Chapter 3- The Mother (H)
Proofreader: Nanoni
Feng’er’s ran with her two calves towards the main courtyard. Perhaps she was excited or her stomach was agitated, but she started to pant at a distance of no more than a dozen feet. She looked up at the plaque on the main courtyard door and started laughing, two white glutinous teeth showing more than usual.
In the Qimeng Pavillion 1 was where her mother lived. There are, of course, other girls there who are ranked high in the Garden, but her mother lived on the highest floor.
Feng’er gasped and took a deep, steadying breath as she intended to go up in a hurry. Her little cheeks puffed for a moment, “It doesn’t matter if you rank high, mother. You’ll still be exhausted when going up the stairs.” She rubbed her belly and lifted her leg to run into the house.
Just a few steps up the stairs, a shrill voice came up from behind her, “Feng Ya, 2 how can you come here! What is a child doing here in the Qimeng Pavillion?! Go back!”
Feng’er looked back with a scornful face, one can’t avoid one’s enemy! 3
At the nearest room behind the stairway, a yellow figure emerged from the door. With a thin yet tall figure bearing a jade-like little melon face and a pair of almond eyes which was too incompatible with the face. The yellow gauze clothes draped obliquely over her shoulders, hinting a somewhat charming attitude.
It was Jin Kui. 4 Since she was a child, this girl was very fond of Brother Jin. Whenever she met people, she would mumble that since both of them have “Jin” in their names, they must have been soul mates. Everyone was so annoyed that they would turn a deaf ear to it every time.
Until one day in class, Feng’er, who was fascinatedly watching the “Classic of Mountain and Seas” play, was suddenly dragged by Jin Kui to listen to her chatter. So in a fit of anger, she blurted out, “You will be a prostitute in the future. If you want to be in the same pavilion, 5 one has to serve men and the other will also have to serve men. Are you two marrying each other to serve men together?” 6
At that time, many girls and boys covered their mouths and tried not to laugh, but it was impossible for Jin Kui not to hear a few who sneered and laughed sarcastically. Her face flushed red then turned pale in an instant, and soon after, she ran out of the class in tears.
Moreover, she later discovered that Brother Jin and Feng’er were close to each other. Ever since then, the both of them have not seen eye to eye. But she dare not bully Feng’er because of her mother’s status. After Jin Kui’s menarche, she went to Guanju Hall 7 for training and they rarely met.
Now that Jin Kui appeared in the Qimeng Pavillion, it seems her training had been completed and she had officially received patrons. However, from the looks of it, she was living at the lowest level and it can be estimated that she had no rank at all.
“Hello, Sister Jin Kui. Feng’er congratulates you for completing your training ahead of schedule.” Feng’er remembered that her menarche came half a year ago. You have to train for two years according to the rules of the Garden, but she finished it half a year in advance.
The girl at the door shrugged her shoulders and let out a snort. “What are you doing here? Didn’t your mother teach you not to come here to the main courtyard? This is not a place you should be at. Get out!”
Feng’er knew that she was just not pleased to see her. She also didn’t want to dawdle any longer. She turned, continued to run upstairs, and shouted back, “My menarche had come, I’m not a child anymore. I’ll go find my mother. Goodbye, Sister Jin Kui!”
Jin Kui was completely dumbfounded. When the slanted gauze on her shoulder slipped and fell to the ground, she didn’t even notice nor picked it up. A passing boy couldn’t help but swallow his saliva while he looked at that fragrant shoulder.
Perhaps, except for Feng’er herself, any girl in the Garden would have the same reaction when they heard the news: The daughter of Huakui 8 had grown up.
Butterfly Garden had not elected a Haukui for five years. The two heads of the Garden thought that even if they had to elect again, it would still be Run Niang who would win the crown, just as she had reigned for five years in a row.
Although there were new beauties that constantly entered the courtyard every year, the beauties from the foreign lands from north to the south of the Western Region were as varied as the flowers blooming there, with each having their own merits. However, they all have one thing in common, that is, their popularity could not compare to Run Niang. 9
Run Niang was Feng’er’s mother.
Although a Huakui had not been selected for almost five years now, the ranking of girls in the Garden changed according to the value they build for themselves. In addition to the big list hung on the Huanxi Hall, 10 it was also reflected in the floor where they live. The higher they lived, the higher their value.
But if you think about it more, the less popular you are, the more you should stroll out to entice patron’s favors. By just sitting in front of the window while pretending to be sad, you can just show your face to attract people with more money than sense. 11 Then wouldn’t living low 12 be more convenient. 13
Feng’er rushed in as soon as she arrived at the door of her mother’s room. As she got inside, she bent over and supported her knees, lowered her head while panting, and shouted loudly, “Mother! My menarche came!”
How could she have thought that this noon, her mother’s upper mouth was hungry so she stuffed her lower mouth full of meat stick even though it was too watery while eating it.
When Feng’er broke into the room, Run Niang was sitting naked on the center table. Her two slender and fair legs were coiled around the waist of a tanned middle-aged man. Her body undulated from the man’s unruly pumping. The spilled lewd water that dripped beyond the edge of the table had gathered a small evident stain on the ground.
Run Niang had a perfectly proportioned body, her skin was fairer than snow. A pair of big breasts like two water muskmelons dangled on her chest, its enticing fragrance overflowing as if luring someone to bite it.
The man’s head lowered and pushed between those breasts before biting into it. He wished he could suffocate in the sweet softness but he didn’t have any thoughts left to spare as his pity did not last long. As he pushed his penis deep into the wet flower hole between Run Niang’s legs, every thrust would elicit her whole body to tremble with her head tipped back. Her scattered black silk hair swept across her peach-like plump lips that let out broken heart throbbing moans.
“Ah… Lord… why are you bullying me again… It’s been a long time… Let Run Niang have lunch… Lord, bite gently on my nipples… My… lord… Ahhh… Please let me come… Hurry up and peck your bird in my bliss point… 14 Hahh… Slow down a little. That’s it… Mm-hmm… My lord… “
“Am I not the one who said you can eat?… Isn’t it my lady’s fault? Earlier you insisted on eating my essence first… Since it’s hardened, there’s no reason for you not to eat… Oh! My lady is so tight… Why are you tightening more… Why? Can’t you see Feng’er’s here… Ah?! Feng’er!”
Hehe. What does it mean to have sexual intercourse? Feng’er doesn’t know, but her world widened at this moment as she finally got firsthand experience to know-how.
Run Niang noticed that the man in her arms stopped moving, and the meat stick in her cave seemed to be gearing for a retreat. But she was just at that most important moment. To almost come but be denied release made her dissatisfied so she tightened her legs, loosened her arms hanging on his neck, and propped it behind her. With this support, she changed from the passive to the active one. She lifted her lotus breast while at the same time her slim hips drew a circle on the man’s firm meat stick.
She knew better where her bliss point was, and at what frequency was the best way to reach climax — a few rounds of nine shallow and one deep. So Run Niang can’t say anything except “mm-hmm” and “ahh,” after several wet thrusts. As her legs caged the man in front of her, she moaned a charming and loud cry, and with a tremble from head to toe, she tipped over and came.
Meanwhile, the man gave a low groan, pumped his waist a few more times before shooting into Run Niang’s drenched hole.
A few moments later, Run Niang gently put her head on the man’s shoulder and turned her face to Feng’er. She slowly opened her eyes still filled with passion.
“A brash child that doesn’t know how to knock on the door. As soon as she had her menarche she dared to watch her mother’s spring palace. 15 See if this old mother doesn’t find the thickest meat to break your flower.”

Qimeng Pavillion (栖夢樓): Perch Dream Pavillion Feng Ya (鳳丫): Feng girl. She’s basically calling her that to emphasize her seniority. She’s being salty. Enemies on a narrow road (冤家路窄): (idiom) inevitable clash between opposing factions. Jin Kui (是錦葵): a mallow plant. It’s a type of plant mainly used for medicine. Such as irritation of the mouth and throat, dry cough, constipation, and other uses. Basically, it’s one of the most common plants. Just a bit of an overview: There are many pavilions in Butterfly Garden. It was a big compound that housed many pavilions/halls. Some of the few are:
1) Qimeng Pavilion where ranked prostitutes reside.
2) Chun Hui House where the children stayed until their coming of age.
3) Huanxi Hall , the function hall where the biddings, revelries, and celebrations are held.
4) Guanju Hall was where the courtesan-in training lived.
5) Lang Yue Pavilion where the men stayed which will be introduced in the later chapters. T/N: Lmao. Feng Ya is so hardcore in trash talking. Guanju Hall (關雎館): Osprey Hall/Schoolroom. The word Guan Ju (關雎) came from the preface of the “The Book of Songs”. It is part of the Chinese poem, which basically evokes, “the cry of Osprey over the river islet.” Huakui (花魁): the queen of flowers (refers esp. to plum blossom) |was a name given to a courtesan/prostitute who was very popular and highly regarded for her beauty. Run Niang (潤娘): Lady Run. Huanxi Hall (歡喜廳): Hall of Joy. People with more money than sense (冤大頭): spendthrift and foolish. Living low (方便): makes things easy so she could have more money/ to relieve herself. (euphemism) T/N: This was Feng’er rationalizing how the system is inconvenient from her point of view. But she was a child and she does not know the connotations of such a position. Why they were important in the first place, and the value of “the harder to get/reach, the more desirable it is.” People who live low and have to go out of the streets to sell themselves were low-class prostitutes, and do not have much selling value aside from their body. These girls do not have good prospects with patrons and their safety is very much in question compared to high-ranking courtesans.
High ranking courtesans, on the other hand, go through a strict selection of patrons. Unless they are powerful and wealthy enough, they cannot be on the shortlist. This also entails strict regulations of safety and proper practices(no breaking her) during sexual acts. The reason the patrons are restricted, or even allow themselves to follow that law even if they are powerful enough to disregard it, was because a Huakui is a symbol of the whole Red-Light District, by damaging that super expensive commodity, you damage the whole House itself. These kinds of Houses/Courtyards generally have connections to either the royalty or multiple powerful aristocratic families. Most importantly, a Huakui does not only have one patron. This means she is backed by another powerful man you can’t afford to offend. Bliss point (極樂點): G-spot Spring Palace (活春宮): Live-action porn/sexual intercourse.
