Chapter 1

Civilization had collapsed two years ago.
I had become a third-year university student.

"Ikoma, you're being exiled."
Rage, the handsome and cool leader of the hunting team, said coldly.
I had thought, "Maybe I'll be kicked out someday," but I never expected to actually hear it.
Just to be sure,
"Are you serious?"
I asked, confirming it.
Rage frowned uncomfortably and nodded vigorously.
"Dead serious. You're unnecessary to the village—no, let me put it clearly.
You're a liability to this village.
You might think you're doing well by cozying up to Kaguya, but I see right through you.
Your skills are trash."
I couldn't help but look up at the sky.
Is this guy for real?
At the entrance square of A University Settlement—A Village, surrounded by many students who had stopped to watch us during their work, the crowd was starting to buzz.
The scene of me, the handy but poor producer, facing off against Rage, the top hunter of A Village, was quite sensational.
Everyone knew that Rage disliked me, but I never thought it would come to this.
And the reason is because of my good relationship with Senior Kaguya.
What a hopeless guy.
"Ah, I see. But is that okay?
Without my 'Replication: B' skill, you'll be in trouble—"
"I don't care, I told you I know.
I'm done with your excuses.
Don't spout nonsense, you copycat."
He wasn't listening.
Rage pointed at me and said,
"Get out by tomorrow. Don't you dare go near Kaguya again.
If you don't leave, we'll force you out, you copycat."
That's what he spat out.
Rage is after Senior Kaguya, so he wants to get rid of me, his close friend.
To be honest, I was already tired of Rage and his crew, so it turned into a tit-for-tat situation.
"Got it. I'll leave, then?"
And that's how I was exiled from the village.

Two years ago, the Earth was destroyed.
The first event was a series of natural disasters, including tectonic shifts.
Massive earthquakes occurred, drastically changing the landscape around the world.
Most of the old roads were severed, and huge fault lines rose like cliffs in the middle of cities.
After the earthquake, which claimed nearly one-tenth of the human population, came a fierce storm with intense lightning.
Rivers overflowed, and tsunamis repeatedly crashed along the coasts.
At this point, civilization was already half-collapsed.
But the truly terrifying destruction came afterward.
—The appearance of monsters.
Monsters with supernatural powers emerged all over the world, seemingly from nowhere.
They were impervious to human weapons and destroyed the framework of nations and the global social structure of humanity.
Especially the dragons—mythical creatures with four legs and a pair of wings—were terrifying. The weakened and confused human armies after the natural disasters were no match for them.
Most of the major urban areas became the territories of these dragon species, and humans were forced to find new places to live.
That was two years ago. A summary of when civilization collapsed.
But humanity has not yet perished.
Yes, two years ago. Two years ago.
We humans, as if granted by the heavens, suddenly acquired this power.
Status and skills—supernatural abilities like those in games and manga.
