Chapter 1
There lived a dragon on an island.
An island so beautiful, bountiful with crops and a paradise of animals.
Now, on the fan-shaped creek, where sands were sparkling white, was no more.
That sparkling sand was now tinted crimson, as if an ugly paint was carelessly spilled. The wreckage of a ship was bobbed up in the black waters. The smell of blood and the salty ocean mixed with the choking metallic tang.
On the sea of blood, red limbs and yellow blubbers floated.
Just ten minutes before, those were what made up the shape of humans.
The ruin of what once was the aggressors of his land, the silver dragon’s land. Full complement of around twenty strong. All had transformed into clumps of meat. None moved, if one would ignore the afterdeath spasms of the muscles.
To the silver dragon, it was a scenery he knew well.
Along with the life given to him, the Godtold him to protect the residence of this island.
Since ancient times , he had battled the forces that had preyed on the island.
But the assaults had gotten violent. The weaponry they developed too, was terrific. Especially the cylinder they called guns. If it was to advance, it would cause nothing but concern. Though time has passed, those deadly weapons were still incapable of killing him.
With his blue eyes, the silver dragon inspected his body. The scales that twinkled the last light of the day before the creeping dusk, and from the gaps, sputtered a mercury-like dark gray liquid.
The dragon’s blood.
A few hundred bullets had pelted him. One had found its way through the phalanx of his scales, and now lodged in his flesh. But to the gigantic dragon, the wound was no more than a prickling needle.
Glistening droplets spewed on a lump of flesh.
No, it wasn’t a lump of flesh.
His blood had landed on a baby.
An age of approximately two, or three years old, the dragon wasn’t informed on this topic. Her body was drenched in blood and seemed like a lump of flesh to him, but upon closer inspection, her chest was moving.
The lump of flesh– the baby, rather, was still alive.
However, not for long.
To be precise, the dragon had just killed her.
She had come into contact with the blood.
Blood of dragons contained immense energy. The humans of the past had used it in sorcery and necromancy, but that said, it was distilled, a sliver of sliver before applying.
Undiluted blood was worse than the worst of poisons. Human… an infant at that, had no chance of surviving.
The lapings of the waves at the beach was as if to wash over the human’s life.
The dragon unfolds his silvery wings.
He was heading back to the sanctuary he lived in.
Dragons were not heartless. Though, the interpretation on life and death was just different from that of humans.
Weak beings die, the strong survive. That was the will of God as he created all beings.
[TN: Btw, I’m not quite sure if it should be God or gods, or whatever it should be, but I’ll go with God]
That was the verity, the teaching of God.
An infant, a grown man, none matter in the face of God.
Leaving the infant at the creek, the dragon shot away.
Time passed since then.
It could have been a week, perhaps a month.
The dragon flew past the fan-shaped creek. His appetite was asking for either an orca or a whale.
The creek was now clear of corpses, cleaned by the foaming white waves. The sand was now sparkling like stardust.
The dragon took a dive into the sea. Flooding his wings just before submerging, he took a streamline posture.
Five hundred meter from the island, deep in the sea, he found a whale. Since the dive, just a few seconds. He hadn’t expected to find one this fast, thank the fates.
[TN:Not the whale!!!]
The dragon loosened his jaw and took the whale from the side. The whale was larger than him, but the momentum was on the dragon’s side, as well as strength.
He bit into the stumpy whale and shot back to the surface in one smooth motion. With that velocity, the whale probably died by rapid pressure change before it even knew what happened to it.
[TN: Rip]
The dragon flicked this neck like a whip and let the whale loose.
The massive whale showered glittering droplets as it drew a beautiful curve towards the island. The leisuring seafowls scattered in a flurry of wings and feathers as the whale flew.
[TN:……………..]
The whale’s dead body crashed into the creek, the motion sent the small island shaking.
The dragon flew back to the island and began feasting on the whale.
Total length of eighty meters of meat, the dragon ingested a third of it, the rest would be for later.
As the dragon prepared to fly back to the sanctuary, the dragon noticed.
A Monkey-like creature.
It was the infant he saw some time ago. After that day, he had completely forgotten about it.
The dragon studied it with his blue eyes.
Being drenched in his blood and surviving , that meant…
The girl’s hair was black. Her eyes were the same color too. Her dress was for children, but of high quality. Perhaps she had tried washing the blood off in the sea, which is why the dress bore wrinkles and faded gray. It seemed that the girl was not very successful at that.
The infant stood on her two feet, hiding in the shade of a tree while looking at the dragon warily. She appeared to be starving, but very much alive.
The dragon immediately realized.
The dragons’ blood were showered on ten thousand people, and nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine died.
However, one lived. And the one who conquered the blood would be granted strength tantamount to the dragon.
This infant was one of the “Survivors”. That was why she was standing firm and tall despite her apparent age.
So that was it, the dragon thought.
Whether it was luck or destiny or God’s favoritism, the infant survived.
The dragon decided to let her live, and so he left.
Up in the sky, he swiveled back once in concern. Her skin was an ill yellow, taunt and parched. She drew closer to the whale and started feasting.
