"He's here!"
The shrill alarm bells rang out in the laboratory, and Dr. Manhattan paused in his actions, his expression changing. He then quickened his pace and sternly ordered, "Don't just stand there. Is the culture medium ready? Purify the evolution serum immediately!"
The others immediately snapped out of their daze caused by the alarm, panic setting in as they scrambled to get to work.
Luo Shui, watching the commotion in the laboratory through the computer screen, seemed deep in thought. She said, "It looks like your situation has completely deteriorated. Manhattan, give me what I want. I can notify the base to support you."
Dr. Manhattan didn't turn around, his voice cold. "No need. We know what we're doing. By the way, the purity of the azalea extract is 0.3%, right?"
Dr. Manhattan's tone was harsh, and he knew that Luo Shui's so-called support was nothing more than a barrage of tactical nuclear missiles. In this era of self-preservation, could anyone really expect humanitarian aid?
Luo Shui fell silent for a moment. She understood Dr. Manhattan's concerns and nodded, not bringing up the matter again. Being blackmailed by Dr. Manhattan was not a pleasant experience.
But in the apocalypse, although Australia had not lost contact with the mainland, there was clearly no substantial interaction possible in the short term, which was why she was being blackmailed by Dr. Manhattan.
She really wanted to obtain Li Mu's ashes and had to rely on the Forward Base. Although the truth of the matter was yet to be confirmed, even if there was only a one in ten thousand chance, Luo Shui would not give up.
Now, the Forward Base was clearly facing an unpredictable crisis, and the situation was extremely dire. Luo Shui knew that to get what she wanted, she had to set aside her discomfort and ensure the safety of the Forward Base.
With this in mind, Luo Shui rallied her spirits and began to guide Dr. Manhattan's experiments, secretly recording some of the data. After all, she had never actually conducted live experiments, and helping Dr. Manhattan was also a contribution to her research.
"Reduce the concentration of the culture medium by one point."
"Increase the concentration of the azalea extract to 0.5%."
"How is the dilution of the spinal fluid..."
In the laboratory, with Luo Shui's guidance, everything became orderly amidst the chaos. Outside the laboratory, as the weapon caches were opened, more and more civilians were armed, and the news could no longer be hidden.
Soon, everyone knew that a large number of zombies were heading towards the Forward Base. This news plunged everyone into panic.
"Damn, how many zombies are there?!"
"No one has told us. But from the looks of it, the number might be terrifying."
"What the hell is going on! Why are there suddenly so many zombies surrounding the city?"
The crowd was in chaos, but General Soros had no time to deal with them. These armed civilians were only to strengthen the base's defenses, but General Soros did not place all his hopes on them. He relied on the army under his command, but the situation was not optimistic. As Li Mu's zombie army rapidly advanced towards Sydney, the combat command room gradually understood the current situation.
"The number of zombies exceeds two million. We can't possibly hold them off."
Someone broke down in despair and shouted.
General Soros, expressionless, shot the man dead, his iron-fisted approach instantly intimidating the others.
General Soros, his eyes filled with killing intent, said, "Shut up, all of you. Immediately formulate a combat plan. I want to see a detailed plan before those damn zombies enter the city."
"It's useless. In the face of such overwhelming numbers, no combat plan can successfully repel these zombie hordes."
Someone cried out in pain.
General Soros said nothing, just raised his gun. Blood splattered as the man fell, and he sternly ordered, "I want a combat plan! You only need to obey!"
General Soros executed two more people, and no one dared to speak out of turn. Even in their despair, no one dared to voice their opinions in the face of General Soros's brutality. They began to formulate what might be their last combat plan in despair.
General Soros used his iron-fisted approach to suppress the collapsing morale, but he himself felt a sense of powerlessness. He gestured for the guards to watch over the combat advisors and turned to leave for the laboratory.
However, he was stopped before he could enter the laboratory. Clearly, Dr. Manhattan had given orders that no one was to disturb him during this critical moment of the experiment.
General Soros's face turned ashen as he looked through the protective glass. He could see Colonel Hoover lying on the operating table and the many dismembered zombies, their blood still fresh.
After a moment's hesitation, General Soros said nothing more, only instructing his adjutant, "Prepare the Royal. Draft the evacuation list. If things go wrong, we must evacuate immediately."
The adjutant immediately nodded and left.
The Forward Base, centered around Garden Island Naval Base, still controlled several frigates. While they might not be useful in repelling the zombies, they were the best choice for the base's evacuation. The vast sea would be the last place of retreat for the Forward Base.
From General Soros's orders, it was clear that this man, who held the military power in the Forward Base, had little hope for victory in this war.
After all, the number of zombies surging towards them was truly overwhelming, enough to make anyone despair.
Perhaps Dr. Manhattan still placed his hopes on a breakthrough in the evolution serum, but General Soros had already prepared for a defeat and evacuation.
However, even with the preparations for evacuation, General Soros was still determined to fight. He could not simply give up. Even if they were transferred by frigates to the sea, they would eventually have to return to land; they couldn't live on the sea forever.
In the Forward Base in Australia, General Soros was the ruler. But if he lost the base, even if he managed to escape and save his life, his future would be extremely difficult.
So unless the Forward Base was completely overrun, General Soros would not abandon it.
With this in mind, General Soros did not delay, striding away to lead the war.
"He's here, they're here!"
In the combat command room, someone suddenly screamed, a look of madness in their eyes. They abruptly pulled out their gun and put it in their mouth, firing a shot. Under this terrible pressure, they ended their own life.
The sudden gunshot did not elicit much reaction from the others. Their eyes were nearly vacant, staring dumbly at the computer screen, which was now completely filled with the endless figures of the zombies, their blood-red eyes and bloodthirsty expressions.
