Liyang, without bothering to acknowledge the alien brain, put down the notebook in his hand, took out the neatly arranged English textbook in front of his desk, and started reading through it at a rapid pace.
He found that he could remember the content of a page with just one glance, and couldn't help but feel elated!
Liyang's unusual actions naturally caught Wang Yuxin's attention.
Seeing that Liyang wasn't studying properly, her beautiful eyes turned cold, and she whispered, "Liyang, how can you read like that? You shouldn't look at the English textbook until you've memorized the words. You've fallen behind a lot, so you need to take it step by step."
Liyang turned to Wang Yuxin with a smile, "Are you talking about those words? I've already memorized them!"
Wang Yuxin angrily retorted, "Don't talk nonsense here! Quickly memorize the words! It hasn't even been two minutes, and if you could memorize two hundred words, it would be a miracle."
Liyang didn't argue, and continued flipping through the high school English textbook page by page, like a child randomly flipping through a book. Wang Yuxin threatened him a few times, but he remained stubborn.
He had previously scored a shameful 24 points on an English test, which was a disgrace to their city's key high school. Therefore, the homeroom teacher asked Wang Yuxin to help him focus on his English studies.
Actually, Liyang used to be a decent student, but since his father, Li Tianjun, developed severe bedsores and his condition worsened a year ago, he had to go back to take care of his father and also perform street dance in a dance troupe to earn money. This led to his studies being neglected, and his grades plummeted.
Wang Fang could only earn 1,200 yuan per month. After paying 600 yuan for rent, she had only 600 yuan left, which was not enough to cover Liyang's tuition, living expenses, and Li Tianjun's medical expenses.
Poor children grow up fast. Liyang tried his best to earn money during his free time to support the family and ease Wang Fang's burden. After learning to dance, he could earn 50 to 100 yuan per performance, which improved their situation somewhat. However, after the incident last night, Wang Fang lost her job, and their family's financial situation became even more dire.
When Wang Yuxin kicked him for the third time with her eyes wide open, Liyang had finished flipping through the English textbook. Ignoring Wang Yuxin's surprised gaze, he closed his eyes and thought for a moment, recalling the entire content of the textbook. He thought to himself that he couldn't let his mother struggle and that he had to get 600 yuan for the rent today, even if it meant doing the same job as Xiao Jun, cleaning the steel plant's flue!
"Class monitor, I want to ask for a leave. I've finished reading the English textbook and have fully mastered it. I have something very important to do today!" Liyang slowly opened his eyes and said softly to Wang Yuxin.
He was exaggerating when he said he had fully mastered it. At least, he still needed to improve his oral and listening skills, but he was confident about answering the test questions.
"Ring, ring, ring!"
Just as Wang Yuxin was about to speak, the class bell rang. Her eyes turned cold, and she waved her small fist at Liyang, threatening, "Class has started, the teacher will be here soon. This class is English, and Mr. Li said there will be a small test today. Since you claim you've memorized the words, take the test first. If you can score 60 points, I'll ask the teacher to give you a day off. Otherwise, don't even think about it!"
Liyang quickly nodded at her and picked up the English textbooks for the first and second grades, which he had studied relatively well, and flipped through them even faster.
When he finished reading these two books as quickly as possible, their English teacher and homeroom teacher, Li Ling, entered the classroom with a stack of test papers.
"Students, put away your English textbooks. We have a test today. There are only two months left until the college entrance exam. Our studies are like a 100-meter sprint, and we are now in the final sprint. Everyone must work hard!" Li Ling said loudly.
Li Ling was a well-dressed middle-aged woman, around 50 years old, of medium build, with a kind and friendly face. She wore a pair of brown plastic-framed glasses. She was a senior teacher in Southeast City with over 20 years of experience in English teaching, and was a key teacher at their high school.
The students in the classroom smiled and organized their textbooks, preparing for the test. Li Ling came to Liyang's side with a smile, leaned down, and whispered, "Liyang, with a student like Yuxin helping you, how have you been doing lately?"
Liyang stood up, gave Li Ling a standard military salute, and grinned, "Report, Commander, I have absolutely exceeded the task!"
"Ha ha, you troublemaker, always so carefree. If you dare to score 24 points again this time, I'll stick the test paper on your face and make you run ten laps around the school playground!"
"Teacher Li, please rest assured, I will score at least 25 points this time!" Liyang patted his chest and shouted.
"Ha ha ha ha!" The students in the class burst into laughter.
Wang Yuxin's face turned red, and she lowered her head, smiling. After laughing, Li Ling's face turned serious, and she patted Liyang's shoulder, "You are a hardworking child. I've been to your home. Your mother has to take care of your bedridden father and work to support your studies..."
Liyang's smile faded, and cold sweat trickled down his forehead. He quickly interrupted Li Ling, "Teacher Li, the students are waiting. Let's start the test quickly."
Li Ling knew that Liyang, despite his carefree appearance, had a strong sense of self-respect and didn't want her to talk about these things. She sighed and returned to the podium, instructing the front row students to pass the test papers to the back.
Soon, Liyang received his test paper. He glanced at it and noticed that the words Wang Yuxin had made him memorize were all used. He looked at her with gratitude.
"Answer honestly. I won't let you cheat!" Wang Yuxin quickly covered her test paper, nervous.
Liyang smiled and said sarcastically, "You haven't even started answering yet. How can I cheat?"
He shook his head and started answering the questions quickly with a ballpoint pen. As soon as he saw the questions, the correct answers appeared in his mind, and he wrote them down swiftly without hesitation, much to Wang Yuxin's surprise.
Li Ling, standing at the podium, saw Liyang answering the questions seriously and nodded in approval, thinking that Wang Yuxin's help had indeed been significant.
Time passed quickly, and in just five minutes, Wang Yuxin had just finished the fill-in-the-blank questions and was about to start the Chinese-to-English translation questions when she turned her head and saw Liyang standing up, grabbing his test paper, and walking to the podium where Li Ling was.
"Liyang, is there a question you can't see clearly?" Li Ling asked gently.
Liyang raised his chin and said, "I want to submit my test paper and ask for a leave."
Li Ling's face turned cold, and she scolded Liyang, "What nonsense! Go back and finish your test. With your poor grades, how can you even think about asking for a leave?"
The students in the class whistled, as if mocking Liyang for being shameless. Wang Yuxin, who was supervising Liyang's studies, lowered her head in embarrassment.
"Teacher Li, I really have finished the test. Can you check if I can score 25 points?" Liyang insisted, trying to hand the test paper to Li Ling.
Li Ling took the test paper and, seeing it filled with answers, frowned. She quickly walked down from the podium to Wang Yuxin and scolded, "Yuxin, did you accidentally let Liyang cheat?"
Wang Yuxin stood up, pulled the test paper, and said softly, "Impossible, I've just finished the fill-in-the-blank questions!"
Li Ling looked at Liyang, who was smiling confidently, and walked back to the podium, checking the answers as she went. She was increasingly shocked because she found that Liyang's answers were all correct!
She sat down at the podium, took out the correct answers, and started comparing them. In the end, she had to admit that Liyang had answered every question correctly!
Seeing Liyang's smug expression, Li Ling felt something was amiss but couldn't figure out what. The test paper had been printed by the school administration the night before, so there was no way it could have been leaked. The neat handwriting and clean test paper made it impossible to deduct points for presentation!
Li Ling read the test paper twice and finally gave it a big 100!
"Hmph, Liyang, since you answered so quickly, I have another test paper that I originally planned to give you next week. You can take it now," Li Ling said, looking at Liyang with a hint of displeasure.
Liyang's face turned bitter, "Teacher Li, I really have something urgent to do and need to ask for a leave!"
Li Ling smiled coldly, "Ha ha, if you can score 100 points on this test, I'll give you a three-day leave."
100 points!
All the students in the class perked up their ears!
The homeroom teacher had just said that if Liyang could score 100 points, then he must have scored 100 points on the previous test!
Not only was Wang Yuxin stunned, but the entire class was in shock!
Their homeroom teacher, Li Ling, despite her kind appearance, was very strict with her students. The difficulty of her test questions often exceeded that of the college entrance exam, and even a top student like Wang Yuxin could only score in the 90s, never achieving a perfect 100. Yet, the usually careless and uninterested Liyang had scored 100 points!
"No problem!" Liyang snatched the other test paper from Li Ling and returned to his seat, bending over to write quickly.
Li Ling couldn't bear to supervise the other students and quickly walked down from the podium to stand next to Liyang, watching him answer the questions with keen eyes. She wanted to see if Liyang could still cheat under her watch.
Liyang, sensing Li Ling's presence, looked up and smiled at her, then started writing furiously.
Five minutes passed quickly. Liyang stretched, stood up, and handed the test paper to Li Ling, who was already dumbfounded, and said, "Teacher Li, please grade the test quickly. I need to go out to take care of something."
This time, Li Ling saw clearly that Liyang had not cheated. She knew that this test paper was another perfect 100!
To be thorough, she returned to the podium, took out the correct answers, and compared them one by one. Finally, she suppressed her excitement and wrote a beautiful 100 in red ink on the test paper!
