Chapter 5

My 'Replication' skill is more suited for production roles. I don't have much combat experience.
I've only participated in surveillance and defense a few times when asked by the guard team.
Even with Horn Pigs, which are considered relatively easy to hunt, I still feel a bit nervous.
If I had combat skills like Raiji, it would be a different story.
Raiji, the hunter, had 'Toughness Enhancement: C', 'Power Enhancement: B', and 'Swordsmanship: B'. Combined with his cold nature, he was a renowned hunter who mercilessly took down his prey.
Few people have three skills. In A University Village, only Raiji has them.
B-rank skills grant expert-level abilities, but they aren't that rare.
It's said that about one in a hundred people awaken to a B-rank skill.
However, if someone awakens to three skills, with two of them being B-rank, they would be as rare as one in ten thousand.
Raiji's fixation on Kaguya-senpai, who possesses a rare A-rank skill, might be because he feels the same sense of being 'special'.
Compared to Raiji, my only awakened skill is 'Replication: B'.
I usually help the production team, which is always short-handed, by replicating B-rank skills.
Even so, with six skill slots, being able to replicate and fill five of them with other people's skills is very useful in combat.
This time, I have three types of status enhancement skills and a cool wooden stick.
I've also participated in combat and survival training in A University Village.
I've joined the meat processing team multiple times to dissect Horn Pigs, so I know their structure well.
I know exactly where and how to strike to kill a living creature.
Considering the survival life ahead, I want to gain hunting experience. Having meat will make meals more enjoyable, and besides, that thing can provide other useful materials besides pork.
"--- Alright. Let's do this."
I circle around to the back of the grunting Horn Pig.
It has a keen sense of smell, so it's probably aware of my presence, but it hasn't become overly cautious yet.
A Horn Pig is not much different from a pig except for its horns.
However, its sharp horns can cause severe injuries if it strikes, and pigs are much stronger than humans.
Fighting it without a weapon would be reckless.
Despite the pig's bulky image, it can run at about forty kilometers per hour.
A Horn Pig's charge is like a collision with a moped equipped with a weapon at the front.
If it hits you head-on, it can easily kill a human.
Surprisingly, it can also bite off a human finger in one bite.
Its large body, covered in tough skin and thick subcutaneous fat, provides high defense.
It's not an opponent to be taken lightly.
I should never stand in front of it and should quickly target its weak points to take it down.
I leap out from behind a tree and aim for the Horn Pig.
First strike, my wooden stick whistles as it strikes the joint of the Horn Pig's hind leg with great force.
With C-rank power and speed enhancements, the strike of a professional athlete's full swing destroys the Horn Pig's joint.
Even a tough pig-like creature has weak joints.
Even if I can't break them, I should be able to prevent it from running for a while.
The Horn Pig lets out a painful squeal.
It swings its horns, trying to intimidate me—but unfortunately, I've already moved out of range.
With one leg crushed, its movement is greatly restricted.
At least, it can no longer charge at full speed.
I jump onto its back, careful not to be thrown off, and wrap my hands around its thick neck—twisting with all my might.
There's a sickening crack, and I know the Horn Pig's neck bone is broken.
I jump away to avoid being crushed as it falls to the side, and I observe it.
It's not dead yet; it's still breathing.
I wait carefully until it stops moving, and once I'm sure it's dead,
"--- Phew. That was tense."
I exhale deeply.
I approach it cautiously and take out a large knife for dissection.
This knife can't be replaced, so I can't use it in combat.
Moreover, replicated items have a lower rank, so they don't have the strength for combat.
That's why I wanted its horn.
I tie its hind legs with vines and hang it from a tree, cutting the blood vessels in its neck to drain the blood.
It was quite heavy and difficult, but thanks to 'Power Enhancement: C', I managed it.
The experience of helping the meat processing team with 'Butchery: C' comes in handy at times like this.
Even though I've swapped out the skill, the knowledge and experience I gained remain.
It took some effort, but I eventually finished the dissection.
I obtained a sturdy horn, about fifty centimeters long, with a slightly twisted shape.
Upon closer inspection, it has small, spiky protrusions densely covering it, making it more dangerous than it looks.
If it pierces you, it won't come out easily, and if you twist it while it's in, the protrusions will tear the flesh apart.
It's designed that way.
I carve a hole in the tip of the wooden stick and insert the base of the horn.
It didn't fit perfectly at first, but after a few adjustments, it worked.
The experience of helping with wood processing by replicating 'Carpentry: C' came in handy.
Reinforcing the connection with sturdy vines,
"Alright. The spear is complete."
The cool wooden stick has become a spear about two meters long.
This is a good start to a smooth survival life, isn't it?
