Inside the prosecutor's office hall.
After finishing his Jajangmyeon, Kim Yun-ho tidied up a bit. This kind of work used to be Shin Dong-hae's job, but now the guy had disappeared, so he had to do it himself.
Seeing that Kim Yun-ho had finished his meal, Lee Seo-ran couldn't wait to start asking about the case's progress.
Kim Yun-ho held nothing back, recounting everything that had happened today and the new clues he had just discovered.
After listening, Lee Seo-ran seemed a bit angry and asked sternly, "What makes you think there's something wrong with my brother's grades? He is very upright and would never cheat."
Kim Yun-ho wasn't surprised. He had experienced many similar situations: family members usually get emotionally agitated when they hear unfavorable investigative conclusions about their loved ones. Some even fly into a rage. Lee Seo-ran's reaction was relatively composed.
He leaned back in his chair, hands behind his head, with an air of "you don't understand": "I'm just following my reasoning and investigating the case in my style. Whether your brother is innocent or not will depend on the investigation results."
Lee Seo-ran bit her lip and said fiercely, "Fine! I want to see what kind of results you can come up with. I'll go with you tomorrow."
Kim Yun-ho felt a headache coming on. Women were indeed a troublesome bunch, especially in investigations:
"I have to warn you, the results might please you or disappoint you. You need to be mentally prepared. In investigations, I only follow the evidence and put everything else aside. So, if you come along, I might not be able to consider your feelings."
Lee Seo-ran sniffed lightly, with a confident expression. She clearly had great trust in Lee Min-joon.
Seeing her determination, Kim Yun-ho stopped trying to persuade her and asked, "Has your brother's classmates and teachers seen you? I don't want the suspect to recognize you."
Lee Seo-ran lifted her chin slightly, "Don't worry. Min-joon's identity has always been kept secret, and outsiders don't know. Besides, I look like my mother, and he looks like my father, so no one can tell. Also, I'm a student at Seoul University, so it won't be surprising to see me there."
"OK, you win. I have no objections." Kim Yun-ho shrugged.
"Good, it's settled then. Since you have no objections, it's my turn to ask. What makes you think this is a crime of passion?" Lee Seo-ran asked her question.
Kim Yun-ho smiled confidently and explained:
"It's simple. Crimes of passion usually happen between acquaintances. The crime scene was at school, and there were no signs of a struggle, which means the perpetrator was someone Min-joon knew. If it were a premeditated crime, the perpetrator wouldn't choose a crowded campus. This is a typical crime of passion."
Lee Seo-ran: "Then why do you think it was caused by pressure?"
...
The Q&A session continued for a long time.
At some point, the conversation gradually faded, and the room became quiet. Both of them fell asleep.
In a remote corner, Shin Dong-hae was already snoring, his snores intermittent.
---
At 6 AM, Kim Yun-ho woke up on time.
He stretched widely, got up, and went to the window.
Outside, the sun had just risen above the tall buildings, and the sunlight filtered through the clouds, like countless dragons spewing golden waterfalls.
He opened the window, lit a cigarette, and smoked contentedly.
A cool breeze blew past his face, entered the room, and gently caressed the sleeping Lee Seo-ran.
In her sleep, she smiled, her pale cheeks turning slightly rosy in the morning light. She looked incredibly beautiful. Her lips were slightly pursed, and she mumbled incoherently, perhaps complaining about the breeze disturbing her dream.
Soon, she opened her eyes halfway, rubbed her sleepy eyes with her small, white hands, and pouted, looking very cute.
"Awake?" Kim Yun-ho, who had turned around at some point, smiled and asked.
"Ah?... Yes, awake." Lee Seo-ran fumbled with her disheveled hair, covered her cheeks with her hands, and said, looking down.
Then, she asked for the direction to the restroom, grabbed her red handbag, and hurriedly left.
"Hehe, interesting." Kim Yun-ho rubbed his chin and laughed.
He didn't expect that beneath Lee Seo-ran's dignified and noble appearance, there was such a cute side. For her brother's case, she came to ask about the investigation late at night, ignoring her need for rest. To prove her brother's innocence, she was willing to join the investigation, even sharing a room with a man.
She was a sister full of love and respect.
Thinking about this, Kim Yun-ho felt much lighter and was no longer as averse to her joining the investigation.
However, his good mood didn't last long. He was annoyed that Shin Dong-hae had disappeared and needed to call him. There was no office allowance now, and phone calls were expensive.
After finding Shin Dong-hae, the two men started to freshen up.
Kim Yun-ho had a new shirt in his desk drawer, originally prepared for emergencies, which came in handy today.
Wearing leather shoes, a suit, and a white shirt, he looked simple and clean. His robust and tall figure, broad shoulders, added a special aura to his attire, blending simplicity and fashion with a wild charm.
His handsome face, fair and smooth, exuded a cold and sharp demeanor. His deep, dark eyes shone with a captivating hue. His thick, broad eyebrows, high nose bridge, and perfect lips exuded nobility and elegance.
If he wore a luxury watch, he would be the epitome of a successful person.
After Kim Yun-ho and Shin Dong-hae finished freshening up and came out of the restroom, they met Lee Seo-ran, who had also freshened up and returned to her usual dignified appearance.
They set off.
The three of them got into the old van and headed out to investigate.
Shin Dong-hae wanted to drive Lee Seo-ran's Maserati Ghibli, but it only had two seats and would be too conspicuous during the investigation.
The three of them had a simple breakfast at KFC and then drove to Seoul University to investigate the authenticity of Lee Min-joon's graduation thesis grades.
It was Saturday, usually a day off for the university, but due to the busy graduation period, Professor Choi Jung-deok was working at the school today.
In the same room as yesterday, Kim Yun-ho bowed 90 degrees: "I'm sorry, Professor. I was actually commissioned to secretly investigate the case of Lee Min-joon's assault. I lied to you yesterday, and I apologize."
After Lee Min-joon was attacked, he was discovered by a school worker, who then notified the campus security. After verifying Lee Min-joon's identity, they informed his teacher, Young Sang-myeong, and the responsible professor, Choi Jung-deok.
Due to the intervention of the school and Lee Min-joon's family, only a few people at Seoul University knew about Lee Min-joon's identity and the assault. Lee Seo-ran had been the one to communicate with the school.
Therefore, when Choi Jung-deok saw Lee Seo-ran and Kim Yun-ho together today, he understood and guessed Kim Yun-ho's true purpose.
Seeing Kim Yun-ho's sincere apology, Choi Jung-deok smiled, "Get up. A lie is not a big deal. I won't hold it against you. Your lecture yesterday was excellent, and I consider it as an apology. You have a deep understanding of the bar exam. How about teaching here and guiding the younger generation?"
Hearing Professor Choi's offer, Lee Seo-ran was very surprised. She knew about Kim Yun-ho's lecture yesterday but didn't expect Professor Choi to hold him in such high regard and invite him to teach at Seoul University's law department.
Although it wouldn't bring any practical benefits to Kim Yun-ho, it was a great honor. Having the experience of teaching at Seoul University would make people look at him differently and add a significant highlight to his resume.
Lee Seo-ran kicked Kim Yun-ho's leg, hinting that he shouldn't be foolish and should accept the offer.
However, Kim Yun-ho had his own reasons. He scratched his head and smiled bitterly, "Thank you for your praise, but I have my own reasons: I'm about to become a prosecutor and want to work hard and perform well, so I might not have much time."
Choi Jung-deok nodded in satisfaction, appreciating Kim Yun-ho's responsible attitude. If Kim Yun-ho had readily accepted, he would have looked down on him:
"Hehe, I understand. However, teaching here won't interfere with your work. You can come on weekends."
"Ah? Don't students have weekends off?" Kim Yun-ho was surprised and asked curiously.
Lee Seo-ran gave him a sidelong glance and explained, "Seoul University is different from other universities. Although there are no classes on weekends, students stay on campus voluntarily, and many lectures by professionals are scheduled for weekends."
It was no wonder Kim Yun-ho was ignorant. He had never attended school in this life and didn't understand the academic atmosphere of higher education, making some assumptions.
"Oh, then there's no problem." At this point, Kim Yun-ho couldn't refuse and reluctantly agreed.
Seeing Kim Yun-ho nod, Choi Jung-deok laughed heartily, delighted. Although Kim Yun-ho might be less experienced and less culturally rich compared to Seoul University's teachers, his exam techniques were highly valued by Choi Jung-deok, all for the sake of the bar exam pass rate.
The atmosphere became very pleasant, and Kim Yun-ho gradually steered the conversation towards the case.
