Chapter 15
3 min read835 words
With the newly acquired skill, "O Soul Seeking Salvation, the Wind Comes with Light," and the accompanying title, "Savior of Souls," when I conveyed what was shown in my status, Mr. Godo froze just like I did a moment ago.
It's no wonder. Although it has become a regular occurrence over the past few days, it's still a continuous series of things I've never heard of.
Thinking calmly, the effects of "Savior of Souls" are not entirely incomprehensible. The effect of increasing the learning speed of some skill is quite common.
However, when it comes to combat skills, I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to have such an unrelated name or explanation.
Still, I can't say I'm entirely convinced.
The problem is with the skill, "O Soul Seeking Salvation, the Wind Comes with Light."
This one is just all wrong. I can't understand anything about it.
"What does 'Special Effect Against Monsters and Evil Thoughts' mean...?"
"– It might be just as it reads,"
"Oh, Mr. Godo is back."
"I apologize, it was just too shocking."
I understand... This is way out of the ordinary.
With Mr. Godo somehow rebooted, we started walking to calm down. We decided to leave the dungeon and talk at a café.
The way back was quiet and without idle chatter because we were in a hurry.
But next to me, Mr. Godo's eyes were shining brightly as he held my hand. If I had to describe it, it's like the eyes of a child watching a superhero show, or more frankly, the eyes of a fanatic who has found their god.
His face was flushed, he kept glancing at me, his hands were sweaty, and the heat of his excitement was giving off a good smell. I needed to get out into the fresh air before I started feeling strange too.
So, we left the dungeon. The hole disappeared instantly.
It's a truly mysterious phenomenon. What exactly is a dungeon? It's incredibly unnatural for a natural phenomenon.
Maybe the System wants me to do something about it. I don't like the sound of that... Troublesome things.
I already feel like I'm at the center of all the trouble, and I really don't want any more. While thinking this, I let go of Mr. Godo's hand.
"Ah..."
"Um, I think there's a café in the shopping district. Let's go there. I also want to consult you about the unclear effects of the new skill."
"Y-Yes, of course, but Kōhei, should we hold hands?"
"Why...?"
Walking hand in hand with an older woman in a recruit suit in public is just not possible. Our homes and schools are close, and if someone saw us, it would be a real problem.
Somehow, I managed to convince him to head to the café. After completing the dungeon, the administrative procedures are handled by the guild once we report, so I can leave the scene without any lingering issues.
It was around 3 PM, and we had quickly entered and cleared the dungeon.
"Hey, Yamagata-kun?"
"Hmm?"
Suddenly, I was called out. I saw a group of my female classmates in their uniforms.
Was it a half-day today, and they were having a girls' day out to bond? Girls are so close, unlike guys.
I stopped and bowed.
"Hey, are you all together? Are there guys too?"
"Nope, it's a girls' day out, a girls' day out!"
"Yamagata-kun, what are you doing? Who's that beautiful lady?"
"Could she be your girlfriend!?"
"Kyaa! No way, age difference!"
"No, no, it's not like that. We were just exploring the dungeon. This is my senior explorer."
Some of the girls, sensing something between Mr. Godo and me, started to stir. With more than ten of them, it was quite a commotion.
A few of them had seen Mr. Godo and me talking with Sekiguchi-kun earlier. Since it was only a matter of time before it got out, I decided to come clean and explain my relationship with Mr. Godo.
Mr. Godo also seemed to understand and introduced herself.
"A-Class Explorer, Godo Kōna. While Kōhei... I mean, Yamagata-kun and I are seniors and juniors, I hope you can treat me as just another person."
"Wait... Godo Kōna, the one from...?"
"I've seen her on TV! Wow, a dream come true?!"
"So, Yamagata, you're really an explorer?"
"Compared to Sekiguchi-kun, you seem a bit unreliable, don't you?"
"Hehe, that's true."
Sure enough, Mr. Godo is a celebrity, and the girls started to buzz and squeal. I was relieved that the fact that I'm an explorer was a secondary or tertiary concern. It's enough that Mr. Godo is getting all the attention.
But please, stop saying I'm unreliable behind my back. At least wait until I'm gone?
Girls are scary. That's what I thought.
