Fu Changling hovered and descended at a rapid speed. He curiously raised his head to see that the black mist had bit down on Qin Yan’s shoulder, ripping away a piece of flesh. Qin Yan had fallen into the transportation array at the last moment, and he was running towards him, reaching out with a hand.
Qin Yan’s blood sprayed across Fu Changling’s face, whereas Fu Changling’s eyes widened as Qin Yan came up close to him.
Why was he chasing after him?
To run after him in this sort of situation, when the wraith was attacking him from the back; didn’t he want his life anymore?
Fu Changling found Qin Yan’s logic incomprehensible. He watched as Qin Yan fixed his gaze on him with fury seething in his eyes. Then, he didn’t know what Qin Yan had seen but a momentary terror had flashed across his eyes. After a while, his face turned cold as he shot through the air with his sword, spiritual energy coming in rolling waves. Fu Changling’s senses returned to him instantly. This air that Qin Yan carried was unmistakably going for his life after he’d burned the bridge earlier!
Even if he didn’t know what Qin Yan was thinking, it was doubtless that Qin Yan wanted to kill him. Qin Yan’s sword almost made it to him and Fu Changling feared that he might actually perish in this place then and there.
He finally gave in and casted a Royal Wind Seal. A wind as light as one that guided a sailing ship sent Fu Changling towards a swift departure and the one created by his golden fan turned into something as sharp as a thousand knives, heading towards Qin Yan.
Qin Yan didn’t slow down. His body averted those attacking waves of wind at an inhuman speed, his sword headed for Fu Changling’s neck.
His sword was merciless. Fu Changling instinctively muttered an Invisibility Shield Seal, and at the same time, drew a dozen talismans and shot them towards Qin Yan’s head.
He had fought far too many times with Qin Yan. He was far too familiar with his techniques.
Even so, just as he thought that his tender opponent would be defeated, Qin Yan managed to close up their distance before the Invisibility Shield Seal and those dozen Electrical Shock Talismans could hit him.
The tip of his sword shot out like a spiritual snake, striking more than a dozen times effortlessly. Even at such speed, each strike came at him with a force of thunderous lightning.
Fu Changling was thoroughly shocked by this version of Qin Yan.
He could never have thought that seventeen-year-old Qin Yan could have such capabilities! Qin Yan was also obviously stunned by his performance, for later on came a brief and delayed inertness. Qin Yan immediately switched into a new approach and attacked with an upsurge of spiritual energy.
With one of them being a nascent soul and the other only a foundation establishment, Fu Changling didn’t dare take him head-on. He immediately surrendered and squeaked as he avoided his attacks, “Qin-ge[20]! Let us have a proper talk! Let's sit down and have a talk regardless of conditions!”
Qin Yan paid him no attention. He continued to force him into retreat.
Fu Changling didn’t see where he was going in his frenzy. He could feel his movements gradually falling slack the more he moved and quickly said, “Fellow Cultivator Qin, please calm down! We are not even sure what situation we’re in! If you continue to fight in such a manner, won’t you alert some of the higher authorities?!”
Qin Yan’s sword didn’t stop. Seeing that he was unable to be convinced, Fu Changling finally grew furious, scolding as he avoided attacks, “Fine, Qin Yan! I knew that you didn’t come with good intentions! I knew that you hold evil intentions against me! How dare you say you’re helping me when you’ve been thinking of killing me all along?!”
Qin Yan’s sword narrowly cut past Fu Changling’s golden guan. Fu Changling’s guan was split into two halves and he fell to the ground, rolling. He inhaled a breath of cold air and scolded even more viciously, “What’s all the talk about a true gentleman? What’s the talk about being a role model of the Immortal Path. From the way I see it, you’re just an ungrateful pup with the wild heart of wolves. In the future, Yunze will perish in your hands. You chap, you traitor…”
“Talkative.”
After he finished speaking, Qin Yan failed his final attempt to fish for information and his long sword came like rolling thunder. Fu Changling found nowhere to hide, and so he could only take it in flesh and bone. A sword glare, a force that made his hands feel like crumbling mountains sent him shooting into the opposite direction. He spat out a mouthful of blood and finally gave away, falling to the floor abruptly and passed out. “Dong!”He fell through the roof of a house and straight into the depths of the dirt.
As Fu Changling sprawled across the ground, he heard a thundering sound from above him and then someone shrieked, “It’s fallen!”
Everyone shrieked, “The temple has fallen!”
And then, everyone asked, “Who are you?!”
Qin Yan’s cold voice said, “Make way.”
“Oh, I know,” one person said. “You're in the same league with that fella who destroyed our temple!”
Qin Yan said nothing. He gritted his teeth. “Make way, or I will be otherwise be blunt!”
“Blunt? Who are you talking to? Do you know what place this is….Ah!”
Someone squealed and then there was a dull sound of something hitting the ground.
Fu Changling played dead as he listened to the commotion going on outside.
He could hear that there weren’t many people outside, as well as that they had started a fight with Qin Yan. He could even hear Qin Yan passing out. Qin Yan was, after all, just forcing himself to fight him all these time ever since he endured a sneak attack from the wraith. The moment he slowed down, his body had given away, as Fu Changling had expected.
Fu Changling knew that at that moment, he must be having a swollen nose and face. He could not afford everyone to see such an imperfect image of himself, for that would destroy a lifetime of reputation.
He hoped that everyone could just ignore him, forget about him, and just consider him dead.
But the odds were not in his favour. The more he wished against something, the more it would come true.
After any sounds of Qin Yan ceased, a group of people had gathered and removed the boulders and debris on top of him and dug him out from the dirt.
An obviously muscular man grabbed his collar emotionally and barked at him, “Don’t play dead, motherfucker! Open your eyes, open your eyes and see what sins you’ve committed!”
Fu Changling said nothing. He closed his eyes as if he had passed out, revealing an expression like he was in pain and even coughing out some blood for an additional touch so that he’d appear weak, fragile, and pitiful in front of the muscular man.
He thought that anyone who had a conscience would not overly mistreat such a pitiful little him.
This trick proved effective. Among the group of people, a young maiden’s voice came in worried tones, “Big Brother Wang, he seems to have passed out.”
“What should we do?”
“Let me try.”
The maiden came up close to him. Fu Changling closed his eyes, and thought, how simple and kind the people here are.
Just as he thought that, the maiden came up close to him and touched his face. Before Fu Changling could react to it, a dozen slaps came at him with high frequency. He was unprepared, unexpecting, and yet she’d mercilessly gave him such a greeting!
As the air was filled with the sound of her slaps, the maiden’s gentle and soft voice instructed, “Big brother Wang, with a few more slaps like this, he will wake up.
Slap, slap, slap, slap, slap.
Those dozen slaps had proven effective. This made Fu Changling acknowledge immediately that feigning being fragile with these people was no use.
Anger seethed from his bones. Amid the clearly heard slaps from the young maiden, his eyes abruptly flickered open and grabbed her hand, shouting loudly, “Enough!”
Everyone was stunned. Fu Changling cockily thought that he had scared them stiff but just as he was about to speak, the muscular man from his back rose to his feet and faced him. He grabbed his hair and raised him up, angrily saying, “Since you’ve woken up, open your eyes widely and take a look at what ‘good deeds’ you’ve done!”
Fu Changling felt a headache coming as he submissively allowed the muscular man to raise his head. A desolated piece of land greeted him and he impatiently said, “I saw it. The building collapsed. I’ll just pay for it, alright?”
As he spoke, he fished out his spiritual sachet but before he could take out his spiritual stones, the muscular man leaned into his ear and threatened, “Building? Take a closer look—this is a temple! This is our religion! It’s almost the time for a sacrificial ritual and you’ve demolished the temple, so what are you intending to pay with?!”
Fu Changling was finally angry. He grabbed the muscular man, his expression and voice turning cold, “I reckon you not to push your luck, or I will otherwise be blunt!”
He seemed to have successfully threatened the muscular man. But only then did Fu Changling notice that the person in front of him had no pupils in his eyes!
He was wearing a white robe, a linen rope tied around his waist, showing his measurements. He looked nothing different from a normal person but the whites of his eyes were empty. He had no pupils at all!
Fu Changling’s breath quickened.
A temple, and townspeople with no eyes…
Before he could call out that name, the muscular man grabbed his hair again and banged his head against the surface of the ground. As he was being abused, a rhythmic voice said, “Blunt? Who are you going to be blunt with?! Have you got the hang of what’s going on now?!”
