### Chapter 10: The Zombie's Escape

At this moment, the room outside suddenly became brightly lit, as Uncle Kow led the police force in. The group, armed with torches, burst in, with Ah Wei leading the charge. Upon seeing the zombies screaming, Ah Wei turned pale and let out a startled cry, then retreated at an even faster pace.

The zombie, now heavily injured, made a beeline for the door, ignoring the police with their guns. Uncle Kow, determined not to let it escape, pulled out a string of ink and flicked it at the zombie. "Snap!" A spark appeared on the zombie, and the evil-repelling power of the chicken blood ink sent it flying several meters away.

Suddenly, with no other options, the zombie leaped towards the upstairs room. Bai Yu's heart sank, realizing it was the direction where Wentai and Ren Tingting had gone. Sure enough, Wentai's cries for help echoed, "Master, Uncle, save me!"

Bai Yu rushed over, shouting, "Stop breathing! Zombies can only sense the outside world through their sense of smell." As he spoke, Wentai's cries grew more desperate, "I can't stop! The zombie has me!"

Bai Yu reached the source of the sound, a guest room, and kicked the door open. Inside, the zombie's claws were tightly gripping Wentai's arms, its head about to lunge at his neck. Ren Tingting was hitting the zombie with a table leg, but her efforts were futile, and the zombie showed no reaction.

It seemed Wentai was destined to be injured by the zombie. However, there was no time to waste. If he wasn't saved quickly, he might not just be injured but turned into a dried corpse. Bai Yu kicked off with all his strength, reaching the zombie's back in an instant. He swung his peach wood sword upward, and "snap!" a spark appeared on the zombie's back. In pain, the zombie threw Wentai at Bai Yu. "Bang!" The two tumbled to the ground, and this not only stopped Bai Yu but also blocked Uncle Kow and the others from entering.

The zombie, realizing it had to escape, didn't look for a way out but instead jumped through the window, shattering it and falling down. It was clear they couldn't catch up. Bai Yu felt a bit frustrated. Was the plot really unchangeable? However, he quickly put these thoughts aside, helped the injured Wentai up, and headed downstairs.

Ah Wei, bare-chested with the character "traitor" on his chest, was the first to greet them. He asked with concern, "How is it? Did Uncle Kow and Bai Daoshi kill the zombie?" Seeing Bai Yu and the others shake their heads, he felt a bit disappointed but then became anxious, looking around, "Where is it now?"

Bai Yu smiled lightly, "Don't worry, it was heavily injured and fled."

Ah Wei let out a sigh of relief but then noticed Wentai's weak state and asked, "What's wrong with Wentai?" Uncle Kow replied, "He was grabbed by the zombie." Qiu Sheng then asked, "Will Wentai turn into a zombie?"

Uncle Kow pondered for a moment, "It's possible." Ah Wei, hearing this, immediately became tense again, drew his gun, and pointed it at Wentai, "I'll kill him now to prevent him from harming others later."

Bai Yu quickly shielded Wentai, stopping him, "Don't act rashly. It's just a possibility. If we catch it early, he can still be saved."

Ah Wei paused, asking, "Really? How?"

Bai Yu said, "Use glutinous rice. It can not only cure those poisoned by zombies but also prevent them." Bai Yu felt his tone was like a sales pitch, as if he were advertising. "Glutinous rice?" The police officers exchanged glances, all eager to act. Ah Wei was no exception. Without waiting for orders, they scattered to prepare the glutinous rice.

Seeing the police's reaction, the group couldn't help but laugh. Uncle Kow then said to Ren Tingting, "Tingting, move to my mortuary tonight."

Wentai, who had been weak and listless, suddenly perked up, exclaiming, "Great!" Bai Yu and Uncle Kow shook their heads, thinking the boy was beyond help.

They then returned to the mortuary. Qiu Sheng was sent to catch some snakes to make snake medicine, while Ren Tingting took care of Wentai. Bai Yu, with nothing to do, started drinking alone. Wentai, feeling content, looked at Ren Tingting with deep affection, "Don't worry, I'll be fine soon."

Ren Tingting glanced at him and smiled, "I'm not worried at all."

Wentai was puzzled, "Aren't you afraid I'll turn into a zombie?" Ren Tingting opened her mouth to speak, but Uncle Kow's cold voice came from behind her, "Afraid? Of course she is." Uncle Kow, holding the snake medicine, pinched Wentai's wound and asked, "Does it hurt?"

Wentai, not understanding Uncle Kow's intent, answered honestly, "No."

Uncle Kow frowned, "How can it not hurt when the flesh is so hard?"

Wentai thought Uncle Kow was joking, "Master, you're scaring me."

"Scaring you?" Uncle Kow used a blade to remove a piece of dead skin from Wentai's wound, "See, you don't feel anything."

Wentai was startled, looking at Uncle Kow with concern, "Why is that?"

Uncle Kow, applying the snake medicine to Wentai's wound, shook his head, "In two days, the zombie poison will spread throughout your body. By then, even if you're cut to pieces, you won't feel a thing." Wentai became anxious, "What should I do?"

Uncle Kow said firmly, "Move." But Wentai didn't understand, "What?"

"Move your limbs, your whole body. Don't stop moving."

"What if I stop?"

"If you stop, your blood will stop circulating and clot."

"What if it clots?"

"It will harden."

"What if it hardens?"

"Hardening means stiffness, and stiffness means hardness."

"What if I become stiff?" Wentai was almost in tears.

"Stiffness means you'll turn into a zombie. I won't know what to do then." Uncle Kow sighed heavily, expressing his worry.

Bai Yu then came to Wentai's side, "Actually, you don't need to worry too much. In a while, have Qiu Sheng buy more glutinous rice. Grind it into a water, and Wentai, soak in it. The poison will be cleared."

Uncle Kow agreed, "Yes, soaking in glutinous rice water is effective, but you need to hold on until then."

Wentai asked habitually, "What should I do now?"

"Smack!" Uncle Kow, finding a stick, hit Wentai's leg, "What are you sitting there for? Start moving."

Wentai quickly jumped up, performing a creative dance. Uncle Kow then instructed Qiu Sheng, "Sprinkle the glutinous rice on the bed." He turned to Ren Tingting, "Cook some glutinous rice porridge for Wentai, and make sure no smoke gets in, or it won't work." Both of them nodded and went inside.

A moment later, Qiu Sheng came out, "Master, we only have this much glutinous rice." There was only a little, enough for one thing.

Uncle Kow thought for a moment and said to Ren Tingting, "Tingting, wait to cook the porridge until we buy more. Sprinkle all of it on the bed." He then told Wentai, "Take off your shoes and jump on the bed."

Wentai, unable to resist talking, asked, "Master, I've heard of waking someone up, but what's jumping on the bed?" Bai Yu couldn't help but laugh, patting Wentai's shoulder, "Talk less and get up. If the poison reaches your feet, it will be hard to save you."

Wentai's face turned serious, and he quickly threw off his shoes and started jumping on the bed.

Uncle Kow then said to Qiu Sheng, "Go buy more glutinous rice." Qiu Sheng agreed and asked curiously, "Can I buy sticky rice?" Uncle Kow, indifferent, shrugged, "Sure, if you want him to die, buy sticky rice."

Qiu Sheng glanced at the dancing Wentai and laughed, "Sure." Wentai, alarmed, jumped onto Qiu Sheng, "You bastard." They started wrestling.

"Smack!" Uncle Kow's stick made Wentai stop.

After Qiu Sheng left to buy rice, Uncle Kow and Bai Yu found seats in the main room. Uncle Kow said, "The zombie won't come out for a few days since it's heavily injured. But when it does, we need a good plan to deal with it."

Bai Yu nodded, thinking for a moment, "In the Mount Mao secret techniques you gave me, there's a description of zombies. It says that once a zombie fully develops, its senses and intelligence will gradually return. This means that next time, even if we don't breathe, it can still see us. We'll be facing a monster that can see, hear, and think like a human. We need to be well-prepared. I'll go buy some live chickens to keep on hand."

Uncle Kow agreed, "That's a good idea."

Bai Yu didn't waste any time, "I'll go now." As he left the mortuary, a strange smile appeared on his face. He opened his palm to reveal a strand of hair lying quietly. He planned to deal with the female ghost that night, and this hair belonged to Qiu Sheng.

He intended to use the hair to perform the "puppet technique" to control Qiu Sheng's movements, preventing him from being bewitched by the female ghost and causing trouble, as in the original story. The puppet technique is a method of controlling a person to manipulate them. By taking a strand of hair or blood from the target and performing the puppet technique, their movements are linked to a straw figure. When Bai Yu pressed a stone on the figure, the effect was predictable.
