He was done; his mind was clear.
He feared she would cry and turned around to cup her face. Meng Ting slapped his hand away. Jiang Ren lowered his eyes to look at that hand and couldn’t help feeling pained.
Meng Ting choked with sobs as she pulled Shu Yang up. Shu Yang’s face was dark as he tightly pursed his lips. His gaze, as he looked at Jiang Ren, clearly showed he wanted to lunge at him for another fight. Meng Ting truly feared something would happen to him. She yanked on him, refusing to let him go.
She was only grateful that it wasn’t Xu Jia who came but rather it was her younger brother Shu Yang. If it was Xu Jia, she feared he will have to go out laying down and need to call an ambulance.
“I’m fine,” Shu Yang grits his teeth.
Meng Ting, “Let’s go home.”
When she and Shu Yang turned to leave, Jiang Ren grabbed her wrist.
His grip was light, not daring to hold her tightly, but neither did he let her go.
The young man’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his voice hoarse, “Sorry.”
Meng Ting wanted to wretch her hand out, but the moment she twitched, he’d lightly tighten his palm. Meng Ting sucked in a deep breath and said to Shu Yang, “Wait for me outside, okay?”
Shu Yang rubbed his elbow, nodded, and left. He really wanted to call up Xu Jia to beat up this lunatic together, but once he recalled the beating he just went through, he figured Xu Jia will only be just another punching bag. If Jiang Ren didn’t allow them to leave, none of them would be able to. Shu Yang knew this, so he went outside to wait.
Meng Ting turned around to look at him with a frown.
Her black eyelashes were wet, her lips inviting. She was at fault from the start. Because of her prejudice against Jiang Ren, she didn’t refuse Xu Jia’s proposal.
She didn’t expect he would mind so much. She only wanted to chase him off.
Meng Ting remembered he liked to smile in front of her. Even when she hit him, he didn’t get angry, except when it involved Xu Jia.
At Lihua*** Village, he was angry grandfather pet his hair, but he only drew a long face. When she showed him the small pear blossom, he simply swallowed his anger.
***Li Hua: Pear Blossom***
Jiang Ren’s finger trembled, “I was just…. sick.” He struggled as he said, “I will go see a doctor.”
Besides feeling embarrassed, there was also a strange feeling in her heart.
Meng Ting suddenly remembered that night. She said she and Xu Jia never kissed; his eyes were brighter than the moon; his smile was pure and clean.
Meng Ting already knew the price for lying and feared Jiang Ren will continue to torment her because of this. She lifted her eyes and confessed earnestly, “I didn’t lie to you. There is nothing between Xu Jia and me; the night of Christmas Eve, I didn’t dodge when he plucked the snowflake, because you were there; I don’t like him, nor did I ever date him.”
Meng Ting hissed in annoyance, “If you don’t believe me, you can ask him.” She waved her phone, “I don’t even have his phone number.”
Jiang Ren froze.
So… he was angry all winter break, but it turns out it was all fake? Even though Meng Ting didn’t like him, she has never liked Xu Jia?
Meng Ting said, “I am to blame for lying, but…” She remembered what had happened. Shu Yang also saw. It made her want to commit murder and suicide with this bastard, “Forcing yourself on me is your fault. I am very angry. Move.”
He smiled.
This time, the smile lit up his lips to his eyes.
It’s wonderful she didn’t like someone else.
So wonderful! In an instant, his heart rose from hell to heaven. Jiang Ren didn’t move. She was angry, but he could coax her, as long as she didn’t leave him. He didn’t even mind she lied to him because that was all fake, way more pleasing than if it was true.
Jiang Ren grabbed her hand and set it on his chest.
In the warmth of spring, his shirt was thin. Under her palm, that heart was beating strongly.
Just like his person, strong and domineering like fire.
“Listen. If you’re angry, slap me. It’s all my fault. Please forgive me, okay?”
Meng Ting was stupefied, “Listen to yourself! How many times has this been? How can someone be like this? She didn’t like to torment one another with him.
Jiang Ren was completely unashamed, “This is the last time.”
A smile brimmed from his eyes, “Your words were false but mine was true. I said I won’t smoke or fight; that was true. There is no smell of smoke on me. I am also being a good student. My illness will get better one day. I won’t lie to you. Whatever you like, I will become that. Don’t reject me, okay?”
The heart under her palm beat rapidly.
He gently caressed her split lip, his heart ached, “Did I do this?”
Meng Ting felt a faint sting. She already knew her lips were split. If it wasn’t him, did she do it herself? Why did he even ask?
In the next moment, she knew.
Jiang Ren lifted his arm.
The young man’s arm was strong and powerful, a healthy wheat color. He lifted it to her lips, “I let you bite back, okay?”
His eyes were smiling, “Leave a mark. I will give you an IOU. I won’t bully you ever again.” Bullying you one time is enough, then I will owe you forever.
The weather was approaching early summer. She remembered her humiliation as her wrists were restrained and she was forced to cooperate with him. The air was scorching.
She just stopped a fight, not allowing Jiang Ren and Shu Yang to fight. Now her suppressed grievances finally poured out.
In both lifetimes he was a total bastard.
Meng Ting bit down on his arm. How angry she was being pressed up against the sink, that was how much force she used.
When she tasted blood, she let go.
She was a good child growing up. This was the first time she bit someone after being bullied so badly. She didn’t feel so good, feeling both uncomfortable and smug from getting revenge.
The person who was bitten smiled as he wiped her lips with his finger, then squatted down in front of her. Her shoes, as she was struggling on the sink, one of the buttons came loose.
Xu Jia ignored Shu Yang’s protests and entered the men’s bathroom and happened to see this.
The boy who was said to be a lawless bully was buttoning up Meng Ting’s shoes.
On his arm was a small tooth mark that was still bleeding.
Shu Yang tugged on Xu Jia’s arm; both were stunned. Shu Yang remembered the fierceness this guy fought him with. For a moment his heart was full of mixed feelings.
Xu Jia glanced at Meng Ting who looked shaken up, his lips pursed into a straight line.
The squatting young man stood after he finished buttoning. Raising his dark eyes, his gaze swept over Xu Jia, landing on Shu Yang. Jiang Ren smiled lazily, “Sorry bro. Are you okay? Want me to take you to the hospital?”
