Chapter 2

Li Shiming walked slowly along the garden path, not without considering speeding up, but he was unsure if Head Wang of the security company was watching him from behind. He needed to appear calm to reassure Head Wang.

After leaving the garden area and seeing his own courtyard, most of his worries were alleviated.

Now, he faced two choices: one was to report the matter to his father. His father, Li Wenyuan, was the governor of Nanling Prefecture, a fourth-rank official but the most powerful in the region.

With the power in his father's hands, he could easily summon experts to eliminate Head Wang.

The other choice was to follow Head Wang's instructions and prepare the medicine according to the prescription.

"I'll just play along for now. If there's no way to resolve the trouble, I'll ask my father to intervene!" he thought to himself.

After all, as long as Head Wang needed him to do something, he wouldn't harm him immediately. With the Three-Day Soul-Cutting Pill, Head Wang wouldn't be too wary of him.

Entering the courtyard with these thoughts, he saw his maid, Siqin, who quickly hid something behind her back and then smiled as she approached to greet him.

Siqin was Li Shiming's personal maid. Besides her, there were five other maids and two nannies specifically assigned to serve him.

However, he didn't like having too many people in the courtyard. Except for Siqin, the other servants stayed in the servants' quarters and wouldn't come unless called.

"What do you have in your hand?" Li Shiming asked curiously, noticing Siqin's shy expression.

"These are little trinkets given by Aunt Wang. I thought they were pretty, so I took a few!" Siqin showed him the red beans in her hand.

Li Shiming couldn't help but shake his head. No wonder Siqin was shy; these were love beans, indicating that she was growing up and had a young girl's thoughts.

Just as he was about to ask Siqin to do something, he re-examined the love beans.

These love beans had black tips, and he thought of "Mother Hen Beans," a type of love bean that was highly toxic. Ingesting just two or three could be fatal.

Of course, few people knew about the toxicity of Mother Hen Beans. The reason was that love beans grew in the far south, and most people didn't even know the difference between Mother Hen Beans and regular love beans.

"Siqin, go to Aunt Wang and ask how many of these love beans with black tips she has. If any have been given out, retrieve them all. Tell her I want them, and give me the ones you have!" Li Shiming instructed sternly.

"Yes, Young Master!" Siqin pouted in dissatisfaction but dared not disobey, handing over the love beans in her hand.

"By the way, ask Mo Yan to come over!" Li Shiming added as Siqin was about to leave.

Li Shiming went to his study and first transcribed the prescription given by Head Wang, only copying the quantities of the herbs.

With the memories of his original body, his calligraphy was quite good.

This world was similar yet different from his previous life. The country he was in was called Xia, and they used Chinese characters. They even had the Four Books and Five Classics, suggesting a great similarity to his previous life.

The reason Li Shiming knew the Four Books and Five Classics were the same was that he had read them in both lives.

In his previous life, while in university, he enjoyed reading ancient texts. Although he didn't study the Four Books and Five Classics in depth, he was familiar with them.

In this life, he had studied the Four Books and Five Classics from a young age and was already a scholar.

His status as a scholar was not due to his father's influence but earned through his own knowledge and passing the exams.

Becoming a scholar at fifteen was not easy for ordinary people, but for him, with his family's educational background, it was relatively easy.

Although he didn't use his father's influence, his learning conditions and resources were unimaginable for ordinary people.

As long as one wasn't stupid or unwilling to work hard, with such conditions, passing the college examination to become a scholar was only a matter of time.

The geography of this world was also different from his previous life. For example, there was no Nanling Prefecture in the historical records of his previous life.

Nanling Prefecture was in the south of the Xia Kingdom, connected to the central capital and the northern Guanhai Prefecture by the Immortal-Cleaving Canal. Together with the four prefectures in the east and west, they formed the seven most important prefectures of the Xia Kingdom.

While Li Shiming was thinking, he heard Siqin and the servant Mo Yan outside the door.

Mo Yan carried a wooden box and walked in, carefully placing it on the ground in front of him.

"Master, everything you asked for has been made according to the blueprint. Please check if there's anything that needs to be changed, and I'll take care of it right away!" Mo Yan reported with a look of accomplishment.

Li Shiming was excited but suppressed his emotions as he opened the wooden box.

Inside the box were the parts of the generator, all made according to the blueprint.

Three days ago, after just arriving in this world, he designed the blueprint to charge the uninterruptible power supply using his knowledge of electricity. He had given the blueprint to Mo Yan to handle, and now Mo Yan had brought it over.

Before seeing it, he had mentally prepared himself. As long as the parts were not too different, he could make adjustments himself.

But when he saw the actual parts, he was truly surprised.

Ignoring the wooden parts, the iron gears he needed looked as if they were not made in ancient times. Their precision made him wonder if they were machine-processed.

The most challenging parts were the magnet and the copper wire.

He picked up the magnet and found it perfectly shaped.

"Master, the magnet was made by the Si Nan shop. They used their best magnet!" Mo Yan explained, seeing the magnet.

Si Nan was a compass, and the needle required the magnet to be processed into a special shape. Using the same technique to shape the magnet for Li Shiming's needs was not too difficult.

Li Shiming smiled, nodded, and then picked up the copper wire.

To be honest, he was most worried about the copper wire, as it required the most skill.

The copper wire in his hand was thin and flexible, with a layer of lacquer covering it. Even in his previous life, it would have been considered excellent.

"The copper wire was custom-made by the Wu family's jewelry shop. When they heard it was for you, they found the best old craftsman to make it overnight!" Mo Yan didn't miss the opportunity to take credit.

"You did a good job. Siqin, give Mo Yan two taels of silver!" Li Shiming, understanding Mo Yan's intentions and satisfied with his work, smiled and instructed Siqin.

Siqin obediently took the silver and gave it to Mo Yan, who was already grinning from ear to ear.

"Mo Yan, don't talk too much outside. Don't mention the Young Master's affairs!" Siqin whispered.

Although she didn't know what Li Shiming needed these things for, getting involved in things unrelated to his studies before the autumn examination could cause trouble if the old master found out.

"Mo Yan, here is a prescription. Buy the medicine according to it and bring the case file from Tianxiang Tower quickly!" Li Shiming's gaze moved from the wooden box, remembering the important task he had for Mo Yan, and instructed him sternly.

With his new task and the silver, Mo Yan left happily.
