Chapter 91

"Amidst the cherry blossoms dancing in the wind, Misaki opened the old diary and read the words of promise written there."

"Host, witnessing the peak archery skills of the Flying General Li Guang, you have obtained the skill: Tiger Shooting! Martial Power Value 2!" The voice of the Tiger Talisman suddenly sounded, "The Records of the Grand Historian: The Biography of General Li once said: 'Li Guang went hunting and saw a stone in the grass, mistaking it for a tiger, he shot at it, and the arrow sank into the stone. Upon closer inspection, it was indeed a stone. He tried to shoot it again, but could never penetrate the stone again. In the regions where Li Guang resided, when there were tigers, he often shot them himself. When he was stationed in You Beiping and shot a tiger, the tiger leaped and injured Li Guang, but Li Guang eventually shot and killed it!' Li Guang is one of the most skilled archers in Chinese history. The host, having witnessed his divine archery skills firsthand, has been inspired to understand his innate skill, Tiger Shooting!"

"Tiger Shooting is the innate skill of the Flying General Li Guang. By obtaining this skill, the host will automatically master basic archery, currently at level one. In battle, there is a 10% chance of a critical hit, which is instantly fatal! The cooldown for a critical hit is twelve hours! It can be upgraded!" The Tiger Talisman interface appeared before Li You again, with the second box under the skill bar lighting up, clearly listing the "Tiger Shooting" skill.

"Ah! What a pleasant surprise! In recent days, apart from guiding the craftsmen to forge horse gear and other items, Li You had been constantly discussing military strategy with famous generals like Wei Qing and Cheng Bushi, but did not gain any skills as he did when discussing with Chen Qingzhi. I thought this time the gains would only be these! I didn't expect such an unexpected harvest today!"

"I didn't even ask Li Guang to teach me archery. Just by witnessing his miraculous feat of sinking an arrow into a stone, I automatically obtained this skill! Throughout Chinese history, the only archers who could rival the Flying General Li Guang are probably Yang Youji, who killed Dou Yuejiao with a single shot, Changsun Sheng, who shot two eagles with one arrow, and Xue RenGui, who stabilized the Tian Shan with three arrows. Now that I have obtained the 'Tiger Shooting' skill, I have great potential in archery!"

"General, you truly possess divine skills!" Li You was overjoyed and couldn't help but clap in praise, "I have long heard that General Li once sank an arrow into a stone in the north of the Mingshan Mountains. I thought it was just a legend! I never expected to witness this divine skill with my own eyes today! I can't think of anyone else who could do this!"

"Ha ha ha!" Li Guang laughed loudly, "Doctor, you flatter me! Today, I was riding this new horse gear for the first time, and I was so delighted that my spirit and energy reached their peak, allowing me to perform like this! If I were to shoot again, I would probably be unable to do it!"

"Even so, General, your skill is unparalleled! I have never heard of anyone else who can sink an arrow into a stone!" Li You sincerely praised.

"Doctor, you are mistaken!" Li Guang shook his head, "I once read in the 'Spring and Autumn Annals of Mr. Lu' that Yang Youji shot first, hitting a stone, and the arrow sank into it, truly a remarkable feat! This shows that Yang Youji could shoot stones effortlessly, far surpassing me! Besides, shooting stones is just a small trick. Archery is ultimately useful on the battlefield. If I could one day shoot and kill several Xiongnu generals on the battlefield like Yang Youji did with Dou Yuejiao, then I would dare to compare myself to the ancients!"

"Yang Youji, of the Ying clan, the Yang family, with the courtesy name Shu, and the given name Youji, was a general of the State of Chu during the Spring and Autumn period. He is a famous marksman in Chinese history. According to the 'Strategies of the Warring States: Western Zhou,' it is recorded that Yang Youji was skilled in archery, and from a hundred paces, he could shoot through a willow leaf, hitting it every time. The idioms 'hitting a willow leaf from a hundred paces' and 'hitting the target every time' both come from him. Additionally, he once shot through seven layers of armor with a single arrow. Yang Youji's archery was both accurate and deadly!"

"During the reign of King Zhuang of Chu, the Ling Yin (Prime Minister) Dou Yuejiao rebelled. Yang Youji was ordered to face Dou Yuejiao in battle. He let Dou Yuejiao shoot three arrows first, which Yang Youji caught with his left and right hands and teeth. When it was Yang Youji's turn to shoot, he hit Dou Yuejiao's throat with a single arrow! The rebellion was thus quelled, and Yang Youji earned the title 'Yang One Arrow'!"

"Before Li Guang, Yang Youji was probably the most famous marksman. In Li Guang's view, shooting and killing enemy generals on the battlefield is the most desirable, while shooting stones and tigers are just small tricks!"

"I believe that General Li will one day achieve this and not let Yang Youji have all the glory!" Li You said sincerely. According to historical records, Li Guang committed suicide in shame after getting lost during a campaign against the Xiongnu. Now, with the maps and guides familiar with the Xiongnu terrain that Li You provided, such a mistake might not happen again.

"Next year, we will advance into the Hexi region! If I have the opportunity, I will definitely shoot and kill the Chanyu of Xiutu and Kunye to vent the frustration of being intercepted by their troops!" Li Guang said, looking eagerly at Li You. He knew that Li You had gained Emperor Liu Che's trust after returning from the Western Regions and might have some influence in the selection of generals. He hoped Li You would speak well of him to fulfill his wish.

"General Li is highly skilled and beloved by the soldiers. If you lead the army against the Xiongnu, you will surely achieve a great victory!" Li You's words made Li Guang beam with joy. Taking advantage of his good mood, Li You quickly said, "I would like to learn archery from General Li. May I?"

"Doctor, you are too kind!" Li Guang quickly dismounted and prepared to hand his longbow to Li You, but halfway through, he hesitated and pulled it back, "My bow is very stiff! Doctor, why don't you try a softer bow?"

"I have long heard that General Li's bow is specially made by a master! May I have a look?" How could Li You resist such a good thing? He thickly faced it and took the bow from Li Guang's hands. It was heavy, as expected.

Holding the longbow, a mysterious feeling arose. The bow seemed to become one with Li You, and he instantly knew how to draw, aim, and shoot without any instruction.

Is this the effect of the skill 'Tiger Shooting'? Li You eagerly took an arrow from Xu Yanian's quiver, placed it on the bow, and drew it to half its length, then suddenly released it. With a twang, the arrow hit the target dozens of paces away!

This was far inferior to Li Guang's skills, but it was enough to earn praise. Li Guang gaped at Li You, "Whose master did Doctor learn archery from? Your posture and spirit are perfect. I was not at this level at your age. All that's left is more practice!"

Li Guang was in his forties, and Zhang Qian was in his twenties. According to historical records, Li Guang's archery skills were not fully developed in his twenties, and his posture and demeanor had many flaws.

"I learned from you!" Li You smiled but remained silent, thinking of an excuse to use. Suddenly, he heard the sound of hooves in the distance, and someone shouted, "The Emperor has arrived! Everyone, prepare to greet him!"
