Chapter 10: The Veteran Reduced to Rags - 9

4 min read889 words

Even the sandbox game GalaxyBound has its own story.

A novice adventurer, newly appointed as a captain, visits various places, experiences events, and gradually becomes a veteran captain...

That's the backbone of GalaxyBound's narrative.

Of course, as a sandbox game, you can ignore the story and just focus on farming, quests, and building.

But how many people can ignore the big, shiny exclamation mark floating right there!

Especially one as large and glossy as the Eiffel Tower, right in the middle of the space market that you frequently visit!

In my case, I didn't even need the exclamation mark to beg, "Please click me~~" Haha, click!

That's how I dove into the main scenario and experienced all sorts of fun and tiring events.

The main scenario was a collection of various vanilla content in GalaxyBound, from uncovering and resolving minor conspiracies to mining, item crafting and procurement, construction, hunting, and more.

The most voluminous episode in the scenario was the Baradak War.

The Baradak War began with the sudden unification of the cannibalistic Eparva, who had been fragmented forces, and their simultaneous attacks on multiple star systems.

In the game, the reason for participating in the war was "Of course, we must fight for justice!" but in reality, there were practical reasons.

"Because I hadn't paid off the ship loan..."

The ship was borrowed from the state, so there was an obligation to participate in the war.

The next step, whether in the game or here, was that my ship experienced an unexpected malfunction, and I had to board another ship to continue the war.

For a 2D sandbox dot game, the scale of the Baradak War was not small.

It involved moving, talking, and infiltrating spaceships or ships to engage in battles, with the possibility of dying and respawning at any moment. The war lasted about four hours of playtime.

If it were someone else, they might have complained, "Is there no other content to add?" but I was a bit different.

Each infiltration brought different enemy spaceships and compositions, diverse dialogues from allies and enemies, and a gradually fattening wallet and inventory from looting.

Moreover, the production values were good, with several positive reviews praising the production despite the long playtime!

The movements weren't as varied as in other games, but slicing enemies with equipment that dealt extra damage to aliens was an incredibly fun experience.

However, the memories here were far from fun.

It was a real war, where I struggled to reach my goal amidst the debris and bodies scattered everywhere, and the screams and blood I heard over the communication lines were indistinguishable as to whether they were from allies or enemies.

At that time, I firmly imprinted the black armor, Black Power Armor, into the Eparva's minds.

It would be foolish to forget the absurd feat of infiltrating a battleship and slaughtering the crew inside alone, especially since I had participated in many battles.

"Of course, most of the achievements were forgotten."

Such remarkable achievements were buried.

The captain said no knighthood was awarded, and the ceremony for rewards and medals was held secretly due to the circumstances.

As I said, the me before the possession was a vague person, so I just shrugged it off, but my crew was furious.

But why, really? I know some major power was involved, but I want to know the details.

"Captain Taylor, why are you suddenly taking out the armor?"

I turned my head, wearing a helmet that seemed to have an angry expression, without answering. The engineer Evol stepped forward as planned.

Next, I called the two pilots.

"James, come forward."

"Me, me?"

If you infiltrated in a primitive way, I'll expose your true identity in a primitive way.

The face of the Eparva disguised as a pilot, who answered my call, turned pale and stiff like a corpse.

Who would think this was a rough Eparva who fears no death?

"Your friend too."

The two Eparva disguised as humans stood in front of me like condemned prisoners.

When I extended my hand to Evol, he handed me a bottle of brown liquid with a solemn expression.

When I opened the cap, the distinctive aroma tickled my nose through the helmet.

It was coffee.

Thud. Thud.

As I approached with the coffee, the two Eparva covered their noses and backed away.

"What, what are you doing?"

"Captain, do something about this!"

But the captain wasn't on their side. Retreating from coffee?

"Surely, you can't be...!"

The captain's brows were furrowed so tightly that not even a needle could pass through, and his teeth were clenched.

For his age, he has good teeth. Does he go to a good dentist?

Behind the retreating duo, a few people, including Evol, approached and grabbed their arms. They were crew members Evol had recruited.

As Angela said, it was a good idea to talk to Evol.

"Let go of me!"

"Damn, let go!"

The Eparva struggled, but the outcome was already decided.

With the armor, I was taller, so pouring coffee over their heads wasn't difficult.

I sprinkled the coffee like a baptism, helping them realize their true identity.

The fragrant coffee aroma filled the air, but the sense of smell was overwhelmed by the horrific screams.

"Ahhhhhh!"

"Krrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
