Chapter 1

As the sun rose, a vast and faint mist enveloped the sky. A clear and crisp chirp echoed like celestial music. The mist dispersed, and a bird flew across the sky. Beneath its wings lay a brand new world bathed in sunlight.
August, Seoul, South Korea.
The scorching summer had arrived.
In the city, which felt like a steaming cauldron, cars moved freely like fish, stirring up waves of heat for the pedestrians on the sidewalks.
Occasionally, the heat waves would swirl into the back alley of the Crown Pearl Nightclub, colliding with an old van.
In the stifling and cramped van, the air and breath intertwined, mingled, and swirled, compressing and expanding in the small space before bursting like fireworks.
"Pfft."
A fart suddenly sounded.
"Oh... the 99th one!"
Kim Yunho helplessly slapped his forehead. "I said, can you stop farting? The air in this broken car is already bad, and the air conditioning is broken. Can't you stop causing trouble?"
To prevent the smell from spreading, Shin Donghae, sitting beside him, tightly clutched his buttocks and chuckled, "Hehe, sorry, boss. I'm just too nervous! Just thinking about the mission later makes me nervous, and when I get nervous, I... hehe."
"Hehe—your sister! You've been farting all day. Should I apply for a Guinness World Record for you?
And if I die from your farts, it would be considered a line-of-duty death. If it's not, and I don't get a consolation payment, I won't let you off even in death."
Kim Yunho had a makeshift gas mask made from a handkerchief on his face, but he had already taken it off—useless!
He had long given up on 'treatment.'
"Hehe..." Shin Donghae scratched his head and continued to chuckle.
Kim Yunho was a trainee prosecutor, and Shin Donghae was his assistant—also a trainee.
It was their first mission, and they had encountered such a 'tricky' problem that Kim Yunho had already started thinking about his posthumous affairs.
The car was locked, and to maintain the secrecy of their ambush, the two of them endured the smell of farts.
Kim Yunho's mission was to "crack down on prostitution," organized by the Seoul Gangnam District Prosecutors' Office.
Kim Yunho and Shin Donghae were a team, and there were four other teams of trainee prosecutors ambushing the area. The five teams would soon raid the nightclub suspected of prostitution and gambling.
Finally, it was dark.
The streetlights came on, and the sky seemed to be in a good mood, sending a gentle breeze that brought a hint of coolness to the stifling air.
The pungent smell of alcohol and an indescribable fragrance occasionally wafted into the van, making the already restless duo even more agitated.
Shin Donghae kept fiddling with the handcuffs and baton in front of him, muttering, "Ah... alcohol and sex, both sources of evil, should be eliminated."
Hearing this, Kim Yunho was flabbergasted. He really wanted to ask, "Without sex, where would you come from?"
But seeing Shin Donghae's serious and formal expression, he dropped the idea.
Shin Donghae was too upright, and making such a joke with an upright person would be boring and might even lead to a falling out.
Although Kim Yunho didn't respond, Shin Donghae's enthusiasm remained undiminished. He said with passion, "I hope we can catch some drugs and a few big drug lords during the raid."
Kim Yunho's lips twitched. He thought to himself, what kind of assistant had he gotten? Not only did he constantly fart, but he also liked to fantasize.
Big drug lords? Do you think these people are cabbages, to be bought by the pound?
Shin Donghae suddenly thought of something and looked at Kim Yunho with bright eyes. "Boss, you're 25 this year, right? To become a trainee prosecutor at such a young age, that's really impressive!"
Kim Yunho didn't understand why he suddenly said this, but he modestly replied, "Hehe, it's okay."
He originally lived in China and was once an elite police officer. Later, he mysteriously traveled to Korea and became a child. Over a decade had passed.
With the experience of two lifetimes and over a decade of preparation, he didn't think his current position was something to be proud of. If it weren't for the disadvantage of being young, he would have been a trainee prosecutor three years ago.
Before Kim Yunho could bask in his own glory, Shin Donghae revealed his quirky nature, leaning forward and asking mysteriously, "Boss, do you have a gun? What if there's a gunfight later?"
Kim Yunho was truly exasperated. He slapped his forehead and answered with a twitching lip:
"Please! It's just a crackdown on prostitution, not the kind of big scene you're imagining. And I'm a trainee prosecutor, so I don't have the right to carry a gun."
Hearing that Kim Yunho didn't have a gun, Shin Donghae disappointedly said, "Oh," but he automatically filtered out Kim Yunho's objections and firmly believed there would be a big scene.
At this moment, the Bluetooth earpiece, which had been silent for a long time, finally transmitted a loud and passionate male voice:
"Attention all teams! This is the Chief Prosecutor. The operation will begin in five minutes! This is your first mission, and I hope you all show your skills and abilities!
The Gangnam Police Division will support this operation. The police will secure the exits of the nightclub and control the crowd. As for what you can find, it depends on your performance."
Finally, he wouldn't have to endure Shin Donghae's torture anymore. Kim Yunho felt a great sense of relief and, for the first time, found the Chief Prosecutor's voice pleasant.
Upon receiving the order, Kim Yunho and Shin Donghae began to prepare: synchronizing their watches, organizing their batons and handcuffs, and counting down.
The operation began.
At the Chief Prosecutor's command, over twenty police officers emerged from all directions, instantly surrounding the nightclub.
Kim Yunho and Shin Donghae took the lead. As the other teams of prosecutors rushed into the lobby, they had already broken through the security guards' blockade, leaped over the bar, and grabbed the manager who was trying to alert others.
The music in the hall abruptly stopped, and the hostesses screamed in shock. The guests either looked at each other in confusion or fled in panic.
The scene was chaotic.
Kim Yunho scanned the area and found everything 'normal,' finding it uninteresting and pouting.
This crackdown on prostitution was supposed to give them a taste of the real world. However, with such a large-scale operation, it was hard to believe it was just for practice. It likely contained an element of evaluation.
The big shots probably wanted to see which prosecutor performed better during the operation.
As for what constituted excellent performance, that depended on individual interpretation and ability.
Kim Yunho had already formed a plan in his mind.
Raiding such a nightclub mainly involved checking for prostitution and drugs.
Prostitution carried the lightest penalty, a fine, and a seven-day detention; drug use carried a moderate penalty, usually a year in a rehabilitation center; drug trafficking carried the heaviest penalty, with a minimum of several years in prison, depending on the amount. This was the easiest way to stand out and receive a good evaluation.
Therefore, he had no interest in the 'small fish' on the first floor. After questioning the manager and searching the bar, he led Shin Donghae up the emergency stairs to the second floor.
The nightclub's interior was very luxurious, with excellent soundproofing. Even though the first floor was in chaos, the second floor remained quiet and peaceful.
Kim Yunho held back Shin Donghae, who was about to act, shook his head, and made a gesture to stay calm.
Then, he pressed the Bluetooth earpiece and said slowly and clearly, "Chief Prosecutor, this is Trainee Prosecutor Kim Yunho from Team 2. I have found something unusual on the second floor. Please instruct the police outside to watch the windows on the second floor. I suspect that suspects might try to escape through the windows."
After a two-second pause, the Chief Prosecutor's voice, somewhat surprised, came through the earpiece: "Understood, please be careful."
With all preparations in place, Kim Yunho smiled mysteriously and, when he reached the first private room, loudly announced, "I am a prosecutor from Seoul. We are conducting a surprise inspection. Please open the door and accept the inspection."
As soon as he finished speaking, a commotion erupted inside the room. Kim Yunho listened carefully and, with a regretful shake of his head, instructed Shin Donghae, "Repeat what I just said."
Although Shin Donghae was confused, he followed the order.
After Shin Donghae repeated the announcement several times, Kim Yunho noticed something unusual.
In the other rooms, the guilty guests were all fleeing in panic, some even jumping out of the windows, turning the corridor into a chaotic mess. But the room at the end of the corridor remained closed and silent, as if no one was inside.
A few inspection announcements had already thrown the other guests into disarray, but Kim Yunho had no interest in these 'small fish.'
He tiptoed to the door of the unusual room, pressed his ear to it, and listened carefully.
Unfortunately, he heard nothing.
Was it a dead end?
Kim Yunho shook his head and smiled victoriously.
He had caught a faint smell of tea through the door crack. The tea scent was light but fresh, only possible if the tea had just been brewed with boiling water. There was definitely someone in the room!
Strange! The more unusual, the more suspicious—drug trafficking? Or a money-power deal? Or some other secret?
Regardless, Kim Yunho was now certain that the person in the room was the 'big fish' of this operation.
He drew his baton from his waist, twirled it a few times, and smiled confidently and coldly.
His shiny leather shoes, neatly pressed trousers, and wrinkle-free white shirt, though simple, exuded a wild charm on him. Combined with his cold smile and the baton twirl, he looked incredibly cool.
Shin Donghae followed behind, holding his baton in one hand and his buttocks in the other, and whispered, "Boss, should we break the door?"
Kim Yunho glanced at Shin Donghae's odd posture, feeling exasperated: Can't this guy act normally? This is a serious moment; can't he take his hand off his buttocks? We're on a case! Be professional!
He didn't argue with Shin Donghae about his hand on his buttocks and instead took out a universal key card from his pocket, which he had taken from the bar.
With a "click," the door opened a crack.
Kim Yunho moved cautiously, about to peek inside, but Shin Donghae, unable to contain himself, shouted, "No movement! Inspection!"
Damn it! Kim Yunho really wanted to kick him!
Anyone could see that this room was suspicious. It could be a big scene! The ultimate boss might be in there, and it was time to make a move!
He could almost see the promotion, the raise, the position as a prosecutor, the appointment as a chief prosecutor, the marriage to a rich and beautiful woman, and the peak of his life. Just thinking about it made him a little excited.
But Shin Donghae's loud shout had ruined their advantage.
With no choice, Kim Yunho swung his baton forward and shouted, "Prosecutor! Everyone, don't move!"
Shin Donghae squeezed in, gripping his baton tightly and repeating, "Don't move!"
"Pfft."
Immediately, a third sound followed—a fart, and it was Shin Donghae's 100th of the day.
"..." Kim Yunho.
Damn it! After smelling farts all day, he could tolerate it, but at such a serious, critical, and tense moment, what kind of trouble was he causing by farting? How much it ruined the atmosphere!
He really wanted to ask Shin Donghae, "Are you a monkey's little joker?"
Unfortunately, the timing was wrong. They were on a case!
Kim Yunho ignored Shin Donghae's quirks.
The door was now fully open, and he quickly scanned the room.
Good grief, it was a whole different world.
