Christine didn't expect that her words would cause Zhen Fan such a strong reaction, and her face turned a bit red.
"I was too abrupt, I'm sorry, Zhen. I've been tortured by those damned mediums these days!" Christine even swore, which was enough to show how much those mediums deserved to be cursed.
"You actually hired mediums?"
This time it was Zhen Fan's turn to be surprised with his mouth wide open.
"Uh, it's nothing..." Christine felt a bit embarrassed, after all, it wasn't a good thing.
"It's just insomnia or nightmares, nothing serious!"
Zhen Fan said it lightly, even shrugging his shoulders casually.
"Alright, it's really nothing!" Christine gritted her teeth, the nightmare that tormented her made her feel like she was trapped in hell, but in this guy's mouth, it was nothing.
"Have you seen a doctor?"
Zhen Fan ignored Christine's grinding teeth.
"I have, of course the best doctor, Professor Charles Fortles, a famous neurologist in the United States, he has helped many people!"
Christine even had a proud look on her face, showing her genuine side in front of Zhen Fan.
"Um, I'm actually a doctor too!"
Zhen Fan hesitated for a moment, then looked at Christine seriously.
"You're a doctor?"
This time it was Christine's turn to be surprised. She stared at him with wide eyes, as if she were looking at a monster, her surprised expression was unmasked, which made Zhen Fan feel a bit embarrassed.
"It seems there are many surprises today. First, I suddenly found out I met a big liar, and then I found out I met a great doctor!"
Her words clearly had a teasing tone.
"Um—" Zhen Fan also felt a bit embarrassed, "To be precise, I'm a soon-to-be doctor. I took the medical licensing exam here, for traditional Chinese medicine. I should get my license soon, probably in about a month!"
"Almost a doctor? You really can talk! That's quite a surprise."
Christine couldn't help but laugh. She hadn't laughed so happily in days, like a little girl who had found a hidden candy.
"What's wrong? Do I not look like a doctor, or should doctors have a stern face?"
Zhen Fan defended himself.
"No, I thought you were a medium!" Christine joked, feeling very relaxed.
"Medium? Why would you think that..." Zhen Fan was surprised, then pointed at Christine with his hand, "No wonder you keep mentioning mediums. It seems that medium really deceived you!"
"Shh!" Christine didn't think it was a serious matter, and exaggeratedly looked around, pretending to be nervous, "I'll only tell you. The other day, a medium told me I was being haunted by an evil spirit, so I've been having nightmares every day!"
She laughed loudly, as if she found it very amusing.
Zhen Fan didn't say anything, just smiled at her.
Christine's laughter gradually faded, and even the faintest sound disappeared, her face showing a gloomy expression.
"Let's sit over there!"
Zhen Fan suggested, pointing to the bench by the river where they often sat and chatted.
"Am I... really that foolish?"
Christine mustered the courage to look at Zhen Fan.
"If I were in your situation, trapped by nightmares for many days, I would be even more foolish. I might even invite a priest with a cross and a Bible to exorcise me!"
Zhen Fan's joke made Christine's lips curl up into a smile.
"But... I really can't find a way. Damn medium!" Christine's resentment was strong, and she swore again, "It's not because he cheated me out of money, but because my damned nightmares will continue."
Christine's resentment stirred something in Zhen Fan's heart!
"If... I can help you..."
"I hope you can help me!" Christine turned her face to look at Zhen Fan, "You're a good person, and it's comfortable to chat with you. I haven't laughed so heartily in a long time. Maybe that's the best help!"
Zhen Fan was taken aback. He originally wanted to say that he might be able to help her, to treat her. Clearly, in Christine's mind, if even Professor Charles couldn't cure her, no one else could!
"Actually... I'm a doctor too!"
Zhen Fan awkwardly brought up the topic again.
"Um, I know, didn't you just say that?"
Christine smiled slightly, looking Zhen Fan up and down.
"I also know you're a soon-to-be doctor!"
Zhen Fan nodded.
Christine was about to say something to lighten the mood, but before she could speak, she was stunned and looked at Zhen Fan in surprise. This time she was really surprised.
"You mean, you want to cure me?"
God, you finally thought of it. I've been guiding you so gently. Zhen Fan took a deep breath and nodded solemnly.
"If American doctors can't cure you, why not try a Chinese doctor? I mean, a traditional Chinese doctor, with a completely different treatment method."
Zhen Fan spoke seriously, clearly after much thought.
"You're right! Why not try traditional Chinese medicine?"
Christine nodded, then looked at Zhen Fan with concern.
"But... your medical license..."
Without a medical license, treating people would be illegal.
"If you don't say anything, who else will know? Why can't this be our secret?" Zhen Fan smiled, "Look, I don't care, why should you?"
"Can we do it today?"
"Of course, but you look like this..."
Zhen Fan's meaning was clear: are you going to my place or yours in this outfit?
"I'll go change, of course, I'll go to your place. I don't want anyone else to share our secret!"
Her words were ambiguous, making Zhen Fan smack his lips.
"Alright, see you, Christine!" Zhen Fan stood up, "I'll be waiting at home. Since you know Wine Valley well, you should be able to find 1250, 12th Street."
"See you, dear soon-to-be doctor!"
Christine's mood improved, and her words became playful.
Temecula City, Wine Valley, 1250, 12th Street.
"Zhen, are you still in the shower? When are we going to search?"
Sarah had already changed her clothes, finished the breakfast Zhen Fan prepared for her, and felt a bit full when Zhen Fan returned, having gone for a run and hiding in the bathroom to shower.
"I'm just a consultant. If you want me to do this, you'd better raise my salary or hire me into your special investigation bureau!"
Zhen Fan shouted from the bathroom.
Sarah gritted her teeth, but on second thought, there was no need for Zhen Fan to get involved. If she couldn't handle these things, she would be a fraud.
Just as she was speaking, Zhen Fan finished his shower and came out.
"Wow, that's the most perfect body I've ever seen!"
Sarah exaggerated, making Zhen Fan laugh.
"If you want, the perfect body is yours!" Zhen Fan said, deliberately leaning in with his bare upper body, scaring Sarah into stepping back, almost sitting on the sofa!
"You damned pervert, don't touch me, or I'll shoot you!" Sarah hurriedly turned and walked to the door.
"I'll let you know when I have news!"
"See you, Sarah!"
Zhen Fan laughed mischievously.
Sarah almost fled, opening the door and hearing the sound of a car engine turning off. A silver sports car stopped in front of the house, right behind her car.
"Damn!" Sarah cursed, the sports car contrasting sharply with her car, "Damn rich people!" She then wondered, who could be such a big shot to know this guy? She hesitated for a moment.
"Hi, is this 1250, 12th Street?"
A beautiful woman got out of the sports car, wearing sunglasses. When she faced Sarah, she took off her sunglasses, her tired face showing a smile.
"Yes, yes, this is the place. Who are you?"
Sarah's tone was clearly questioning. Seeing Christine frown, she realized her words were inappropriate.
"I mean, are you here to see someone? Zhen Fan?"
"Yes, I'm here to see him! Is he home? Your boyfriend?"
Christine was undeniably charismatic, her smile making Sarah feel very close.
"No, not my boyfriend, I work for the California Special Investigation Bureau!"
"Hello, Christine!"
Christine extended her hand, shaking Sarah's.
"Sarah!" Sarah quickly introduced herself.
"Zhen and I have an appointment, I'll go in first, see you!"
Christine said, walking onto the lawn.
"Christine?"
Sarah turned to look at the back view, recalling the face, she was startled and cursed, "Damn, Christine, the Hollywood actress? When did Zhen meet such a woman?"
Thinking about it, she didn't want to turn back, so she reluctantly got into her car, started the engine, and sped off.
"Zhen, it's me, Christine. Can I come in?"
Christine knocked on the door, raising her voice.
