When Jin Yunho left the private room, the secretary at the door handed him a thick file.
Back in the car, Shen Donghai couldn't wait to ask, "Boss, what's going on?"
Jin Yunho ignored him and started reading the file.
"Boss, what's really going on?"
"Boss, what are you looking at?"
"Boss, why aren't you talking? Did someone cast a spell on you?"
Jin Yunho had a big '井' (well) mark on his forehead and said helplessly, "Drive, let's find a noodle shop to eat first."
"Oh," Shen Donghai shrugged in response.
However, before the car had driven far, Jin Yunho received a call from the District Prosecutor's Office, informing him to return as the Chief Prosecutor wanted to see him.
"Really quick!" Jin Yunho muttered.
---
This was Jin Yunho's first time in the Chief Prosecutor's office.
His first impression was that it was huge! His second impression was the same!
The 200-square-meter office could even be used for basketball if two hoops were installed. The interior was extremely modern, with black and white office furniture of very high quality, giving the entire office a sense of luxury and grandeur.
Chief Prosecutor Park Kuk-kyun finished reviewing several documents before speaking, "Sigh... Your performance yesterday was excellent, even giving me a refreshing feeling. I wanted to keep you by my side, but unfortunately, you chose another path and walked with her."
Jin Yunho remained calm, but a bitter smile hung on his lips, "When a good hunter sets his sights on you, a rookie like me can't escape his trap."
Park Kuk-kyun shook his head, neither confirming nor denying, "Since it's a done deal, you need to perform well. Li Xiaoran is a capable person, and her family is a good backing. I hope you will do well. Your transfer will be delayed until you complete your deal with her. Go and get busy."
"Yes, Chief Prosecutor, I'll take my leave," Jin Yunho bowed and said.
---
After leaving the Chief Prosecutor's office, Shen Donghai appeared like a ghost, "Boss, what's going on?"
"We have a new case now," Jin Yunho patted his shoulder and said with a relaxed smile.
Between the Chief Prosecutor and Li Xiaoran, Jin Yunho was forced to choose the latter, and the gains and losses were hard to weigh. However, since he had made his choice, he had to walk the path firmly. A fence-sitter can never grow into a big tree.
"Let's go to Seoul National University," Jin Yunho said, shaking off the dark thoughts in his mind and looking spirited.
On the way, Jin Yunho carefully reviewed Li Minjun's information and explained the basic case details to Shen Donghai. However, he did not tell Shen Donghai about the hidden deal behind it. If he failed this case, he might face severe punishment, and he didn't want to involve Shen Donghai.
The victim, Li Minjun, was a fourth-year student in the Law and Politics Department at Seoul National University. After arriving, Jin Yunho first visited the department's head professor.
Koreans place a high value on cultural knowledge, and the social status of intellectuals is very high. Professors at Seoul National University must be personally appointed by the President of South Korea. If ordinary government officials wanted to visit the head professor of Seoul National University, it would be impossible to meet them.
Thanks to Jin Yunho's status as a trainee prosecutor and his excellent performance at the Judicial Research Institute, he was granted an exception to meet the head professor, Choi Joon-deok.
"Professor Choi, hello. I am Jin Yunho, a student from the 03 batch of the Judicial Research Institute," Jin Yunho bowed 90 degrees and introduced himself respectfully.
There was no way around it; he had to follow local customs. These etiquettes were essential for survival in Korean society.
Professor Choi Joon-deok was a man in his sixties with a strong scholarly aura. He felt a sense of kinship with a fellow scholar in the law and politics field, "Hehe, hello. I've heard your name before; you were quite remarkable at the Judicial Research Institute a few years ago."
Jin Yunho scratched his head awkwardly and said modestly, "Hehe, you flatter me."
Professor Choi waved his hand, interrupting, "No need to be modest. Being the top student in every exam at the Judicial Research Institute is a testament to your abilities. Tell me, what brings you here today? You didn't come just to see this old man, did you?"
Professor Choi joked kindly, but Jin Yunho did not dare to be casual and remained respectful, "Actually, the students in the Law and Politics Department are all elites, and many of them will become my juniors in the future. I want to get to know these people and communicate with them in advance."
"Oh?" Professor Choi was somewhat surprised, not expecting Jin Yunho's purpose to be this straightforward.
Korea places great importance on seniority. Seniors in a school or organization can discipline their juniors, even physically. The senior-junior relationship is also a crucial social network in Korean society, often very solid. Some people from the legal and political fields had previously come to Seoul National University to privately interact with students and build relationships. However, Jin Yunho's direct approach was the first time for Professor Choi.
He asked curiously, "Why are you telling me this? If you want to privately contact some students, I don't object."
"Hehe, to be honest, after graduating from the Judicial Research Institute, I didn't immediately become a trainee prosecutor but was sent to the United States for three years of further study. So most of my relationships have faded, and I don't know many people. Instead of spending time privately contacting a single student, I thought it would be better to seek your permission to share my experience with the students, allowing me to meet more of them."
Jin Yunho was now in a difficult position. He wanted to investigate the case but couldn't follow the normal procedures, so he had to conduct a private investigation. However, Seoul National University, being the top university in Korea, was not a place where he could act freely, leading him to come up with this 'besiege Wei to save Zhao' strategy.
"Hehe, you have ideas and creativity. Although it might seem a bit hasty, it won't harm my students. Hearing from the top student will greatly benefit them. Alright, I agree. I'll have the administration arrange a time for you to give a lecture to the students," Professor Choi laughed heartily.
However, Jin Yunho continued with some difficulty, "Professor Choi, could you arrange it for today? I'll officially become a prosecutor next week, and my schedule might be tight then."
"Is that so? I'll check," Professor Choi understood the busy nature of a prosecutor's work and sympathized with Jin Yunho's situation, but he also didn't want to miss this opportunity, so he was very cooperative.
A few minutes later, they agreed. At 7 PM, in a multimedia classroom, Jin Yunho would give a lecture to the fourth-year Law and Politics students, sharing his experience with the bar exam. Jin Yunho would be the lecturer, and the school would be responsible for organizing the students and arranging the venue.
The plan went smoothly. It was now 4 PM, and there were three hours before the lecture. Jin Yunho planned to use this time to conduct some preliminary investigations.
First, he and Shen Donghai went to the scene of the incident, but they didn't find any useful clues. The scene was normal, with no signs of a struggle.
Next, they investigated Li Minjun's roommates.
After 6 PM, most students had finished dinner and returned to their dorms to rest.
It was at this time that Jin Yunho and Shen Donghai arrived at Li Minjun's dorm.
After introducing themselves and explaining the purpose of the lecture, the other three roommates were very enthusiastic, bombarding Jin Yunho with questions about the bar exam.
Jin Yunho briefly shared a few points and used the excuse of "preparing for the lecture later" to dismiss the overly enthusiastic trio. He then began to steer the conversation towards the case.
"Oh, right, I almost forgot. Where's Li Minjun? An elder asked me to take care of him, but I haven't seen him."
The three roommates reacted differently.
One shrugged, spread his hands, and shook his head, indicating he didn't know.
Another remained silent.
The last one hesitated for a moment before speaking, "We're not sure. We haven't seen him since three days ago after dinner. We heard he was sick and went home for treatment."
Jin Yunho had been observing their reactions carefully. The first and third roommates' reactions were normal, but the second, who remained silent, caught his attention.
"May I ask, what's your name, classmate?"
"Hello, senior, my name is Kim Hong-gi," the silent one stood up, bowed, and answered respectfully.
"Hehe, no need to be formal, sit down. Do you know what illness Li Minjun has?" Jin Yunho looked straight at Kim Hong-gi and asked with a smile.
Kim Hong-gi nodded slightly and then shook his head, "I'm not sure. His phone is unreachable, but his family took leave for him. He might be seriously ill. I'm not sure, but we're not very clear on the situation and were planning to visit him."
Jin Yunho smiled mysteriously, patted Kim Hong-gi's shoulder to show understanding, and then chatted about Li Minjun's and the roommates' life at school, acting like a senior concerned about his juniors.
Seeing that the time was almost up, Jin Yunho concluded the conversation, "Gentlemen, I'm sorry, that's all for today. I need to prepare for the lecture. See you in the classroom later."
After leaving with Shen Donghai, Jin Yunho slowly walked on the stone path in the campus.
Seeing no one around, Shen Donghai asked urgently, "Boss, did you find anything?"
Jin Yunho recalled the conversation, his expression thoughtful, and answered subconsciously, "Hmm, there are some suspicious points, but we need to investigate further. What about you? Did you find anything when you checked Li Minjun's belongings?"
Shen Donghai pouted in disappointment and replied, "No, everything was normal. Baseball equipment, Girls' Generation CDs, entertainment and movie magazines, and a StarCraft game in his notebook. Just a typical college student. Oh, and I found a notebook on his bed, but it was filled with movie knowledge, which I couldn't understand."
Jin Yunho wasn't discouraged but smiled happily, "Everything being normal is also a discovery. Now we know more about the victim: he loves sports, follows entertainment, and is interested in movies. He's not a bookworm but someone who is passionate about life."
Shen Donghai agreed with this summary and asked, "Boss, what do we do next?"
Jin Yunho pointed to the nearby teaching building and said with a smile, "Hehe, give a lecture to the fledglings!"
